Funeral arrangements finalized for Nailah O. Franklin

The family of Nailah O. Franklin again expresses our deepest gratitude for the love and support that we have received from the community. Your prayers and words of encouragement have meant so much to us during these difficult days.

A celebration of the life of Nailah Franklin will take place Wednesday, Oct. 3 at Trinity United Church of Christ, 400 West 95th Street, Chicago. A public visitation will be held from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M.

To further honor Nailah's life and legacy, we plan to establish a memorial fund in her name. We will share the details when they are finalized. We ask that you do not send flowers but instead continue to hold us in your thoughts and prayers.

I won't even pretend to think I know what DG and her family are going through. The senselessness of it all is overwhelming. I am waiting to hear the arrangements for the memorial fund.

From: Soror DG

Dear all,

There have been an overwhelming number of family, friends, colleagues,
neighbors and community members who have expressed a desire to help
Nailah's family celebrate her life and establish her legacy. To give
voice to this, the Nailah O. Franklin Memorial Fund at The Chicago
Community Trust (one of the oldest, largest and most respected
community foundations in the U.S., and where I've worked for the last
three years) is now open and ready to receive contributions. This
donor advised fund will make grants to community organizations working
to help prevent violence and guide young people's educational and
social development.

If you would like to make a donation please do as follows:

Donors should make their checks payable to The Chicago Community
Foundation and write the "Nailah O. Franklin Memorial Fund" in the
Memo line of the check. Please ask donors to send their checks to
Carol Crenshaw at The Chicago Community Trust, 111 E. Wacker Dr., Ste.
1400, Chicago, IL 60601.

Best,

Lehia

ETA: Many have asked how they can contribute to the Nailah O. Franklin Memorial Fund. The Chicago Community Trust has now set up online payment so credit card payments can be accepted.
