 U. S. Supreme Court Decision re: Same-Sex Marriage

The U.S. Supreme Court has issued its decision:
The effect is that same-sex marriage is legal. In all states. See almost any news source -- here's one from NBC: http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/...-rules-n375551 and, for the lawyers and law students on GC: CNN is providing the text of the Court's decision: http://www.cnn.com/2015/06/26/politi...ges/index.html |

I'm throughly amused with the bigots threatening to move to Canada.

Thankful for the 14th Amendment. That is all. #EqualProtection

I broke down crying at work from sheer happiness this morning when I read the announcement on SCOTUSBlog but then about an hour or so later, I lost it again when I saw this video on YouTube:

I am so very happy for my gay and lesbian friends, many of whom have been in long-term committed relationships for many years. There will be many celebrations all across the US!

And oddly enough, the Earth is still spinning, the sun is still shining, we haven't been destroyed by a meteor and the plague of locusts have yet to arrive. I can't see that this decision has hurt anyone.

This news came at the best time, it is PRIDE week here in SF and the parade is this Sunday, they are expecting close to 2 million people.

I was at a lecture for my internship and had no service till like 2 hours after they post the decision. Then I got major goosebumps and was forever smiling! I can't wait for people to finally have the rights that they should've had!

 I can't stop smiling!
Currently live in a country where the right to marry has included same-sex couples since 2001, but even here it was big news. A great day for love. |

This article (please read it) summarizes my feelings.
"I am gay. I understand the historic importance of this moment. But I know, whether I am legally married or not, the rainbow flag of LGBTQ equality will never shield my black body from a reckless police officer's bullet. I cannot summon enough pride to prevent my black, gay body from being the target of white racial supremacy. I cannot selectively choose which fight I can show up for, because mere survival requires me to fight for racial, sexual, gender, economic and social justice at once." |
