Do you think JC Watts would step out of political retirement? Who knows what's gone on since he left politics.
|
While obviously a talented and accomplished professional on the world stage, Rice doesn't help McCain for several reasons:
- Rice is a tie to the current administration, and specifically, to its foreign policy. Most reliable polling suggests Americans want a clean break from the status quo. Why McCain would want such a link to the current leadership is politically unexplanable - She brings nothing "electorally". Her native Alabama is safely within the Republican camp, and her current "home state" of California, is safely in the Democratic camp in November - As others have noted, Rice doesn't really bring a core consitutency (Af-Ams, anyone else?) to McCain's side - (don't have specific cite) but I've read in the past that she's not exactly "pro-life" and has sent signals of at least minimal support for Affirmative Action so long as it stops short of quotas. Neither of these positions is likely to bolster mainstream R support. |

I can say that I enjoy listening to JC as a political commentator rather than when he was a Congressman. Since McCain is old as dirt, he needs to pick someone that is young, has a mass appeal strictly geared towards the right, is likeable, and experience. That's where he'll find his "dream ticket." |
The Pennsylvania primary is tomorrow. PLEASE go out and Vote!

PA. racist or not

Ok, what is going on with Rev. Wright?
Has this man gone crazy? Please.sit.down.somewhere. Is this crabs in a barrel at it's best? Is he working for Hillary Clinton? I'm completely baffled. SC |

Oh. Boy, talk about grandstanding. For shame.... Now is NOT the time....
SC Quote:

Maybe not now, but I bet a book is forthcoming. Why not? Others do it.
|
Soror, I meant now is not the time for his grandstanding (not for his book).

I don't have a problem with the grandstanding. It's just that the media and some folks can't separate Wright from Obama or vice versa.
Rev Wright is SO on point with what he says, IMO. If Obama does not win the nomination, this will be used as the EXCUSE. I told ya'll don't forget whose world it is. Regardless of Wright, if THEY want Obama IN, he will get IN...with or without the so called grandstanding! |
There may be a compromise forthcoming on Michigan http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0...t_n_99273.html but no word on Florida yet.
Despite the 'controversy', Obama is closing the gap on Superdelegates http://demconwatch.blogspot.com/ |
Every Democrat or Democrat-leaning voter (especially Independents like myself) MUST read this!

Totally agree
Quote:
Even though I agree with some (definitely not all) of what Wright says, he has to realize that its best to say these things AFTER Obama wins. A lot of Americans are lazy in their thinking. They're not going to separate Obama from his former pastor's comments because its just too easy. "Obama says what he has to say as a politician" ~ Rev. Wright What was the point of that?:mad: |
Rev. Wright is not trying to cash in. He already had multiple books and an active career as a speaker before these links to Obama thrust him into the national political spotlight. He was and continues to be a well-respected theologian and because of that was and continues to be a sought after speaker. He was and is doing alright without this crap, believe me.
If anything, this publicity is hurting him because right after it happened he had to cancel speaking engagements because of the death threats that he received; also some of those engagements were canceled as a reaction to this negative press (I think). |
Alright, if that is the case and the impression I have from seeing his appearances on tv is wrong then I'll concede the point. I shouldn't have implied he's trying to cash in, though it really makes no difference to me. I was moreso talking about about how likely he'd be able to sell a book detailing his current experiences because of the 'controversy' as opposed to sermons he's published in the past. If his message is worthwhile then why not?
I know he has dozens of theological books & that he was sought after before (I remember hearing that Bill & Hillary invited him to the White House and so he had to have already been nationally recognized) but because of the recent drama he's more famous, infamous, well known, or what have you. IMO what continues to be bothersome is that he continues to make 'controversial' statements before the election. Anyone can see that anything he says now can and will be used against Obama. That's really all I care about... |
^^OK, but I am pretty sure that the book is not about this experience. When he mentioned his book the other day, it was in the context of the talk that he was giving about race and racism, so I imagine the book takes a look at those issues.

So now Obama needs 68 delegates (super or otherwise) to get the Nom and HillBilly needs more than 200.
Ickies (sp?) and Hillary are really getting on my nerves saying "we reserve the right to take this to the convention" what is this? Why wont they just let it go? You already lost boo! Just accept the L and move on with your life. Obama 08'---IF YOU AINT ON SIT DOWN! |

I'm fine with the compromise. Once again Hillary is just trying to keep her name in the news. How are they going to be mad about Michigan when she was the only name on the ballot?

Out in the country however, where constituencies tend to focus in only periodically, IMO she's done longterm damage to the "Clinton" brand name vis-a-vis Black America. People can respect, and at one time applaud, her campaign and how she waged it, but she's had no endgame for a quite a while now. Going forward, I think HRC's future ability to attract AfAm votes (nationally) is pretty much nil at this point. |
:(
I'm a Floridian. I saw what happened in the 2000 election and I'm disgusted and saddened that Hillary supporters would compare 2000 to the Democratic primaries in FL & MI. I voted on Jan. 29 knowing my vote wouldn't count & at the time I was an Edwards supporter so I voted for Edwards.
I watched the Democratic Rules & Bylaws Committe & frankly Ickes can go to hell...and those so-called Democratic Floridians who booed & shouted "Denver, Denver" as our elected officials begged & pleaded with them to see reason and understand that comprimise, by defintion, cannot satisfy all parties completely can go right along with him. They should be happy we got anything back at all. I am now convinced we will lose in November. I've talked personally to Hillary supporters & watched the circus of Hillary supporters on Saturday & most tell me they will not vote for Obama in November & will either vote for McCain or stay home. Welcome to another 4 years of Republican Rule!!! I'm going to try some new investments this year so I'll have enough money to pay for gas next year... |

MsFoxyLoxy77, based on the Hillary supporters that you talked with what are they so angry about? I am seriously trying to understand the ones who feel the election was "stolen" from them. I understand the concern about Michigan, but I could not see a fair way to resolve that, but what did they think would be fair in FL? Do people who say they are not 1/2 vote and therefor they are voting Repub understand that the Repubs did the exact same thing, only difference is the Repubs did not agree not to campaign in FL. I am seriously confused. I understand wanting the best for your candidate, but I cannot see how you would not accept the compromise. |
*Eclipse, is that you? ....is that really, really you? :)

Another woman said, "the Clinton years were great & she just wants to go back to something she knows she can rely on..." She went on to say that if Obama took the nomination she would have to consider whether to vote for somebody else (read:McCain) or not at all. I repeatedly asked, "Why, Why? They are so similar on the issues, why?" I received no clear answers, no legitimate response, just vague references to fancy speeches don't matter, no experience, I just don't like what he represents and so on... My conclusion of the first guy is he has some kind of problem with race. Whether he wants to admit it or not I think he somehow felt Obama was benefiting from saying he was black & able to get more votes because he would be the quote on quote first black president. I actually agreed with the second lady until she couldn't back up why she wouldn't vote for Obama if he won fairly. So my overall conclusion is some Hillary supporters aren't seeing reason. In what world is McCain the best alternative to voting for Hillary:confused: |
Quote:
The only people who can see McSame as an alternative to Hillary are right wing Republicans...Real Democrats and Independents see Obama as the best equipped to change the direction of the country and move it in the right direction. 43 Delegates to go! |
