iPhone

Been loving my new iPhone. So many different apps to choose from! Anyone ever tried the Ziibii app? Here's a video on it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PZXDbMTHQ1Y. Anyone else have other iPhone apps they recommend?

I adore my iphone too
here are the apps I like:
myspace
facebook
pandora (for music radio)

I love Pandora with a passion. There's also an app I have (forget the name) that tells you the movie times in theaters near you.

Thinking about getting an iPhone, but I am leery about AT&T's service. What do you all think about your service with AT&T? Does anyone have the nationwide service? Do you experience a lot of dropped calls? How much are your monthly phone bills? Have you had any technical problems with the iPhone itself? What do you think of the FM radio function? What are your favorite apps? My alternative choice is to join Verizon and get the Blackberry Storm.

Any commentary would be greatly appreciated

There is an issue when you are on the edge of the 3G network I guess. I am where I live, so I've had a lot of dropped calls and have had to turn the 3G off. I guess they are in the process of fixing this I have heard. Besides that they are great.

My area of CT gets better Verizon coverage, and I've heard a lot from people complain about poor coverage and dropped calls with their IPhone. It's one of the main reasons I may not end up getting one; I had to deal with bad coverage when I had Sprint in college, and I don't want to deal with that again.

jessica.lanelle 11-26-2008 03:36 PM

ATT gets way better coverage here than any other provider. I want an iPhone but I have heard some bad things about them. I will just stick with my Blackjack for now.

Munchkin03 11-26-2008 04:05 PM

I have AT&T, and I've never had a problem with dropped calls in the past 5 or so years. It probably depends on where you are, and how good your coverage is in general. I think that when I'm eligible for an upgrade in June, I'm going to get an iPhone.

It definitely depends; I know people who have the NYC area and in upstate NY and have no trouble at all. If I get to go back to Boston it won't be until at least 2010 anyway, when my cell phone contract will expire again; I'd just don't want to deal with dropped calls in CT for the next couple of years. The more I think about it I may just upgrade to a Blackberry and stick with Verizon.

OK so here's a question:

For those of us that have iPhones or iPod touches, what are your favorite apps?

I've got an iPod touch, and I love love love Wordle, Tetris, and Collapse. I just got Tap Tap Revenge and I have to say I really like that one, too!

Haven't put any apps on yet...got any other recommendations?

Do you use Twitter? I like twitteriffic as far as an application for that - I'm pretty sure it's what kept me from being hit by that Phishing scam because you have to do changes to your friends from the web, and I'm horrible at adding people after they've added me.

ETA: I also like the recipe spinner. We've tried a couple so far and they're pretty good.

I only have a touch, too. I only use twitteriffic from home or when I'm at someone's house (live-in's mom or dad's) where I have a password to the WiFi.

ETA: And when I'm reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally bored.

I.A.S.K. 01-09-2009 04:50 PM

I just got my Touch and I love the Peanut Butter Jelly time app. LOL!
The ibowl and card shark apps are my favs also.
Is it just me or does the batter seem to not last very long. My batter is always dying in a couple of hours.

It's not just you - I think the battery is good for quite a while when you're just playing music but as far as playing games, surfing the internet (do people still use that phrase?), or watching movies it dies a little faster.

Doesn't make me love it any less, though.

jessica.lanelle 01-09-2009 05:24 PM

I went ahead and replaced my Blackjack with one a few weeks ago. Some of my favorite apps are the Ambiance one (plays all kinds of sounds so I can sleep or study)and the poker app.

Have a few questions. . .

I've been wanting an iPhone for quite a while now, and will soon be getting a phone allowance of at least $40/mo. from work (yay!). I will be eligible for the upgrade at the end of March. I picked up a pamphlet a couple of days ago on AT&T plans for iPhone 3G and just happened to read some of the fine print and here's what I need for you all to help me with.

It says "the $30 data plan does not allow access to corporate email, company intranet sites and other business applications." Are there other data plans? I thought there was just one data plan, therefor one fee. Do any of you use your iPhone to access work email? I was also told that I will have to up my minutes - I currently share 450 minutes with my daughter.

Thanks for your help!

I am a big fan of the Pandora app, Urban Spoon and Shazam App

Shazam is AMAZING... you just turn it on during a song on the radio and it will identify the song, band and album... pretty sweet, esp. since I listen to the all music station that doesn't say which songs it is playing...
The Urban spoon picks restaurants for you in the area based on Genre, Price, and Specific Neighborhood.

jessica.lanelle 01-11-2009 07:19 PM

Yeah, I love Urban Spoon. It gives great ideas for restaurants.

The Shazam app can't be used with the iPod touch (Because there's no microphone) but any people I know that have an iPhone looooooooooove it!

Silicon Alley Insider cites a "plugged-in industry executive" in reporting that the popular web video site Hulu is developing an application for Apple's iPhone. It wouldn't be the first of it's kind, as TV.com, i.TV and Joost are all on the market as it is, but because it's Hulu, the rumor is getting considerable attention.

Hulu providing an iPhone application is obviously a good idea - that is if AT&T doesn't object to it and force Apple's hand to ban it from the iPhone store. Such a service would obviously be heavy on traffic if not only used when Wi-Fi is available for it. The data problems also would create demand for an ability to save and watch videos later.
