I BEG of Drolefille to do one of her trademark line-by-line translations. I can't remember what the thread was, but a few weeks back when she was doing it for all of the incomprehensible posts, I had to gasp for breath from the uncontrollable laughter.

Paging Drole . . .

Yes, jwright, I think a translation is in order. Shakespeare will undoubtly roll in his grave.

Aw, Hamlet quotes. Who said GC didn't have culture?

Well there's something that I can actually agree with you on.

Oh, yes, I got the call and went over to take a look. Apparently, "being nice" is just a facade. Two founders posting their bile in this thread is evidence enough.

So yes, BS is still BS!

I know better, but...

This just drives me crazy.

I posted on HPRL quite a bit previously, because I was invited and I like smaller discussion boards. I always have, I find it easier to get to know people and I am much chattier in smaller groups. I’ve been a member of GC for years and obviously hardly ever post, mostly because of the size.

But I didn’t know there was going to be this constant, ridiculous back and forth. So months ago I made the best plea I could to ask that the members involved just let it go, because I felt it reflected poorly on everyone who wasn’t involved. When that did no good, I stopped posting.

I imagine making this post over here will do no good, too, but I’m a mediator by nature and my personal failing I guess is that I cannot let go without making one more plea. And, this is the only way I know to make the plea public and keep it from being deleted.

BA and Tom, please, for the love of all the things that HPRL was supposedly about, please stop antagonizing, stop creating drama out of nothing, stop pretending to defend something that doesn’t need to be defended. Stop the hypocrisy of bringing a fight here with the most insignificant claims of provocation. It just makes it worse every time. There are some great people on your site and a lot of opportunity to build a positive community. Every time you do this here, it tears down the community and tears down the potential. Don't lose more members like you lost me. Please, just stop.

I'm a regular poster at you-know-where and I heartily co-sign this post. Two wrongs don't make a right.

This is now a MAJOR hijack of this poor dictionary thread, but now I'm getting really curious about the trainwreck going on over there Over the Rainbow. What forum's the bat-, I mean, cat-fight in? That might be fun to watch.

If anyone stops to even think about some replies, they were only started by someone and it had nothing to do with the original post of this thread.

So, I guess if someone started attacking you, you would not reply?

G C was and could be an excellent site again. But if being mean, vile, demeaning, debasing, and belittling to people makes a great site, then G C is excellent.

If some tell lies or half truths makes a good site, well it is here.

There is nothing wrong with a site set up to help and work with Greeks is there? Some seem to think so I guess. Pbear, good luck with your friends here.:o

I'm a vegetarian, but I guess there's nothing wrong with eating a burger every now and then - everyone else does it.

I'm a really nice guy, but sometimes people drive me to incredible anger - that's just natural though.

I'm pretty much the epitome of consistent - after all, I consistently follow my ideals when it suits me, and ignore them when not to my benefit, but that's cool.

I support statutory rape laws 100% - no adult should ever have sex with a child under the age of 18 . . . unless she's REALLY hot, then y'know, hey. Bang away, hammer brother.

I think people who use commas are stupid, except for when I need to separate clauses - it's much more important for me to get my point across.

I would never hurt an animal, unless it were being very annoying - then I'll rip its limbs off and feast on the marrow of its bones.

I'm a pacifist, but I'll punch a bitch in the mouth if she gets up in my business. It's not hypocritical, though, because she asked for it.

I'm not gay, but I'll blow a dude if he really earns it.

Listen, Tom, I think that the other site, which I also post on, has its own niche in internet-greek-life. However, after this response I feel compelled to co-sign with dukemama as a fellow poster on both sites. I think that the other site could be a lot more successful if your replies to attacks were done with respect and didn't demonstrate the opposite of what the other site purports to stand for. Also, if someone won't let up on attacking me, yes I would start to ignore it. You don't have to reply to every attack. It is like if someone picks on you in grade school... ignoring the behavior is the only response that won't actually fuel the fire.

I'm sure there are some people looking at this post and thinking "Who the hell is she! She doesn't know what any of this is about." You're right, I don't know everything of what has happened (although I'm pretty darn sure I get the gist), but I do know that when things get out of control like this at some point one side has to be the better person and let some things go. Sure people will still talk smack, but that is life. I think that while both the members and founders of the other site should still feel free to post here, every time I see something like Tom's unnecessary typo-attack on AF or what happened on this thread, it makes me not that excited to see what is going on at the other site. I can't help but wonder how many newbies who might like the other site view posts from its founders like in this thread and write the other site off because it doesn't seem like the people there live what they preach.

Like dukemama said, two wrongs don't make a right. I'm reminded of the celebrity apprentice episode last night (if anyone else watched it) with Omarosa crossing a line by calling one of the celebrities a horrible father. Sure, she was prevoked, but provocation doesn't entitle you to say or do whatever you want without people thinking less of your character. I have no doubt that the HPRL addition into the GC Dictionary was a provocation, Tom, but it was up to you (and someone else) to decide whether to fuel it. Not only did you unnecessarily respond, your response itself reflected badly on the reputation of the other site.

Thank you to you and dukemamma!

Maybe the same should be same for some on G C with their hatred and posts.

I am sorry, but I only respond in kind!

I refuse to be attacked.:(
