No more Twinkies???

http://www.chicagotribune.com/busine...,3175964.story

I just happened to be buying groceries this afternoon and was shocked to see people buying Twinkies by the cart load. I suggested they go to the Hostess outlet store near me and one of them said he'd already been there and their shelves were empty before noon.

I have to say, I've never seen anything like it. I figure someone will buy them and Twinkies will continue on.

ETA: This article talks about Ebay auctions for Twinkies... unreal!

Well, it's smart. Those people could dole them out for decades since Twinkies never go bad!

AGDee 11-16-2012 06:53 PM

Those are the kinds of comments they were making when purchasing them!

I don't even like Twinkies. Or Hostess cupcakes. I used to eat those godawful snowballs until one day I realized how sickening they were and how awful I felt after eating one. So I stopped.

I don't know that I've ever had more than a taste of any of them, except the pies. Even those were tough to get through, they were so heavy.

They actually last only 25 days. So those people better eat up. http://www.snopes.com/food/ingredient/twinkies.asp

I so don't care about Twinkies or any other Hostess product. I'm pretty sure that I haven't consumed a Hostess product during this century, and I sure don't want my daughter to eat one. There's so many better ways to get your junk food on that taste better.

Of course, someone is going to buy the recipe and produce them. Whatever.

A friend's dad apparently just lost his job--I had no idea he worked there :(

I am sorry to hear that.

I'm not as bummed about the snack foods as I am about the loss of Wonder Bread.

Let's just say I'm at a stage of life that is defined in our PC world as "mature".

I have never bought or eaten a Twinkie, a Ding Dong, or a Ho-Ho. I'm sure I'll be fine.

I am sorry for those who lost their jobs, but you know, I somehow doubt that the big union bosses have fat salaries and will be just fine. Rank and file is another story.

I can't remember the last time I had a Twinkie or any of its HFCS-laden brethren. A PB&J with Wonder Bread, however, can't be beat.

Are Dolley Madison's still around? I remember them. Very similar. Also, isn't there something called "Drake's Cakes" on the East Coast? I remember Rosie O'Donnell talking about them. Aren't they similar? Maybe either brand will expand.
