My Rush at Washington
Hey everyone...well, I'm in the midst of all the rush craziness..today was day 2 of Tour Events where we went and saw all 16 houses. 9 yesterday, and 7 today. There are over 700 girls going through recruitment..which is apparently a very large number for Washington! I'm really excited though..it's been a lot of fun and i've already met so many great people. The NPC sororities on campus:

a few details...
Alright so I see that you guys want some details, huh? :) The first two days are pretty jumbled up in my head..but i'll try and relate some of what I was thinking..
Saturday night was orientation and they had to hold two sessions because there were so many girls! They put us into our section groups, and one of our 3 Rho Chis is a girl from my High School. There are 40 girls in my section group, and actually one of my good friends from high school is in it as well! There are 16 section groups total. We started out early Sunday at the first house..and yeah, I might just say that the door chants caught me a little off guard! They were so fun..and I think that might just be my favorite part of Tour Events! We went to 9 houses for a half hour each on day 1, and by the end of the day they were all really mixed up in my head! The ones that stood out a lot to me though were Tri-Delts...they had done a really cute skit and I felt like I really connected with each of the girls that I talked to. I also liked the Zeta house..which, to tell you the truth, surprised me because i'd never heard much about them from my friends presently in the Greeek system. But the girls were a lot of fun, and I enjoyed my time there so far. All of the houses on the first day were really fun and the girls seemed to be outgoing..but there weren't a lot that I felt a strong connection to. Day two, Monday, we saw the other 7 sororities. There were quite a few more that stood out to me than the first day, or that I felt more of a connection with. I liked the Gamma Phi house a lot, I think probably because their skit was a lot of fun and you could see the personality of the house from it. Thetas were after them..and once again I felt a great connection with the girls I talked to. Then at the Pi Phi house, there was another sense that it may be a place I might fit in, but it's always hard to tell in the initial first half hour. We finished the day at Alpha Chi Omega, and it was hard for me to really read the personality of the house, but I again connected with the girls I spoke with. It seemed to be more of a joking, fun environment that appealed to me. Today was to be a day off in observance of Rosh Hashana, but because of last week's WTC tragedies the sororities are holding about 4 parties for those girls who couldn't get back on time (my Rho Chi's said around 150 girls!) Wednesday morning i'll see who out of the 16 invited me back, and will be able to go back to up to 10 on wednesday afternoon and thursday morning. Sorry I couldn't be more explicit with the details, but all of the houses were just great and after seeing 16 of them it's almost difficult to distinguish differences between them. Time to go pack for the rest of the week...Bye for now! |
Awesome!
My gosh! I imagine it would be tough to keep sixteen houses straight in your mind. Thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to hearing more.
Good luck! :) Jen |
Good Luck!
Good luck with Rush! I know that all those houses can be pretty confusing during the first few days, but you'll be able to get them straight soon enough! :)

I am tired just reading this post, rushing 16 houses must be exhausting, thank goodness there was only 11 at Texas A&M when I went through. Good Luck, keep us informed.

Hey everyone!! Oh my goodness I think I have been more busy this last week than ever before in my life!! I don't remember where I left off so i'll just give a brief summary of rush week...
After tour events when we saw all 16, we went wednesday morning and got our invitations back, and could only go to up to 10. I got invited back to 13...and so had to drop 3 (tough decision!!) but ended up dropping Sigma Kappa, Alpha Xi Delta, and Alpha Delta Pi. With so many girls going through rush, the cuts all week were really harsh..there were 2 girls in my section group who got no invitations back from any of the 16,and others with only a few. So Wednesday and Thursday had me going on house tours of the 10 ("first period events"), which was really exciting! I had never seen the insides of these houses...and it turns out they were all beautiful mansions. I started sort of favoring some houses more than others..those being Gamma Phi Beta, Delta Gamma, and Alpha Phi. We got our invitations back from the 10 houses we went to, and had to choose only 6 to go back to for Friday's skit day ("second period events). I got invited back to all of the houses that I really liked, and had a tough time deciding who to drop for Friday. I can't even really remember...but I went back to Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, Delta Gamma, Alpha Phi, Alpha Gamma Delta, and uhm...I actually don't remember the last!! I know that I dropped Chi Omega which was tough because I really liked them...and had to drop Sigma K's and AZD's again because they invited me back after regretting with interest. Can't remember who else I dropped!! Sorry guys, long week :o) Anyway, Saturday was Preference, and I went to Alpha Gamma Delta, Alpha Phi, and Delta Gamma. Gamma Phi's dropped me :P I was sort of surprised, because I thought I had connected with the gals I talked to, but I guess they know if you're going to fit into their house or not. Delta Gamma was my absolute fave going into pref night...and I was SO excited to have been invited back. They were my first house of the 3 parties, and it was absolutely amazing. OH my gosh was it amazing! There were testimonials while we sat and had cheesecake and chocolate decadence with chocolate dipped strawberries, vases and vases of the Delta Gamma Cream Colored Rose everywhere in beautiful overflowing arrangements, and sparkling cider in champagne flutes. The girls sang to us, and we went into the formal living room and they did a special ceremony with us and said some extremely touching things. I knew it was the place I wanted to be as I walked out, but I thought I should give the other houses a chance before totally getting my heart set on DG in case it didn't work out. AGD was next..and they had a nice plate of snacks for us..cheeses and crackers and fruit, etc. They also sang to us and did a candle lighting ceremony, and it was also beautiful but I didn't get quite the same feeling from the house. APhi was the last party of the night, and I really did like it there and could see myself as a part of the house. They had desserts for us, and it was also beautiful, but not quite the same as at DG for some reason. I think I just knew I wanted to wear that anchor pin! I preffed DGs, then Alpha Phi, and AGD third...and was happy with the notion that any of those places would make a great home for me. We got our bid cards after the Rho Chi revealing at 12, and I didn't even have to open the envelope. I could see through the top.....that golden anchor!!! I was allowed to be a part of DG PC '01, and i'm very happy about it as you can imagine :D We've been extremely busy with bonding and eating and what not..just getting to know each other..there are 38 girls in my Pledge Class...so there are a lot of us!! Anyway, sorry I kept you guys in such suspense, but now you know...i'm a DG girl!!! |
