Haha ok. Welllllll.........It all begins at home this summer when my friends and I were getting ready to go to college. I am from a lareg metropolitan area, full of schools with pretty big greek populations, where most of my friends are going to. For various reasons (which would probably give away not only where I'm from but the region where I now go to school) I decided to go really far away. My friends kept talking about greek life and how excited they were to join sororites and fraternities, and I got sucked into it. I'd heard that greek life at my school wasn't huge, but it was growing, so I was still excited. So the first night of our recruitment events was a special Q&A section where we met only a couple members of each sorority. My school has five sororites, four NPC and one local. They are:

]Lauren Conrad
Lo
Audrina
Whitney
Stephanie Pratt's Hamster

I'm sorry these pseudonyms suck but I'm not feeling too original at the moment.

Anyway: at the Q&A session, we met our PNM groups and Rho Gammas for the next day (we rotated rho gammas throughout the week). The Rho Gammas led us to each group, which had set up tables. We got to talk to each president and recruitment organizers, and a couple other girls from the sorority. My initial thoughts were:

Lauren Conrad- These girls were very nice, and their table had a cute theme. I loved their shirts too, which had a funny phrase on them. I've heard they are one of the smaller sororites though, which kind of dissapointed me. Overall I didn't really have a negative experience, but it wasn't amazing. Plus, I haven't heard much of this sorority before, even though it's a national. (but I'm not that well-versed)

Lo- I loved Lo the moment I sat down. The president was such a sweet girl, and they all had so much spunk. It was obvious that they LOVED their sorority, and were very knowledgeable about it. I also liked that they seemed pretty involved with their philanthropy. They also were so positive about greek life as a whole, instead of just their sorority. However, a bunch of girls told me this sorority was on probation for something from last year...

Audrina- Much like Lo, Audrina had a lot of spunk. I've heard there's kind of a rivalry between Audrina and Lo, and I could kind of see that from Audrina's repsonses to questions about events (our events are the best! etc.) but it didn't really seem negative, just that the two were competitive. Audrina was also a larger house on campus, though I haven't head of them nationally at all. The girls were really nice and seemed eager to answer questions. I thought I loved Lo, but now I really loved Audrina just as much.

Whitney- While I've actually heard of Whitney, they are a smaller house on campus. Bigger than LC, but definitely smaller than Lo and Audrina. The girls seemed sweet, but I could tell they weren't really me. Still, I'd like to talk to them more.

Stephanie Pratt's Hamster- They seemed very disorganized. Their table wasn't well decorated, and isntead of meeting actives, we only met alums. I've heard rumors that this chapter may be closing. Who knows though.

Since the first day was just discussion, there was no cutting or anything. The next day was Philanthropy day, but I'll wait a little before I get to that....

SWTXBelle 10-10-2008 03:39 PM

I don't like Lauren. Her font colour is too hard to read.

I don't like Stephanie Pratt's Hamster for the same reason! :p That blue hurts my eyes!

ETA: But, please, continue your story

ASTalumna06 10-10-2008 04:46 PM

^^ Definitely. Could you maybe change that to a nicer (darker) blue? :D

BlondieCat 10-11-2008 02:47 PM

I changed some colors around for everyone so here they are finally:

SO....Day 1 was philanthropy day and it started with a twist. I got my list of parties to attend, and Stephanie Pratt's Hamster wasn't on it!!! I looked around and noticed other people were confused as well. Our rho gamma explained that this sorority was having some problems and wasn't supposed to be doing recruitment in the first place. I don't really understand what happened with them still....
Also, before we went anywhere, the rho gamma sat us down and said, "There have been a lot of rumors flying about Lo. Lo is NOT on probation, and never has been. They are an upstanding group of girls, so don't let that enter your thoughts when you meet them!" I was glad to hear that, because I loved Lo. Soooo...I went to my first party.
Lauren Conrad was up first. I was really intimidated when I walked in, because they were chanting before we got there, and it kind of sounded like a scary chant. Once I got in though, I was excited. I noticed that there weren't many girls though. Their decorations were really cute, and their theme was adorable. Every girl I talked to had 2 pnms, ad the other pnm with me was kind of strange. I felt bad, because she didnt talk much and I didn't want to monopolize the conversation. Some of the girls at Lauren seemed really snotty too, but some were really nice. It was hard to know what to think.
Audrina was next. I was so excited to go to Audrina because they had been my favorite after round table. The girls screamed excitedly as we walked in, and they were MUCH bigger than LC. Again, each girl had two PNMS, but this time we got out of order accidently so I had a new PNM with me who I loved. The first girl I talked to was really nice, but I kept trying to ask questions about their philanthropy and she kept talking about this dinner cruise that their sorority sponsors and how its such a cool event. She also told me that if I liked to have fun, I should definitely consider Audrina because they didn't have as strict of rules and partied a lot and my mom would definitely give me a fake ID!!! She also said that the girls at Lo had advisors around all the time and couldn't party much! I like to go to parties as much as anyone, but I thought it was a little trashy to talk about that right away! Especially about another sorority. But I guess the rumors about Lo and Audrinas rivalry were true? The next girl I talked to was very sweet though, told me all about their philanthropy, and what a great sisterhood Audrina had. The next couple girls were very nice as well, but I didn't really bond with anyone.
Next was Lo. I was worried because I'd loved Audrina so much before, and I'd gotten such an awkward response from them. I was so wrong to be worried though! Lo was by far the spunkiest when we entered, jumping up and down and singing a really cute song!! I had it stuck in my head for days! They had a cute golf theme, and the girls had adorable shirts on that said something like "Los always get a hole in one" or something. I t was cuter than that but I don't remember. The girl I talked to was really nice, and she was making an effort to not ask boring questions, which I loved. I'm was undecided, leaning toward one major so she was telling me about all these different clubs and resources, which I loved. She was a senior, and kept talking about how sad she was that it was her last recruitment. By the end of our conversation I wanted to steal her shirt and wear it because I KNEW I was a Lo. The next couple girls were just as amazing as the first, and by the time I left, I was in a state of Lo Euphoria. I was in love.
Whitney was a huge surprise when I walked in. THey were small, but they were loud! I hadn't loved Whitney the day before, but my mind was definitely changed after today. The girls at Whitney were so closely bonded it was obvious. Even though it was the end of the day, they had a lot of energy, and we're very engaging. I asked about the selection process (oops!) because I was really confused at what to do after the events were over. She explained it to me really well, without giving anything away. I thought Whitney was very poised!
At the end of the day, I knew how to rank pretty easily.

Lo
Whitney
Audrina
and
1. LC

I know I had a strange time at Audrina, but I wanted to give them another chance because some of the girls really did seem genuine, and maybe I just got a weirdo on the first day. The next morning I woke up, put on my business casual outfit and headed over to meet my rho gamma....

BlondieCat 10-15-2008 01:07 PM

ok ok I'm back!!!

Sorry! I kept checking for responses and I didn't see any and I thought everyone was bored already!! I'll continue:

The next morning, I got my party list, and I was thrilled to see:

1. Audrina
2. Lo
3. Whitney
Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!

We had to wear nicer clothes today, and it was pouring like crazy. My hair was stuck to my head, so I felt a little self-concious, but hey.

Audrina- right away, the girls tried to make me feel comfortable. They kept saying, "Wow, you look so great for being drenched in rain!" to everyone. Even though we all looked pretty bad. This time, I was by myself with an active, and I hadn't met her yet. She was really nice, a junior who was from far away like me! I knew it probably wasn't the best idea, but I was really curious about Audrina so I asked her if the party rep was true. She said, "its true that our nationals is less strict than some of the other houses, but we're not all neccessarily party animals". The girls performed a short skit which was really cute, and then I talked to my next girl. She told me all about how strong Audrina's sisterhood was on campus, and how she knew I would fit in so well. I could slowly feel myself falling in love with Audrina. All the girls were so poised and put together, I wanted to be just like them!

On to Lo. Lo's theme was amazing- I won't say what it is, but we walked across a red carpet while we entered and they had fake cameras taking pictures of us. The idea was SO cute! After we talked for a little, the girl in charge of recruitment stood up and told us there was going to be a little performance. Instead of a skit, the sisters did a cute song and dance that was absolutely hilarious. I think I would have been embarrassed to do it, but they were loving it the whole time. Two of the girls I talked to today had my major that Im leaning toward, and were telling me all about internship opportunities and great restaurants to go to in the city. I noticed that they all knew amazing amounts of random facts about each other: "oh you're half-persian? So is this sophomore, and she loves dancing too!" (not true, just an example.) It is so obvious that the Los LOVE each other. I asked about sorority rivalrys on campus, and they said that there really wasn't any. I don't know if I believe that, but I do believe I LOVE lo.

Whitney was again a big surprise. They had an adorable skit (but I still liked Los theme the best!!) and were super friendly to talk to. I met one who lived in the same dorm as I do when she was a freshman, in the same room as I live in! It was funny because she kept telling me to watch out when it rains, and not turn on the air conditioner and the hair dryer (which I've already done!) it was really good to find something in common like that. She was very nostalgic for freshman year and kept telling me to take advantage of it to the fullest. The next girl I talked to was really nice too, but she was a little quiet for my taste. After leaving Whitney, I knew I'd have a hard decision to make.

After a long conversation with my rho gamma I finally ranked:

Lo
Audrina

1.Whitney
I liked whitney, but I think they're too reserved for me.

Not boring at all! Plus I like that your school has just a few sororities... it's easy for me to keep track of. :o

AlphaXi_Husky 10-15-2008 11:23 PM

Not boring to me either - I want to know what happens next!

BlondieCat 10-16-2008 11:45 PM

Ahh sorry Im so slow! Thursdays are really busy days with me!!! SO! On with the tale. But first a little background that I've kept a secret so far. I didn't want to mention this at first but I decided i will: I am a legacy at one of these sororities. I honestly didn't realize it at first. I knew my momma and grandma were in sororities, because in 3rd grade I always wore my mom's letters to school. I remember not knowing what it meant because there was/were some/a weird shape/s on it. Anyway, I wont say which cause I dont want it to get ruined, but this may or may not come into play later. [/COLOR]
Anyway. I got my list of pref parties and I got

1. Lo and 2. Audrina

I was so excited to get my faves again! I had a feeling it was going to be a complicated day.

I went to Lo first. When I walked in, I was grabbed by one of the girls I had LOVED the previous night. She was so sweet and told me how excited she was that I was back. She told me all about their badges (which were SO cute) and then we had this ceremony involving Lo's flower. It was so sweet, and I actually almost cried, which is surprising for me. A few of the members told stories about what Lo meant to them, and I almost lost it. I loved how close they were, and I could totally picture myself in their position the next year. I kept looking around and thinking that I would be thrilled to be their sister. I loved it when they said, "I didn't join Lo, I've always been a lo". When I left, my girl hugged me and said she knew that I would have a great experience in greek life, which I liked cause it wasn't too pressure-y, and still made me feel good. I love Lo.

By the time I went to Audrina, I swear I was in a haze. When I walked in, I got picked up by the girl I had talked to about Audrina's party rep. She looked gorgeous, and we had matching dresses on, which was funny. Hers was white, and mine was black. Anyway, Audrina had a bunch of girls stand up and talk about how much they loved being in Audrina, but they didnt have a sweet ceremony like Lo. I tried not to hold that against them though. I was having a good time, but then a new girl came over to talk to me. She said that a bunch of her sisters said we needed to talk because we were a lot alike. She was really cute so I thought that would be fun. Apparently she was the twin of the girl I talked to on the first day, because she asked who I also preffed that day. I felt sort of awkward talking about it, but I told her that I was going to Lo later (I didnt want to tell her I'd already been). Then she said, "its always between us and Lo. Lo is nice, but the only reason they get girls over us is because they have a really good name nationally. If you are interested in a sorority for college, we are way more fun. But if you are interested in name dropping or getting a job, join Lo." i was shocked! So I said, "I like everyone I've met at all of the sororities". I really wanted to just walk away! Luckily, the girl who I was originally talking to tried to save the conversation by saying, "don't mind her, shes our jokester. Lo is very sweet and you would have a wonderful college experience in either." By the time I left, I was pretty torn, because there were a couple girls that I absolutely adored, but two of them had given me a horrible taste in my mouth! I talked to my Rho Gamma about it somewhat, I didnt want to get too in depth because I was convinced she was an Audrina and I didnt want her to get upset or anything, but I just told her a couple girls had been a little tacky.

In the end I decided that while I loved girls in both, I didnt get that tingly feeling at Audrina like I did at Lo. I knew I'd be happy in either though, and a part of me still felt like I should join Audrina, so I ranked them both:
1. Lo
2. Audrina

My rho gamma told us that we'd get a call the next day by 1pm if we hadn't recieved a bid. By 12:30 I felt nauseous. I kept waiting and waiting and at 12:45 the phone rang..........

It was my Daddy, calling to see if I'd heard anything yet!!! We talked for awhile and he pointed out a little later that it was 1:05, so I must have gotten a bid! He also told me that my momma and grandma had been talking multiple times a day and they were so nervous and excited, but they didnt want me to know. I was surprised, because every time I talked to my mom she was so calm and didnt seem to be leaning toward either. It made me think about the names I wrote on that bid card a lot.

honeychile 10-17-2008 12:15 AM

Moms are like that! ;) Mine definitely was, anyhow!

LucyKKG 10-17-2008 02:52 AM

Ahhhh! How exciting!

BlondieCat 10-17-2008 02:56 AM

has anybody guessed my code or where I am yet??? I've been trying to be secretive...

I have no idea, but then again, I never do!

Enjoying your story!

lovespink88 10-17-2008 12:29 PM

no clue, i just wanna know!!!! please continue!

BlondieCat 10-17-2008 01:59 PM

bid night...

I was so nervous!. I had classes all day and I could barely concentrate. Plus, I kept seeing Los and Audrinas all over the place, and we're not allowed to talk. It was SO HARD! So finally at 8pm, all of the PNMs who had recieved bids gathered together in a building on campus. We walked to the quad/lawn area together and lined up in alphabetical order. We could hear the sororities chants and I swear, Lo was louder than everyone else. I'm embarrassed, but I had my fingers crossed the whole time. After what seemed like FOREVER, our rho gammas, who were wearing their letters, lined up and did a chant. I was shocked because my rho gamma from the last two nights who I thought was an Audrina was a Whitney! Then they all took off their sweatshirts and traded them around. They had tricked us! Once they revealed their true houses, we got to open our envelopes. My fingers were SHAKING as I tore it open..........................I pulled it out and saw:

We offer *my name* a bid to join the sisters of Lo on *my school* campus. (thats not exactly what it said. I dont remember at this moment.) I WAS SO EXCITED! I WAS A LO! I started running with all the other PNMS, while at the same time trying to pull out my phone to call my momma to tell her the news.............................................. .................

that we had one more legacy in the family!!! Momma and Grandma are Los!!!!!

She (through her tears) said she'd already sent me a package with her sweatshirt that I stole in 3rd grade (and a picture of me wearing it!) because she knew I was in...She didn't tell me the rule about being accepted if you make it to your legacy's pref night. (i guess she wanted me to suffer!) Then she had to put my daddy on the phone because she had to call grandma!!! Daddy said he wouldn't have let me join another sorority, but he knew from the day I was born that I was a Lo. ( i was named after a friend of my parents who is also a Lo!!!)

Sooooo....I arrived at my new house in tears after talking to my Momma, but it was ok because everyone else was crying too!! Then, the active surrounded us new members, got on their knees and started singing the best song ever.......

do you know what I am yet??

.....................

.................................

.................................................

The words go something like this...............

...........................

ooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhh

..............................

I'm so happy.............

That I Am a................

Kappa Kappa Gamma!!!!!!!!!!

can you tell I'm really happy?!?!?

Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! I hope you enjoyed my story!!!!!

That's a really awesome story! I loved a lot of the details as to why you loved Lo (and liked Audrina) throughout the week - I think that's helpful to those who are on the "other side" of recruitment!

Congrats to you and Kappa Kappa Gamma!

I got two bouquets!!! I was so excited! Ps what is that song?? Is that like "how'd you like to be a KKG??" or is it different?

lovespink88 10-17-2008 03:28 PM

Congrats to you and Kappa Kappa Gamma!

As I read your story I had a feeling "Lo" was Kappa... especially when I heard about Pref night!! Welcome to KKG!!

EEKappa 10-17-2008 03:36 PM

I think it's probably more of a chant than a song? One of my sisters taught it to our chapter, and I've never heard it anywhere else in Kappa. Her mom, who was a Kappa, used to sing it to her when she was little. You do cute hand motions to it:

Go Fraternity: hold hands out in front of you, palms facing out and fingers down
Wear the golden key: make a box with your forefingers and thumbs together, and hold to your chest where the key goes
Be a fleur de lis: put both arms above your head, palms together to make the top of the fleur de lis. We used to take group pictures in this pose -- it was before anyone was doing hand signs. :)

Fleur de Lis 10-17-2008 05:46 PM

Rah Rah for Kappa Kappa Gamma!!!

(I had a suspicion when you said your mom's letters had one "weird" letter. What school do you attend?)

MSKKG 10-17-2008 05:50 PM

Welcome to our sisterhood!
