I'm assuming you're having a girl.

I'm really big on staying away from the traditional "Pepto pink" girl's room.

The deeper purple one in your first post is probably my fave.

Senusret I 11-23-2008 09:46 PM

^^^ Mine too!

WinniBug 11-23-2008 09:48 PM

Haha, yeah - we found out about 2 weeks ago that Annalisse Rose can be expected to arrive on April 9.
:-)

And for some reason, I'm feeling really pink and girly. The dark purple one is called "Mulberry".

alum 11-23-2008 10:03 PM

I like bright pink and green for a girl's room. I find it quite cheerful.

SWTXBelle 11-23-2008 10:11 PM

The pink and brown one, of course!

aephi alum 11-23-2008 10:19 PM

AHHH!!! MY EYES!!! TOO MUCH PINK!!!!!!!

If you really want to go with one of the ideas you posted, my vote is:
http://i38.photobucket.com/albums/e1...ts01/julia.jpg

Most of the others look like you painted the room with Pepto.

Nanners52674 11-23-2008 10:28 PM

I like all the bedding in them but i think in a lot of them there is way to much going on with the walls. . . I prefer a more soft muted room for a baby. . . My nieces room is white walls with a green border and really pretty floral rug that is the center piece. If i had to choose the fifth one in the second post thats mostly white with pink green yellow bedding!

Congrats on the girl!!!!

ComradesTrue 11-23-2008 10:42 PM

As someone with a 1 month old girl, trust me when I tell you there will be plenty of pink *everything* to go around. I like pink, but have had to work very hard to keep her wardrobe to no more than 50% of outfits being pink. That is much harder than it sounds! Plus, every gift that you get will be pink. We own 5 pink nice blankets, and that doesn't count the additional 8 or so blankets that come in the packs. We have been given countless pink outfits, upteen pink stuffed animals, pink pictures frames, pink hats, washcloths, towels, etc. We didn't buy any of that... it was all gifts!

(side note on gifts to the gift-givers... consider buying baby something in sizes other than 0-3 months. We have received so many dresses in that size that there is literally no possible way she will ever wear them all. I lost count when we were in the 20s, yet they continue to come. We recently received an adorable outfit in 3-6 months and I was thrilled as we didn't have anything in that size yet. Just an idea for people.)

All that to say, Winnie, choose pink as an accent color for the room, but consider another one as the primary. Our daughters room has taupe walls, and the bedding is a nice combo of taupe, light/soft/muted pink, and white. There is also a splash of light green to mix it up. I find her room very soothing and not overwhlemingly pink. Yet, there is enough pink to know it is a girls room.

Again, I love pink too, but believe me... it really gets overwhelming when all the stuff starts pouring in.

I vote for this one too!

I like the first one in the second post because it's kinda retro, and not so, well, babyfied. I would bag the shadow box things on the wall though.

Re the baby dresses in small sizes: my mom received some that I was never small enough to fit into. She saved them and I ended up putting them on one of my dolls. :) Of course I thought that was super neat that she had "real" baby clothes.

Tippiechick 11-23-2008 11:44 PM

Congrats!

I like the second from the top on the RIGHT. Not really pink, but very girly and easy to match with other things (lots of colors in the scheme).

honeychile 11-24-2008 12:06 AM

If you're planning to have more than one child, it might be nice to stick to white or another soft pastel colored walls (someone mentioned taupe; grey would be nice, too), and choose the "soft" decor that can easily change to blue, too. It's easier to change blankets & hangings than furniture. If you're really sold on the photos, I like the third one down, first post (also the second one down on the left, first post).

Blondie93 makes a great point about baby clothing! As much as I coo over those "itty bitty" clothes, I always buy something in the 18-24 months size. One that goes over particularly well for girls is a denim jumper, with long- and short-sleeved tops. And always, a gift card for diapers!!

Ditto on that. When DH was born, he was a big baby and went straight into 6mo clothes - MIL had to return or exchange all the newborn clothes she got. Also, people don't always keep in mind that seasons change, and that a baby born in early summer isn't going to get a lot of mileage out of a newborn-sized winter snowsuit.

When my best friends have babies, I often knit baby blankets for them. Baby blankets don't have sizes. ;) Blankets can be reused for subsequent babies, used in doll beds, incorporated into larger blankets, or handed down to the next generation.

amanda6035 11-24-2008 12:45 AM

I like the "mulberry" one, and the mostly green with a touch of pink one....

But....I absolutely DESPISE pink. When (hopefully, when, not if) I have a little girl, I'll be going with purple and "girly looking" blue. But I'm not having kids for at least 2 1/2 more years, if I have my way. Gotta get this grad school thing out of the way first.

RaggedyAnn 11-24-2008 07:54 AM

I personally like a ladybug theme, but Raggedy Ann would be a nice choice too. :D

On a more serious note, what are the other colors in your house.

WinniBug 11-24-2008 08:43 AM

There are actually 2 ladybug themes in there. :-)

We like the idea of dark wood for the nursery furniture, and I wouldn't overload the room with decorations.

The walls in our house are a light almost-neutral blue, the molding is white, and we don't plan on re-painting.
Just about like this, but a smidge bluer.

I like the mushrooms and snails. Very Alice in Wonderland.

summer_gphib 11-24-2008 03:25 PM

I really like the pink and brown with the geometric patterns. Very cool!

Xidelt 11-24-2008 03:42 PM

I like the last pic in the first post---the ladybugs! Cute, but not overly pinky and too girly. I don't really like the current trend of nursery themes that look like modern/floral adult patterns. A nursery should look like a child's room!

This is my son's birthday!

I'm very partial to the rooms with pink and brown. I LOVE that color combination. Are all these options available? After I chose my theme, I couldn't find it anywhere. Congratulations!

ForeverRoses 11-24-2008 04:02 PM

I like the pink and green one. Although the quilts are cute, unless you are going to use them as a wall hanging, you don't really need them- you aren't even supposed to use them. I ended up throwing mine over the back of the rocking chair.

true_blue 11-24-2008 04:03 PM

I like the one in the second post , top, left side of the page! :)

Exactly. Winni, as long as the room is comfy for those who will undoubtedly be spending lots of time in there, that's all that matters. We didn't start using our cute quilts until well after our kids could stand up in their cribs. At that point, we had already taken down all the cute little fabric wall-hangings because the kids kept pulling them off the walls.

Seriously, I wish someone had told me to save the money for diapers instead of wasting it on all the stuff that made the nursery cute. When the babies came, the nursery became cute enough.

ZTAMich 11-24-2008 05:23 PM

For some reason I get the catalogue for Bratt Decor. Their baby furniture is sooo beautiful and sooo expensive! Lots of celebs buy from there I think.

Xidelt 11-24-2008 05:42 PM

Lamb and Ivy makes beautiful nursery coordinates. They're my current faves!

second post, first pic! pink and chocolate are so cute together!

also, if you are gonna invest in a nursery that nice, make sure the baby actually spends time in it lol! my cousin paid about 4k on hers and the baby stayed in the room with her most of the time...my daughters got good use out of theirs..

Whoa! That's pricey!
None of the sets I've actually considered run more than $200 for the basic bedding set.

I don't know - it kinda looks like it...but those wall hangings aren't actually a part of the set, nor are they in the "suggested coordinates" :(

And the other is one of the pink and brown sets

I just found out that my daughter's having a girl! She's due about 2 weeks after you, Winnibug. I love these nurseries! Could you tell us what catalogs they're from?

Congrats, C! Which daughter was it again? The elder AOII?

carnation 11-24-2008 09:41 PM

Yes, the baby will be an AOII/Pi Phi legacy! :)

Winnibug, your taste is exquisite and I'm emailing a link to this thread to my daughter! FSUZeta, I'm off to the Pottery Barn site too!

I love that one as well!! I also like the one next to it (the polka dot one) and the Ladybug one below it.

Beautiful colors, it's girly without the blaring/blinding pink.

Although I preference more primary colors for nurseries (red ladybugs), I have to say this is very attractive. The quilt could be used as a throw at the bottom of a twin too. I could see these accessories working for a few additional years. I am super practical though.
