All I'd like to hear from Bill Clinton!
 

First of all, I think he was admirable, even likeable on Sixty Minutes tonight.

I would just like to hear him say, even once, that he was older and more responsible than Monica Lewinsky, and that he owes her an apology. I'm not saying that she's wonderful, or that she's off the hook - but I do believe that publically or privately, he owes her an apology.

Now, do I expect to hear it? No. Do I think I'm being unrealistic? Yes. But at this point, what would it hurt him? I, for one, would have a new respect for the second POTUS to be impeached if he would just once apologize not to just his wife & daughter, but to the third party in this scandal.

I think he should apologize to his family and to America...nothing else and certainly not to her. I believe he's already done that and I don't think I can ask more of him for it I guess.

Why does he owe Monica Lewinsky an apology? They were both consenting adults.

i find myself agreeing with rudey ( heaven forbid) he owes his family and America first and foremost an apology.

and than i also agree with peaches and cream they both were consenting ,but he really did drag her through this entire circus. I would of loved to see how JFK and his numerous affairs would play out today in the media.


I would be more willing to respect him ( i am republican and i liked him as president...his personal life leads a lot to be desired for) if i saw him publically apologize to hillary and chelsea. Now i dont condone whatever he was doing at Reagans funeral : resting , meditation, whatever to me it looked like sleep. Someone should of said Yo look camera open your eyes.

Why should he apologize publically for what is, at its essence, a private issue? He apologized to the nation--and that's the only thing that's any of my concern. This is real life, not "Forgive or Forget."

While I understand what y'all are saying, I sincerely doubt that I would refer to Monica as "mature" or even a "consenting adult" in this situation. One only has to listen to the tapes that Linda Tripp made to realize that she was very little more than an emotional highschooler at the time of her affair with President Clinton.

Those who work, or have worked, in DC know that the greatest aphrodisiac in DC is power. Monica "fell in love" (her words) for the biggest provider of power in DC, and in return, will probably never be able to date someone "normal" again.

I respectfully disagree with you, honeychile. Monica Lewinsky was a grown woman and a college graduate who knew what she was doing. She knew that Bill Clinton was married with a child. She knew that he had a reputation. She knew that before she even met him. She pursued him. He didn't have to convince her of anything. She was a mature and consenting adult since she was (at least) 21 when the affair started. She wasn't some innocent virgin from convent school. She had a previous affair with a married man. I agree that she was emotionally immature. She was probably in a great deal of pain when the affair ended and when the investigation was going on. I actually felt really bad for her when I heard some excerpts from those tapes that Linda Tripp made.

Ditto this. There are a lot of presidents whose personal lives left much to be desired. Clinton was hardly alone in that regard.

And as for Monica -- she was a consenting adult. Emotionally mature? Perhaps not. But thank god for most of us that emotional maturity has nothing to do with whether or not we're allowed to give consent . . . 'cause Lord only knows how many people on GC would be in trouble, let alone those in the rest of this fine nation. ;)

Personally, if I was Monica Lewinsky, it would be Linda Tripp who I would be furious with, since she taped their phone conversations without permission and then told the whole world.

Numerous women are enthralled with men in power (married or not) or famous, which is why pro sports players, politicians, actors and musicians are so often involved in extra-marital affairs. Personally, I don't think any of those women are emotionally mature. It doesn't excuse the men who get involved with them from their responsibility.

That being said, just because they are political figures, famous people, it doesn't men it's any of our business. Monica was totally set up by Linda Tripp. If Linda Tripp hadn't spilled the beans, it would have just been an affair that went the way that most affairs go, rather than a national event.

I agree with the poster who commented about what JFKs presidency would have been like with today's attacks on politician's personal lives.

I think y'all are showing a little confusion. Personally, I could give a crap about the adultery. JFK did it, MANY presidents did it. No biggie. It happens and the temptation is definitely there.

What I didn't like was the Perjury -- you know, the commission of a felony? The next time I stab someone, I hope to be able to say "Oh, it was a mistake" and then be let off by the judge. It set a standard that I don't think has been good for America.

I don't like the way they went after Ken Starr. I fealt sorry for the guy. He was just doing his job and they basically moved to ruin his life.

Oh, I think he joined a long and distinguished line of U.S. Presidents (and indeed other world leaders as well) on that one, too.

Personally, I don't think that what he said (or didn't say) to his family is any of our business.
