Nike Releases Nintendo Shoes

Nike released Nintendo sneakers. Live-in tweeted about it yesterday, so when he got home last night, I mocked him mercilessly, calling him a geek and telling him that if he bought these shoes I was going to go to Target and buy him Napoleon Dynamite-style snow boots and hide all his other shoes so that he has to wear them.

I looked it up today. This is a picture:
http://www.kicksonfire.com/wp-conten...nintendo-1.jpg

Thoughts? They look kinda cool from this angle. They look cool from other angles, too. Now, I've spent the better part of my morning trying to find out where I can get them, as the ultimate conciliatory "I'm sorry I picked on you" Christmas gift.

Discuss.

ETA: Here is a blog article about the shoes.

nittanyalum 11-07-2008 02:44 PM

LOL, thanks for the blog link, now I feel REALLY old. I read that little paragraph underneath the image and honest to god didn't understand one word. :p

What makes them "Nintendo" shoes? Is it just the coloring and name?

If you look close toward the top of the shoes, there's a "start button", plus there's the other buttons kinda by the laces on the shoes. Live-in said there was a directional pad. That's what made me think they were going to be really geeky. You can only see the start button in any of the pictures I've seen.

Plus the coloring doesn't hurt ;).

I can't get into NiceKicks to see how much they cost - which is frustrating because I kinda wanna order them RIGHT NOW!

ETA: You didn't know about the unlimited lives?

Seriously, I have no idea what this means.

You're talking to someone whose (first and) last "gaming system" was an Atari. :o

agzg 11-07-2008 02:59 PM

In Mario Bros, I can't remember which one, if you trap a Koopa (one of the bad guys that makes you die) on the stairs, and jump on it, you get extra lives. You can do it forever and have 1,000,000 extra lives (you start with 3). The stairs are at the end of each level, you go up the stairs, run off the top, and jump on a flag. However high you are on the flag pole gets you points.

Live-in said there were Atari Nikes, too. They were black, and the soles were faux wood grain. I asked him if there was a joystick sticking out of one of the toes.

Ummmm... ok. Gotcha. Thanks. Much clearer now. ;):p

LOL.

I was just going to post this:
http://kellits.com/wp-content/upload...-blazer-21.jpg

I'm sad to see there's no joysticks, but I'm glad to see they're high tops.

It's sad to me that generations before mine never knew the glory that was Super Mario Bros. It was the only toy my brother and I could play with without fighting over. Well, except the time my brother punched me in the head so I would mess up and not beat him.

ETA: Super Paper Mario IS NOT AS FUN.

KSUViolet06 11-07-2008 05:45 PM

I seriously LOVED Nintendo. My brother and I had original Nintendo & Super Nintendo.

I was really excited because when we got our Super Nintendo, it came with the Mario's Greatest Hits, the game that included all 4 Mario Brothers games on it. We also got the Super Scope with it. We thought we were so cool.

We break out the Super Nintendo periodically, and our younger (like 12 and below) cousins look at it like it is the lamest thing ever.

Super Mario 3 was my fave. You know, the one where you could play the little matching games for extra lives, wear raccoon suits and fly, and get the coveted WHISTLE that would take you ahead to a new world. The one with Yoshi wasn't too bad either.

It was world 3-3, I think. I loved that game so much! :)

Super Mario 3 was my favorite, too! The raccoon suit was cute, but I really liked it when he would get in the sock and bounce around over the flytraps. I think that was world 4, or 6, but I can't remember for certain.

OMG I never knew that! I have a Wii and I bought the old Super Mario Bros (along with Super Mario Bros 2, Lost Levels, and 3) so i'm definitely going to find this unlimited lives level!! haha.

Senusret I 11-07-2008 07:49 PM

Super Mario 2 was my favorite and I am okay with being the only one lol.

Come on.... picking turnips?

Eww. My brother & I HATED that one, and we never played it unless one of our friends came over and really wanted to.

I can't really put my finger on why no one really liked that one though. It just seemed so, boring or something.

That, and I was the idiot who could never figure out how to pick up the eggs that the giant bird spit at you (which you had to JUMP on top of and pick I think), so I never got past that part.

I want to get them for my boyfriend for Christmas, mostly just as an apology for mocking him so bad last night when he told me about them, and because I know he'd really like them. Estimates for them range from $50-$80, which would be AWESOME because then I could afford another gift for him.

The link to the site to find them has not been working for me ALL DAY.

Super Mario 2 was just completely different from the rest in the series. It was drawn differently and seemed to be in a different world entirely. None of the same villains or anything.

And YES I hated that damn bird!

agzg 11-07-2008 08:22 PM

I got them!

$79.00 at pickyourshoes.com

Yippee!

It was my favorite too.:)

Phrozen1ne 11-07-2008 08:47 PM

I also liked Mario 64, the first Mario game that was made for Nintendo 64. There was something about jumping through paintings....

Really? I hated that game. I haven't liked any of them since the N64 came out. Except for the different MarioKarts. Those are all pretty fun.

KSUViolet06 11-07-2008 08:52 PM

I hated N64. We did get Gamecube at one point, but it ended up being lame also.

Wii is the best thing Nintendo has had going for it in a few years.

Wii is fun but the Mario games kinda suck.

Tetris Party for the Wii, however, is incredibly fun. You can download it on the internet channel.

That was probably my least favorite one, because of the stupid egg blowing bird, as well as the snakes that came out of the vase looking things. It seemed harder that the other Mario games. The premise of the game was pretty cool, though... wasn't it supposed to be Mario's dream, or something?

Buttonz 11-07-2008 10:40 PM

I love my Mario!

I like the New Super Mario Bros that came out for the DS. Only having a DS doesn't give me access to the older games, but I love how you can get them all on the Wii through the Virtual Console.

My friends and I would spend hours when we were younger in from of the SNES playing.

I like Super Mario 2! And I finally passed the whole freaking game like last week! haha.

Although I will say, If i'm thinking of the same creature you & KSUViolet are thinking of, I don't consider it a "bird" but Yoshi....just like a beginning version of him/her.

Which game is it, where when Mario stands on top of a block he can spin & destroy it? I thought it was Super Mario 3, but it isn't. Is it a SNES game?

My memory isn't the greatest, so he may not have been a bird.

The one where Mario can spin and destroy blocks is Super Mario World (or Mario 4) which was a SNES game. It was the first one with Yoshi also.

It could totally be a bird...cause i believe the creature is called "birdo", but I always just thought it was Yoshi the dinosaur

Super Mario Brothers 2 was a western conversion of the Famicon Disk System game Doki Doki Panic. The true sequel to Super Mario Brothers was considered to difficult for the western market so they took a pre-existing (easier) game and re-tooled the characters giving them a Super Mario makeover.

I like them, but Nike makes a lot of shoes that collaborate with a top company.

Super Mario 2 was actually some other video game in Japan, and did not star Mario, etc. The marketing people for Nintendo thought that no one would buy/play their crazy Japanese game so they had Mario have a dream that all this stuff happened (the plot/storyline of Super Mario 2) because more little kids would buy it.

I know this because I have a friend who works at game store when he isn't teaching.

agzg 11-12-2008 02:52 PM

I'm scheduled to get them on Friday! Which is awesome, because live-in is leaving town for a wedding tonight and he won't be back until Sunday, giving me plenty of time to hide the evidence.

Thank goodness for family weddings that I don't have to attend!
