Thanks to all the people who sent me private messages with words of encouragement and advice. Also thanks to all the rude posters who chastised me for my "insensitive remarks". If I knew how to delete this post I would. God Bless.

Bottomline...I no longer want to join sorority #1. I was abused as a child and I refuse to take an unnecessary beat down. I am now interested in sorority #2. I feel like going to the meeting for #1 was a mistake and I was only pleasing my family. Sorority #2 satisfies my needs and plus they don't haze.

Is it possible to join sorority #2 without causing problems. Im certain that they won't have a problem but I know sorority #1 and my supervisor would be disappointed at the least. Help! Should I just wait until I graduate to join the grad chapter or do you have any HELPFUL suggestion??

Please don't preach to me, saying "you should have done your research"...just help me clear up this mistake. If 22 AKAs changed their mind, Im sure I can too. Thanks :)

This is about the difference between NPHC sororities and NPC sororities.

Replace the practice of "pledging" with "membership intake process" and research how this differs from the NPC recruitment and rush practices.

Good luck.

Why did she list the NPHC sororities at the end, like we don't know?

Senusret I 12-01-2008 04:12 PM

I didn't. I appreciate the original poster for enlightening me.

I was ready to offer my .08 until you got to this. You could've kept that.

I was on the slow bus when I read this quote. But this is a really low blow for a sorority that you are possibly interested in.

I know the difference between rushing and pledging but its the way that she said it right along with her attitude.

1. Is there such a thing as a necessary beat down?
2. Who informed you that you would be receiving a "beat down" at any time?
3. When did the terms "pledge" and "haze" become interchangeable?

5. Why does it matter that your supervisor would be disappointed?
6. Why would you defer seeking membership based on others?

Chile Remedyignae-

Your poor character and indiscretion makes you less of a candidate for anyone's sorority. Why would anyone want to vote for you now? You just broadcasting internal business of your campus' NPHC chapters on public messageboard. You have worse problems than being extended an invitation to join anything.

I would be more than happy to request your IP address by the GC Site Owner, ID your location and inform all the D4 sororities on your campus of your behavior here... But, I figure that if you were given enough rope you would...

Okay, whatever, good luck with that! :D

1&2. Excuse me for my poor storytelling skills but its known on campus that sorority #1 hazes. At the time I didn't know about this because I am a transfer student.

3.Also I know the difference between hazing and pledging but its the way that the president said it and the attitude that she had.

4. I am asking for others opinions to see if anyone can relate to this same situation. I would like someone elses perspective. It could have happen to someone on here or maybe someone has an opinion on if a potential pledgee went through the same.

5. Don't you think that if someone has their heart set on you joining their organization that there would be conflict if you didn't? We work together on a daily basis and I don't think she is going to take it lightly that I've changed my mind.

6. Self-explanatory. I don't want there to be any drama involving me on-campus. I'm afraid that sorority #1 may not look at me the same, may try and slander me, & etc.

You are one of the rudest people that I've encountered in a long time. You don't know anything about me and you come at me like you do. Like I said earlier if I offended anyone with my comments, I apolpgize. My indiscretion is at stake but what do you expect on a greek chat website? I did not tell you what organizations I'm refering to, my name, or my university. If the organization is doing something that isn't right then thats not my problem. Futhermore, God Bless you and I pray that you will be more helpful to others in the future.

As a mature educated person, one must gather information to make informed decisions but one must also be prepared to suffer the consequences in addition to reaping the rewards of those decisions. Good Luck!

If the chapter is truly hazing, then the advisors of that chapter should take action and stop it. So, I really would not worry about that.

I think you've come here looking for answers that no one can tell you.

Going greek is a personal decision, we (the general public) can not help you.

If it feels right to join one group over another for what ever your reasons are, then go by that. In the end this is a life long decision and no one could or should tell you what to do.

It's hard to convey attitude and "the way someone said something" over the internet. In order for us to understand and properly interpret what she meant, we will require video footage.

Wow, I assume your org of interest is not AKA. In fact the only D4 of which I have heard members state publicy that they pledge is Z Phi B.

Oh and there is this thing called an IP address that indicates where a computer is. Someone who can access IPs CAN find out your location, so yeah you messed up.

Yep. Unless John's changed the software, the moderators of the individual forum (excluding the super mods) should be able to see IP addresses. I often frequent www.ip-adress.com to see who's reading my MySpace and my blog. (Yes, it's misspelled on purpose)

How does that work? Sorry for being so ignorant, but if it just tells you your own. . . ETA: Duh, nevermind, I see the additional place to click now for the next page. Where do you pick up the IPs of folks visiting your site?

And honestly, I know this downplays striking fear into the hearts of people who posts stuff they don't want tied back to them, but don't most of us have temporary IP addresses these days?
