The latter. I PMed you though. Also, since I've been sick, my new favorite hobby involves checking the status of my app online like every hour. lol. |
I've been thinking about applying to Howard U. Grad School (school of communications) but I feel burned out. I'll wait and see.
|
I'm done!!!! :D:D:D:D:D
As of yesterday, I now possess a beautiful Masters in Reading and a K-12 teaching credential. My other Masters is in Education and my previous credential was just for K-8. I can now teach any grade level AND teach reading courses at private and/or community colleges. Graduation ceremony isn't until January but I don't mind the wait. I'm just thrilled I passed & finished. Now I get to relax (FINALLY!) but first, picking up my graduation gift from my hubby. My 2011 race red Ford Mustang. WOOHOO! I love muscle cars & I've always wanted a Mustang. |

One of my grad school friends sent me this today, and I forwarded it to my PhD student fiance who thought it was hilarious:

Congrats Violet! Are we allowed to know where/what you'll be doing?!?

Intervention Specialist (Mild/Moderate)
This is something that I have been interested in for awhile and is kind of tied to the work I've been doing recently (working in the mental health field). I'm excited. |
^^ What does an IS do Violet?

Just submitted my last application! Eeek!
I hate the waiting game... |
EEK and YAY.
What field of study? Maybe you'll get lucky and won't have to play the waiting game as long? Mine was relatively short (5 weeks!) |
Higher Education and Student Affairs.
I could potentially hear back from two by the end of January, but one wasn't due until March 1st, so unless they make rolling descisions I probably won't hear for a while. Like you, I'm checking my application status daily, lol. Congrats! |
I am LITERALLY fresh off of the graduation ceremony stage! LOL...I'd like to attend grad school for an MBA, but (I feel like I can be honest), I'm a little scared to take the GRE. So many people say it's so hard.
Don't get me wrong, that won't discourage me from doing it anyway, but I would really like to get a satisfying score! Any tips on how to "study"?? How often should I study and how long before I take the test should I start? |
Study as much as you can in whatever way you can. Seriously. I didn't prepare as much as I should have and my scores reflected that, to be frank. I did well enough, but my GRE definitely won't be making me stand out.
If you think the class is going to work for you, do it. If you're more self-motivated I think getting a study book would be just as good. As an aside - and I'll admit I don't know much about this - don't you have to work for a few years before you can get your MBA? |
Updating to add that I got accepted to my endorsement/certificate program: Autism Interventions. Yay.

After years of procrastinating (and life, and raising a child and working FT), I have FINALLY applied to a graduate program for my Master's in Mental Health Counseling at Trinity University in DC. I still have to turn in my transcripts (will be ordered on Friday), recs and resume (by next friday), but I have cleared the biggest hurdle (for me). Wish me luck.

Only a few weeks ago, I finally made the decision between Law School and grad school for Political Theory. Goodbye LSAT, hello GRE and the crapshoot that is grad school admissions.
|
Today, I contacted financial aid. I'm about to see what the damage is for this upcoming fall. Uggghhh pray for me!
I'm so excited to be coming back to school! I've been waiting since age 5 to start my doctorate. I can't believe it's finally here. :) |
^^^^ Crossing fingers for low damages!
A little financial aid rant of my own: I applied for 4 scholarships. The app deadline for the university = March 1. It is now April 27th. I'm tired of waiting. Hopefully the long wait = I got something. I DID get a nice-sized grant, though. I'm halfway funded. Just waiting to see how much more I'm going to get. I'm particularly nervous about a scholarship I applied for via a local school system. In addition to a large amount of money, it gives the recipient preferential hiring with the district upon graduation. WANT. |
Between my fellowship and my savings, the damage is going to be a lot lower than I thought! However, still pretty stinkin' epic considering. Still applying for scholarships with late deadlines, I wanna see if I can pull in anything else.
Congrats on the half-funding, that is phenomenal! Very nice, indeed. :) |

Grad School - Let the fun begin...Again.
Finished studying about a month ago and took the GRE...if I can make any reco's (recommendations) - if you still have a Borders or B&N around grab a Kaplan book and take the practice tests!! I think I shaved a couple days off my life stressing about the test, but I think those helped a lot, otherwise I might've lost some years...lol. As for what I'm gonna study?

That's a GMAT concentration, generally speaking. I'm sure there are exceptions out there, but every MBA program I've seen only accepts the GMAT. If anyone cares, I'm in my second grad program for "environmental sustainability for live agriculture", specifically poultry and cattle. I got in December, but only took one class this semester. I'll probably be taking two next semester. It's tough balancing a 60 hour or so work week and grad courses, but it's fine. |

I know how you feel with that 60 hr week. I'm doing that now..gotta figure out how to balance that w/ school, but I'm looking forward to it. Quote:
Initially, I was going a different route w/ an M.S. in PR and Org Com, however, my life changed and so did my focus of study...although I did particularly well in that program - 4.0 for the duration I was in the program was kinda nice to brag about :D. |

Is anyone headed back to school to do/study something they've never done before?
My first M.Ed. is in Counseling with a focus on rehabilitation and disabilities. I'm going back for an M.Ed. Intervention Specialist degree (technical term for Special Ed. teacher.) While I've worked with individuals w/ special needs before as clients, I'm still nervous. Counseling adults/children with special needs is one thing. EDUCATING THEM is a whole new ballgame. /NERVES. |
