I agree that posting the link is preferred, but in this and the Auburn thread the complaint was that the Auburn site was sorted strangely.

And whoever asked - yes, I live in Oklahoma. You must be stalking me.

Congratulations to your daughter - We love our new Gammies!

The young lady I wrote a rec for (her sister is the current VPMR for AOII at Ole Miss) went ZTA! She is so excited! She had a wonderful recruitment experience at Alabama as well!

She may not be, but I am. I like the way you sort, IP. ;)

It's me..... I confess! I was an undergrad at OSU! Thanks for all your help in organizing this info.

this should be a different thread, I know, but what about OU?! Recruitment began on Friday, and not one post about numbers, etc.....

irishpipes 08-17-2008 09:06 PM

I graduated from OSU. Masters from TU. Did some undergraduate work at Illinois as well. I'm an advisor at Arkansas.

Haven't heard anything yet from OU but I sent several recs down there. I'm interested to see how they turn out.

barnard1897 08-17-2008 09:08 PM

I'm so happy for 2 Bama girls I rec'd!!! One pledged AOII :D and the other pledged Pi Phi. Congrats to everyone--what an amazing week!

Loyally Kappa 08-17-2008 09:11 PM

irishpipes ... keep up the good postings!

Bamamom13 08-17-2008 09:16 PM

Just got back from the Squeal Run at Bama. It is such an amazing site. Went to The Trunk yesterday, It is a store that has a section for each of the sororities where the girls can pretty much get anything with their letters on it, and they already have a section for Alpha Phi. Their house looks beautiful from the outside and the rumors were that over 150 girls had already signed up for interviews. It seems that not only has Bama welcomed Alpha Phi, but they have rolled out the red carpet. It was wonderful to see!

bamazta 08-17-2008 09:25 PM

I am so excited to say that after a grueling week my daughter has pledged ZTA at Bama!!! She is very excited about it.

Bamamom13 08-17-2008 09:26 PM

Congratulations to your new ZTA!

Sorry, I thought I was on the Alabama thread...........:D
Love the posts and lists, just didn't see the title Auburn on this thread for the names.

FreshmenDAD 08-17-2008 09:32 PM

Looks like it was an interesting rush week for many and that holds true for my daughter as her path this week was a winding one that took many strange turns. But in the end she attended prefs at three excellent sororities and ended up pledging the only sorority she ever really felt comfortable with.

They were extremely nice and welcoming to us. To be honest I was nervous about the my daughter going through rush. You hear som many horror stories but it has turned out to be one the best experiences of her life(so far -- she is only 18 haha)

AOII BAMA MOM 08-17-2008 09:53 PM

DANG!!! When are they going to publish the Bama List? I am dying here.
& Congrats Freshman Dad---We hope that you reveal her pick...

BSCKt 08-17-2008 09:54 PM

That's a good point - those new members should all know that we'd love to have them here at Greek Chat.

I know some of you are going to think this is a crazy question but what do they mean by old row at Alabama?

MerryGPhiB 08-17-2008 10:01 PM

Old Row is Colonial Drive ... the newer houses are the next street over.

Houses on Old Row are Phi Mu, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Alpha Chi Omega, Alpha Omicron Pi, and Kappa Alpha Theta.

I thought Alpha Gam was old row and First Circle.

Now, I did my undergrad at Florida and simply teach here now ... but you are correct in Alpha Gam was there originally. Apparently, when they enlarged the stadium, the KD house and Alpha Gam house were moved ... the Tri-Delts chose to build a new house ... I think. I merely mentioned the only surviving houses.

zetarolltide 08-17-2008 10:23 PM

Welcome to all the new Zetas!

WELCOME TO ALL THE NEW ZETAS!

My son is a Pi Kapp at Bama, a Junior this year, and he and his friends go to the stadium to watch the 'squeal run' so they can see which House gets which girls, and he said the Zeta's had 'the best class !', of course he is a little slanted since I was/am a Zeta and his sister, my daughter was also, but...he usually is brutally honest.:)

Congrats to all the moms and friends and especially all the new members of the Greek community! Whew! I am exhausted reading all the posts!

uaMomtoo 08-17-2008 10:24 PM

Just got back from UA! It was the most incredible thing I've ever seen. My daughter pledged DZ, her second choice.

No...KD, Alpha Gam and DDD are in the houses they've been in for decades. Pi Beta Phi moved...the others on the row folded long before.
"Old Row" does not mean the age of the house. It's a status thing. Read the thread and post that OTW referenced, please.

My mother-in-law was a DZ ... we are a veritable alphabet soup in my family! Haven't had two of the same sorority since I pledged my Ohio Wesleyan grandmother's KKG at UF.

I don't think it's a purely geographic distinction. I think it has more to do with how long groups have been at Alabama.

While the street is certainly still described as being the old row, a group can move and still be an old row group, I think.

Gotcha ... so THAT'S why my daughter's Tri-Delt dues are so much higher? You see, I was a Kappa at UF and "know" that their house at UA is old ... learn something new every day!

Thanks, toots!

Old Row really is really meaningless as it is a fairly arbritrary designation. Alpha Gam, KD, Tri-Delt, Kappa, ChiO and Phi Mu are considered by most to be "Old Row" with AOPi and Alpha Chi are included quite a bit. This throws location out as these houses are on both streets of sorority row. Also, ADPi, which is the second oldest house on campus, was never considered "Old Row" when I was in school but AOPi, which was one of the newer houses, was. You can probably see why I see it as a fairly arbirtrary designation since age nor location have nothing to do with it.

Clarification: By age, I mean the length of time each chapter has been in existence at Alabama. NOT the age of the physical house.

That is very interesting--I never knew that about AOPi

irishpipes 08-17-2008 10:39 PM

I've also heard AOII described as the best of new row, so I guess it depends on who you ask.

UGAalum94 08-17-2008 10:40 PM

[shaking my first at the Alabama Panhellenic site]

Well, I've wasted another day hovering on GreekChat waiting for recruitment information. I'm giving up for the day which means the list will be posted in the next ten minutes. [/shaking of fist]
