But every time you come up with a new question, I think "I bet this time she's trying to get us and it's not all/none of the above"!!! :D

Convention Favors
What were the favors given to each delegate at the following National Conventions: 1904 in St. Louis, 1906 in Washington, D.C. and 1908 in Chicago?
a.) cut crystal boxes in which to store your badge b.) hat pins c.) T-shirts with the Convention logo d.) tote bags full of programming handouts |
Thinking about the decade in which the conventions were held, I'm going to go with D, but I'm not 100% sure (hat pins sounds good too)!

What would they hve printed the programming on at that time?! At least that's what made me not think it was D (not that they didn't hve paper, but I'd think production costs would be to great).
I'm going with B - hat pins (cuz it was my gut instinct and Amy's second !) |
Re: Convention Favors

Yeah, tote bags are more current -- 1980s - now. |
I guessed D because I figured Chi Omega was still VERY new and maybe the programing information was useful for recruitment on new members. And I thought the tote bags would have been fairly simple - nothing like they are now. Oh well :(

More Convention Trivia!
Most frequent site of Chi Omega Convention was this resort:
a.) The Broadmoor, Colorado Springs, CO b.) Camelback Inn, Scotsdale, AZ c.) The Greenbrier, White Sulfer Springs, WV d.) The Peabody, Memphis, TN |
Re: More Convention Trivia!

No, not B, although we did have Convention at the Camelback 1982, 1984 and 1986. *Hint* The winning answer is the location which hosted the Chi Omega Convention a record 21 times!
|
I'm guessing D, no reason-just a guess!
|
Last hint...
No, not D either, although the first Convention was held at the Memphis Peabody in 1900. Hmmm...okay...another hint? Let's see if I can post a picture of the place.

A chapter visit from on high?
Mary Love Collins (S.H. from 1910-52) used to communicate often with active chapters via telegram. Once, she sent a telegram to a chapter announcing that Christelle "Chris" Ferguson was to arrive for a chapter visit. Western Union made a typo and instead of reading, "Chris will arrive to inspect the chapter..." the telegram stated, "Christ will arrive to inspect the chapter."
Which chapter received this telegram? a.) Psi, University of Arkansas b.) Epsilon Gamma, University of Tulsa c.) Psi Kappa, Clemson University d.) Kappa Lambda, UCSD |
I'll go with B!
Psi seems "too right" (of course Christ would want to visit the chapter where it all started! ;) ) and is an older chapter so Western Union telegrams seems to fit... I don't know!!!!!!!!! (plus I just did a little research and 2 of those chapters were founded after MLC's run as SH) Way to make us work, NutBrn!!! |
Re: A chapter visit from on high?

A follow-up to the story. Longtime Epsilon Gamma Personnel Advisor, Mary Clay Williams, said the telegram arrived during chapter -- the G.H. read it & they went right on along, thinking of course that Mary Love was quite capable of just about anything! |
An Academic Question?
Which early members of Chi Omega were also members of Phi Beta Kappa?
a.) Jobelle Holcombe b.) Ida Pace Purdue c.) Mary Love Collins d.) All of the above |
I'm going with "all of the above"!
|
Re: An Academic Question?
Quote:
I know that Mary Love's Phi Beta Kappa key is on display in the museum at HQ, but I've never seen the others -- I do know Jobelle & Ida Pace joined Phi Beta Kappa when it was installed on the campus of the University of Arkansas in 1932. |
Going to the chapel...
Who was the first member of Chi Omega to marry?
a.) Alice Cary Simonds married Andrew Van Smith, a Kappa Sigma, in 1898 b.) Jobelle Holcombe, a founder of Chi Omega and later a distinguished professor at the University of Arkansas c.) Lila Davies, a childhood friend of Allie Simonds and an early member of Psi Chapter d.) None of the above |

I'm going with A...just cuz it's the only one that mentions marriage. :p

FYI...I don't think Jobelle ever married since we refer to her as "Miss" Jobelle and Holcombe was her maiden name. |
An NPC Question for All to Guess
Who is credited with introducing the motion that changed the name of the Inter-Sorority Conference to the National Panhellenic Conference (N.P.C.)?
a.) Jobelle Holcombe, Founder of Chi Omega b.) Mary Love Collins, National President of Chi Omega 1910-52 c.) Minnie Mae Prescott, Former Council member of Kappa Delta Sorority and former Chairman of NPC d.) Sidney Gremillion Allen, Former Council member of Alpha Sigma Alpha and former Chairman of NPC |
I just spent the last 30 minutes catching up on this thread. How much fun! Please keep the tirvia coming and I will try to think of some too...
For this one I am going to guess 'D'. |
B

Re: An NPC Question for All to Guess
Quote:
And XOAlum, it's not B either. (This happened prior to MLC.) |
I'm going with C (although B was my first guess too, XOAlum!) :)

"During the first decade of the 20th century, she helped write the constitution for the Inter-Sorority Conference and is credited with introducing the motion that changed the name of this body to the National Panhellenic Conference. She represented Chi Omega at NPC in 1906, serving as secretary; in 1907 serving as chairman; and in 1908." |
Official Ring
The official ring of Chi Omega was adopted in 1905, designed by Ina Mae Boles Morton. Who is/was allowed to wear the ring?
a.) Only the founders b.) Only the founders and members or former members of the Governing Council c.) Current collegiate and alumnae chapter presidents d.) Only the current National President |
I'm going to guess b.) Only the founders and members or former members of the Governing Council.
I think I remember learning this during the pledge period. Does anyone know what the ring looks like? |

I have a picture of the ring here, but no scanner, darn it. They are beautiful -- yellow gold with the symbols engraved on it. |
Convention lore
Which of the following is true?
a.) Delegates to the 1906 Convention in Washington, D.C. enjoyed an excursion through the city, riding in a tour bus b.) An all-day beach party on Lake Michigan was attended by delegates at the 1908 Convention, held in Chicago, IL c.) At the 1914 "Camp Convention" held near Boulder, CO, recreational activities included a burro ride to explore the countryside and a hike over the rough terrain to a beefsteak fry d.) all of the above |
I am going with D!

Another Founders Question
Which founder of Chi Omega was married to an SAE, who was in the military and led her to Washington, D.C. where she helped install Phi Alpha Chapter at George Washington Univ. She helped install the alumnae chapter there and served as their first president. Upon her death in 1954, she was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
a.) Jean Vincenheller b.) Jobelle Holcombe c.) Mary Love Collins d.) Persephone Jones |
Well I don't know the answer but I am eliminationg C and D, they weren't founders!
