TLC

Anyone going to TLC? I'm VERY excited about the programming and how things are shaping up.

AGDLynn 11-06-2008 08:37 PM

Is it limited to certain officers and/or advisors?

I've been asked to consider being an advisor again (no not CA!). Of course it would be temp if we actually do sell our house!;)

DoctorD 11-07-2008 12:57 AM

not necessarily on the alumnae side, although you may have already done Saturday's programming option, as we tested it prior to Convention. We are offering the Alumnae Values Institute programming to ANY alumna/advisor/VST who would like to attend at a lower rate than the entire conference. We will be giving out certificates to anyone who completes the Saturday program so that if you could possibly get continuing education credits [and/or get some money to attend] from your employer this could count. We will have program information available shortly so that people can present the information to employers for this purpose.

I am evaluating whether the budget can handle it. I would like to attend Atlanta but the responsible thing to do would be to go to Dallas since all my chapters are scheduled to go there. I believe that several are going to ask to attend Atlanta instead though because airfare is so much cheaper to ATL than to DFW. We'll see.

AGDZO Susan 11-07-2008 08:41 PM

I'm saving my money for Convention. :D

AGDLynn 11-07-2008 09:16 PM

I'll give you a discounted price on a bed and bathroom.;)

SassyPantsAGD 11-15-2008 02:14 AM

What are the TLC dates/destinations again?

After a job change and moving...I'm so out of the loop!

AGDLynn 11-15-2008 10:07 AM

_____ Dallas _____ Atlanta
Marriott Dallas/ Ft.Worth Solana Renaissance Concourse Hotel
January 16-18, 2009 February 2-4, 2009

Cost is $275 per person or $150 for Saturday only.

Details are on the Member Services website under Fraternity Events.

The Atlanta hotel is next to the airport. I'll wave to you as I drive by.:D

Gamma Eta

I will be attending as an advisor. Three collegians are representing the chapter. I am really looking forward to TLC! I am hoping the officers attending will get alot out of the experience and get some great ideas for the chapter.

Hi, I just wanted to follow up on this, I've heard this from other CAs, too, that they were going to ask to send their chapters to Atlanta instead of Dallas from MI because flights are cheaper, but I just made the reservations for AB last night and we got all of our flights to Dallas (nonstop) for $325/ea. including all taxes and fees on NWA. I did a quick search of Atlanta flights for comparison, and I think those prices were actually a bit higher. So just fyi...

I got close to the same price to Dallas from Atlanta. I'll see you there :)

Great weekend, again!

Lots of positive response and some fired up Alpha Gams! Leadership Institute did Saturday programming, and today we discussed new Delta and Alpha Experiences :)

AGDLynn 02-01-2009 07:12 PM

I talked to the GTau CA and FA. They had a wonderful time.

The CP said that "Marie was a hoot!";) And she loved meeting Jackie!

GammaIota1009 02-03-2009 02:25 PM

TLC is just what Gamma Eta needed! My girls are full of ideas! Last night we did facebook founders at the new member meeting and they loved it!

DoctorD 02-03-2009 04:56 PM

fabulous! I'm so glad!!!

For those of us that didn't go to TLC... what is Facebook Founders?

One of the suggestions for teaching fraternity history with the new Alpha Experience [NM program that will be launched fraternity wide in the fall]- NMs are divided into founders groups and create a mock hard copy facebook page for a founder using a short bio that talks about her interests, skills, accomplishments, etc.

The attendees did this on Sunday morning as a sample of a program idea for the Alpha Experience. It went really well, and was fun to see the creativity of the women... plus, it seemed that the founders came alive for them with this, too. I know that I was able to retain more information about the founders than I ever have been able to previously.

This program will be online fairly soon, including pictures of the founders that VPMDs/NMCs can download and utilize with their chapters/new members.

I'm just imagining the News feed of our Founders:

Emily Helen Butterfield is...designing crests for other fraternal organizations.

Georgia Otis Chipman has joined the Syracuse network.

Jennie Titus Smith Morris tagged you in an album "When its Candle lighting Time"

Georgia Alberta Dickover sent you an invitation to Ritual May 30th. Accept/Decline?

Estelle Shephard Beswick sent you a gift of red and buff roses!

Marguerite Shepard tagged you in a note "How I love those Alpha Gams!"

I am such a freaking dork...

Much of that is what happened! One of the groups was "We <3 Dr. Coddington" - flair and bumper stickers were sent, photos were tagged, etc.

Wall posts included asking Mary Louise Snider to post pictures of her adopted baby, telling Flora that she rocked it out on the piano last night, asking Grace where the next party is, hoping that Edith gets better [she fell through ice and never returned to college], joking about how they hid from Georgia Otis Chipman [who made tons of to do lists and had sisters constantly on the go], etc.

It was really interesting to see what the women came up with given just a short amount of time and a little bit of founder information.

I'm both happy and scared that I'm on the same wave length as the collegians. Let's just hope it is because I'm with it since I'm taking undergraduate classes this semester so therefore around younger people ;) Though most of these classes are outside my degree field to prepare for graduate school admissions in a different area all together.

I'm imagining A LOT of squirrel flair.

ETA: They should make Triad a triad group and invite APhis and GPhiBs, maybe instead of 'Who's Driving Your Bus?" there could be one with a nod to The Quarterly article with the letters about sleigh riding to install chapters 'Who's Shoeing your Draft Horse?"

agzg 02-06-2009 05:53 PM

AAHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I wanna friend our founders soooooooooooooo bad!!!!!!!

GammaIota1009 02-07-2009 08:41 AM

The new members loved it! They really had a fun time with it and I think actually learned about the founders instead of just learning their names. The "facebook pages" are hanging up in the lounge so hopefully the older sisters will get to see another side of the founders as well!

GtownGirl98 02-08-2009 08:17 PM

So they made them out of paper or on facebook?

chart paper - not an actual facebook page - just a mock one. Pictures of the founders were included with a short bio for each group to complete their page.

AGDLynn 02-08-2009 10:52 PM

Did y'all provide more factual info that we got in our pledge/new member manuals?

DoctorD 02-08-2009 11:00 PM

I think so - it may be the same thing that is in the NM book currently, but the information given to folks was provided by communications. Still just a one paragraph blurb about each founder, but enough to make them come to life.
