Holiday Movie Time

What movie are you looking forward to seeing?

cheerfulgreek 12-09-2008 09:41 AM

I forgot the name of it, but the new one Tom Cruise is in. The one about the plot to assassinate Hitler.

SWTXBelle 12-09-2008 09:43 AM

Valkyrie, right? Hmmm . . .I just loathe Tom Cruise, though. (I am looking for suggestions for an upcoming outing with friends.)

Fawn Liebowitz 12-09-2008 10:32 AM

On my "want to see" list:

Out now: "Changeling" (Angelina Jolie) and "The Boy in The Striped Pajamas"

Coming Soon: "Gran Torino" (Clint Eastwood), "Doubt" (Meryl Streep), "Seven Pounds" (Will Smith), "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button" (Brad Pitt), and "The Reader" (Kate Winslet).

agzg 12-09-2008 11:29 AM

I want to see The Changeling, Seven Pounds, and the Curious Case of Benjamin Button.

ETA: My dad and I went to see Australia on Black Friday (it's kindof our tradition that we start Christmas planning, then go to see a movie). It was pretty good BUT my butt was asleep because it was almost 3 hours long.

summer_gphib 12-09-2008 11:43 AM

I can't wait to see Marley and Me. :p

Valkrie and Harry Potter.......yeah.......heh.

I'll let you all know how that works out...

Oh yeah, The Spirit.

Kappamd 12-09-2008 12:40 PM

Four Christmases-I LOOOOOVE Reese Witherspoon
Marley and Me

PANTHERTEKE 12-09-2008 12:44 PM

I thought this thread dealt with Holiday-themed movies.. Well anyway, Four Christmases was a funny flick, even if the end was predictable.

This Holiday Season, I plan on watching...
Milk, Australia, Doubt, Wendy and Lucy, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Cadillac Records, Tale of Despereaux, Seven Pounds, Spirit, Valkyrie, Revolutionary Road, Frost/Nixon, Synecdoche, NY, Rachel Getting Married

That should give me a jump on the Award Season...

Daemon, The Half Blood Prince does not come out until July

Being the history teacher I am, I want to see Valkyrie!!!! Even though I also loathe Tom Cruise....

I also want to see Australia, but have not had a chance.....The rest of the movies do nothing for me except...

The Day the Earth Stood Still!!!

Right, Valkyrie. And I absolutely loathe Tom Cruise, too - in my book, he has no right to play Claus Von Stauffenberg.

I read a very interesting book "Berlin Diaries 1940-45" several years ago, and was working on a screenplay for it when I discovered that someone already had in 2001. The actress playing the lead (Marie Vassiltchikov) was none other than Nicole Kidman! Think Tom Cruise got the idea from there? I wish the studio would release Berlin Diaries 1940-45, even though I do feel scooped. The book is considered the only real written eyewitness account to Berlin during WWII.

I'd also like to see: Cadillac Records, Tale of Despereaux, Revolutionary Road, Frost/Nixon, and Four Christmases.

LucyKKG 12-10-2008 01:25 AM

Yeah, did you mean holiday like Christmas movies? We always watch It's a Wonderful Life, Christmas Vacation, and Christmas Story.

PeppyGPhiB 12-10-2008 04:12 PM

At the last place I worked, we had a white board in the bathroom where people would write The Question of the Day. And one time around the holiday season someone asked, "What's your favorite untraditional or non-holiday holiday movie?" My response: Die Hard!

SWTXBelle 12-10-2008 04:17 PM

Sorry for the unclear title

I guess I should have specified I was interested in movies which are being released during this, the holiday season. But now I'm glad I didn't - it's two, two, two threads in one!

"Four Christmases" fits into both categories. I like "It's a Wonderful Life" and "A Christmas Story" as far as holiday theme movies go.

I want to see Australia, The Changling, The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons, The Day the Earth Stood Still and some others.

One I really want to see but can't remember the name of stars Anne Hathaway and she was just nominated for the Critics Choice Award for her portrayal. Anyone know the name? Something about a wedding.

Bride Wars. I want to see it too.

I also want to see Doubt. I think this is the first year that I've pretty much wanted to see all (or most of) the non-holiday holiday movies.

No, it's Rachel Getting Married. Bride Wars hasn't been released yet, much less garnered any nominations.

agzg 12-10-2008 05:09 PM

Anne Hathaway's in that one, too, though, right? And Kate Hudson?

Yes, she is.

srmom 12-10-2008 06:17 PM

Yes, thanks that's it - Rachel Getting Married. It looks pretty intense - definitely not one my husband will want to see.

gee_ess 12-10-2008 08:00 PM

I want to see Doubt. It looks good and I like the actors in it.

But who am I kidding? I may end up at a movie, but chances are good that I will end up seeing all of these on DVD at a later date!

txdiva 12-10-2008 09:08 PM

Seven Pounds and The Day the Earth Stood Still

piphiangel314 12-10-2008 09:56 PM

I really want to see The Boy In the Striped Pajamas. I'm also excited to see Doubt and The Reader.

honeychile 12-11-2008 01:11 PM

The boy wants to see Bride Wars, but since it may be *horrors* a chick flick, I'm going with him. Must save that Man Card!

wolffootball37 12-11-2008 02:28 PM

Zack and Miri is hilarious - but is it still out in theaters?

Live-in said one of his friends saw Frost v. Nixon and the friend said it sucked. I still wanna see it, though - sometimes the worst movies make the best ones, in my opinion!

SWTXBelle 12-11-2008 03:16 PM

I've had a thing for Frank Langella every since I saw him in "Dracula" at the Martin Beck Theatre in 1978! (It also turned me on to Edward Gorey)
