Formal Convocation Panhellenic 9/25/11
Recruitment Philanthropy Round Panhellenic 9/28/11
Recruitment Philanthropy Round (Cont) Panhellenic 9/29/11
Recruitment Skit Round Panhellenic 9/30/11
Recruitment Preference Round Panhellenic 10/1/11
Bid Day Panhellenic 10/2/11

Bids go out around 2 or 3 pm on Sunday!

I love that they are encouraging PNMs to participate in CARE Walk as part of recruitment. That is an awesome idea. It's a nice way to meet people in a more casual environment.

I know three guys going through fraternity recruitment at Ole Miss this fall. Can't wait to hear the results. All three are freshmen from out-of-state.

I don't know the exact numbers for fraternity recruitment but I heard their numbers were going to be pretty big this year. I know the guys can still register for fraternity recruitment up until like Friday (9/23). I guess they let them take their time or something!! LOL!

I find it interesting that Ole Miss has a 3 round format instead of a 4 round format for FMR. Why is that?

Back in late August they had an "open house" round, Water Parties. It is done in late August and this was the 4th or 5th year they have done it that way. They didn't have Water Parties from the time I went through recruitment in 1996 until about 2006 or 2007.

To be honest, I think they should have this round closer to the actual parties. However, I think since recruitment is "deferred" (based on the football schedule so varies every year), I think the administration does not want those participating in recruitment to miss more classes because of parties. Water Parties are currently on a Sunday.

It seems to work here though. It might not be ideal but it works. They do use RFM here but I'm not sure why the parties are not structured more like other SEC schools like Auburn or Alabama.

Aren't a lot of schools (who are able to do so and don't have a ton of chapters) going from 4 to 3? My school went from 4-4-3-2 to 4-3-2 after I graduated. We used to have Open House - Philanthropy-House Tours-Preference. Now recruitment begins with Philanthropy Day.

So...do the Water Parties have "cuts?" If so when do the girls find out? Now? That's kind of weird but I understand the rationalebehind it.

No cuts from Water Parties. Everyone is invited to Water Parties and Philanthropy Parties. Water Parties (from what I was told) is not even mandatory by Panhellenic. So if a PNM had previous plans she does not have to attend. It is just an open house, no decorations, no songs, etc. It is only like 20-30 minutes long for each party.

I'm pretty horrified that they plan recruitment with no regard for the Jewish holidays.

If there aren't a lot of people there celebrating, unfortunately, it's not something that crosses people's minds.

It seems like recruitment numbers are higher everywhere this year, for fraternities and sororities both. The Class of 2011 has gone Greek! My oldest son is a freshman (and a new Sig Ep! :) I love saying it every chance I get) and so many people from his high school days have pledged this fall. I believe my community as a whole has seem more guys among the '11 graduates pursue fraternity life than any other class in quite a few years.

Anyway, one of the guys I know at Ole Miss is the son of a good friend. She's a little nervous about the out-of-state factor, but like all moms, hoping and praying for the best. All three are good guys.

I will be visiting Ole Miss for the first time for recruitment (although I have been on campus for several visits...it is beautiful!) . Hopefully I will be able to meet Ole Miss Glitter!

Good luck to everyone.

Boy, did I get my a$$ chewed for bringing this up on Sunday. The school has only 5 chapters and they still have 4 rounds.

My cousin's big sis was from Mississippi. She had a sign on her door: "Shalom Y'all".

Unfortunately, not everyone is as sensitive to other's beliefs as I feel they should, which is sad. If I remember right, there was an incident a few years ago at Miami University where Greek Week hit smack in the middle of the Holidays, and it did not go over very well.

Today I told my boss, who is Jewish, that he needs to stop planning audits during the High Holidays. I am having a heck of a time scheduling people for meetings when they need to fly home early for each of two weeks. Half of our team is Jewish, from reformed to orthodox.
