Surfer kid rushing at OLE MISS
So Im from Florida. Surf every other day. and every weekend. Never worn a polo in my life. its always board shorts and surfer shirts. I have nice surfer sweaters and such. but i need polos right. and surfers in florida we dont drink. and i have to drink to rush at ole miss right?
|
Duuude, you don't want your rush to be a bummmerrrrr duuuuude!
You don't have to drink to rush anywhere. If that is the view you have of Greek life, don't rush. Please work on your spelling, punctuation and capitalization. Board shorts and surfer shirts are not acceptable for rush at a conservative school, or any school for that matter - you are an adult now. Look at the websites for the chapters to get an idea of what you should be wearing. |
Are there big enough waves to surf in Florida?
I don't know, I've never been surfing...just wondering. |
Well I'm not sure how they do it down South, but over here we don't force anyone to drink for any reason, and people can dress however they want for non-formal functions. Many guys in my fraternity don't own a single polo, but they all have a nice suit and a few collared dress shirts for formal occasions/meetings.

ETA: If your hair is long (I'm in Oklahoma, I don't know what surfers look like), cut it. |
Considering that about 30% of undergrads are from out-of-state I doubt you'll be the only "surfer kid." Ole Miss is a party school so just keep that in mind but don't let that scare you away.
|
He got all y'all.
No way in hell this kid is real. If you do nothing but surf and it is your life, why the hell would you go to a school in north Mississippi? It's hard to go to school in the southeast and find a school farther from surfable water than Ole Miss. Also, the allure at Ole Miss is the tradition and conservative party atmosphere, no reason a surfer kid would go there over somewhere like, say, any of the Florida schools where the surf/skate crowd actually exists. Not to mention the name DudeOfFLA. And everyone I know from Florida who surfs drinks. Quite a bit. |

Yeah, the OP has to be a joke, but one of the best ones in a while. |
I believed him because I had a buddy when I went to Boston University who was a complete surfer guy from Corpus Cristie, TX who didn't drink at all either and wanted to go greek. While there is some surfing possible in Boston and the area, it's about the polar opposite of surfing in Texas.
|
Wait, you can surf in Texas?
by the way, if anyone was wondering about Awesome Dudes (Alpha Delta) http://www.adfraternity.com/about.php |
Haha I like that awesome dudes can include girls... Yes you can surf in many places in Texas along the Gulf, pretty decent surfing I've heard, though I've never been.

yea i am not fake. Over the summer stuff happened to me and I need to get away from it. With the fact I love college football and i want to be a journalist the best place for that is in the SEC. Ole Miss is the only SEC school that has let me in despite what happened

Do you have any idea how much different it'll be? |
if the kid was for real and he wanted to leave fla but stay in the south he would go to uncw. or if he wanted to stay in fla he would go to flagler. or UMiami (although it is quite inconsistent)
In the NE, surfing is very much a part of the preppy coastal living scene. While I acknowledge that there is a difference between NE preppy and SEC fratty, the two do have their similarities, so it might be possible that a kid who surfs could mesh well? provided hes not a total surf rat of course. |

You live in Orlando, the only city in Florida without beaches, and you're an avid surfer.. UM is too hard to get into but you got into an SEC school.. You're like a "white johnny tsunami."
lol, shenanigans. |
na dude. parents were based in Hawaii for navy had me. moved to Orlando when mom died. dad got job with lockeed martin. and the beach is only 30 away. but Ron Jon surf shop has a giant wave pool that produce 7-10 footers. and so does Disney's typhoon lagoon and i go there often. and my school district made high school times at 9:30 now so its easier to surf in the morning. why wont anyone answer my questions. at ole miss and i wana pledge/rush i have to drink right?

FWIW - Typhoon Lagoon surfing is out of commission. Back to your regularly scheduled thread.

ETA: Also, you're driving pretty damn fast to get to a surfable beach from Orlando in 30 minutes. Any beach is close to an hour away (more in morning traffic) and they really aren't surfable at all until you get to damn near St. Augustine (much farther than 30 minutes). |

They haven't finished (not sure they've started, haven't been there in a few months) the pool at Festival Bay. And no, Typhoon Lagoon only let people surf before the park opened for the day. They wouldn't open the park early for you three times a month for $20. But sure, rush at Ole Miss if you really want to insist on your story.

OCPS = Orange County Public Schools. Lake Mary is in Seminole County. Come again soon. |
to back this up. cracker barrel he stated he is in a magnet school at ocps. also surfers from florida dont drink. well real ones. im from there but i dont surf. but typhoon lagoon does not allow surf anymore. and cape surf is in cocoa beach and that is at least an hour from orlando so that another 30 from lake mary. so 30 minutes away is NSB. Cape Surf is at Cocoa not nsb.

New Smyrna is about 50 minutes away from Lake Mary on the backroads. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?1c=Lake...na+Beach&2s=FL Cocoa Beach is almost an hour and a half. Daytona is about the closest at 45 minutes, next time you want to lie. Also, how exactly do you state, emphatically, that surfers in Florida don't drink. Is surfing now a religion that doesn't believe in alcohol? I'll give you a hint, I grew up in Florida (not that part, near Jax, but still). I know surfers. The ones I know drink. I really don't get the point of this lie. |
oh and surfers do not call waves 7-10 footers. waves are measured in relation to the body (chest high, head high, overhead, etc), mainly because there is no uniform way of measuring a wave in feet (from the back? the face? trough to lip?)
ALSO, the wave pool produced shit with hardly any push. kid is a flame |

This is silly!
Just to weigh in, my oldest son is an avid surfer in Florida, transplanted from Texas - but spends just about every spare moment at St. Augustine. He has been extremely involved in the University of Florida Surf Club/Team - which is pretty much a drinking club, and YES, true surfers in Florida drink. Look up some of the Homecoming floats the Surf Club has done; they are always double deck like a pirate ship because the lower deck is a bar! They (or the vast majority) all drink like fish! What they DON'T do is pledge fraternities. ;) My oldest's comment when we asked if he was going to rush was, "Why would I want to be someone else's bi*ch?" Sums the surfer attitude up... |
Ole miss is pretty rough dudeofffla.
|
FWIW...
You can even surf on Lake Erie when the conditions are right. I see it all of the time. http://www.wagnersurfclub.com/ |
