Do we get another recruitment story?
We are all behind you, Soliloquy.

SthrnZeta 10-10-2007 09:18 AM

I was so happy to read this yesterday! Good luck girl!!!! :D

Soliloquy...I will keep my fingers crossed that the sorority of your choice will wise up and see that you'd be a great asset! Hopefully informal rush will be just that...informal. That will give you more time to show them who you are.

Really? You know her personally?

Not to be rude or anything, we don't like to say things like that here because we don't know the PNMs personally (not that she's an axe murderer or anything) nor do we know anything about what specific sororities are looking for. We've seen it happen where tons of people tell the PNM how "great of an asset she'd be" and then she doesn't get a bid, comes back here and says "I rgought you guys said I'd make a great sister." Then we all end up sticking our feet in our mouths. So we just try ro be careful with that.

Wow.

Really. Just wow.

First of all, I would hope that you would give me more credit then that. Not once have I given the impression that I would react in that way towards a simple comment. I may have felt pretty bad after rush, but I didn't say to myself "OMG GC SAID I WUZ KEWL! Y'D tHEY LiE?!" This board is merely a method of distraction and a source of information, not a place where I take what is said that seriously. I'd be pretty worried about anyone that did.

Secondly, I do know her as well as other members on this board. So let's take a chill pill, kay? Thanks!

I understand where you are coming from, but I have been speaking with Soliloquy by long PMs for a while. I know her character more than by her posts on this thread so I feel okay making statements to the effect. I also know where she is in school and what the culture of that campus is. Otherwise, women with leadership skills and good attitudes would be an asset to most sororites regardless of what they "are looking for."

Ok, well then I'm sorry I'm mistaken. As long as you know a PNM that's fine, It's just that people HAVE said that about girls that they don't know from a hole in the wall and I just don't think that's fair.

It sucks that there won't be a "Soliloquy's Spring 2008 Recruitment" thread :(

Are you sure??? Cuz, I was totally waiting! :(

Soliloquy 01-23-2008 03:36 AM

She's right, there won't be a spring recruitment thread. It was cancelled!

However, there might be another formal one on the way later this year... ;)

Had a pretty big thing just happen in my life, a pretty big positive thing, that reaaalllly improves my chances of getting a bid. Let's just say I am now part of one of the most elite organizations on campus and holding a position that most of the student body desires!

Leslie Anne 01-23-2008 06:15 AM

Great news on both fronts! :)

(Now I've got to get the scoop!)

Benzgirl 01-23-2008 01:31 PM

Great to hear from you again, and congrats on the organization you have been accepted into.

nittanyalum 01-23-2008 02:55 PM

Ok, I'm probably going to get (virtually) shot for this because everyone's been so on this young lady's side, but after reading this whole thread in one sitting, I'm wondering why so many experienced GCers are giving some of the feedback they are to this poster. From my reading, I took that she not only had friends in every house but also had Recs on a campus where recs aren't the norm, thereby, most likely, I'm guessing, having an advantage over most of the other rushees. And she still didn't end up with a bid. Even on a campus where chapters take quota and are at total, if "everyone" really loved this rushee as much as she thought they did AND she had recs, somebody would have been fighting harder for her in membership selection and making sure she got on their bid list. Just my pessimistic take from a totally objective read of the thread.

And Soliloquy, I won't claim to know you at all, but from my read, statements like the one you've made below may have been what didn't go over too well in your conversations. Getting a position in another organization, to my knowledge, won't necessarily improve anyone's chances of "getting a bid". And making the point that you now hold a position that most of the student body "desires" won't necessarily sway them your way either. Maybe hoping they're jealous of your accomplishments isn't the best strategy toward working your way into their sisterhoods... just my 1/2 cent...

Have to agree with nittanyalum. Esp re: the new "elite" organization. You may have really wanted this position, but really, did most of the student body apply? If not, perhaps it is something you think is great, but otherwise just a time drain to someone else. I have to wonder if this attitude is what has hurt you in the past.

Of course, I do not know you at all and wish you all the luck in finding the right organization for you.
