fingers crossed that texasdaughter sees two invitations to prefs today!!

southernyankee 08-25-2006 10:11 AM

It only takes one! I am so proud of your daughter...

Fingers crossed for two pref invites!

proudmom 08-25-2006 10:16 AM

It brought tears to my eyes as you wrote about how proud you are of your daughter. Like BamaDad's and Southyankee's posts, it's so clear how your attitude and perspective are being passed down and carried on by your daughter. That's probably why they wind up in a happy ending place. These threads should be required reading for every PNM. Maybe one of the mods can post a "required reading" thread that directs PNM's to all the great how-to-do-it-right recruitment stories.

Good luck and I am so hoping she gets her pref invites!

The waiting is almost unbearable....been there. Your daughter will do great. I can't wait to find out where she is going.

BadSquirrelBeta 08-25-2006 12:41 PM

Yes, TXMOMs thread has been great!! Here's wishing for another successful day of Recruitment!! Go TXDAUGHTER!!

I just reviewed her earlier comments on Chris and Paula. It sounds like she will be very happy with either of these groups. I cannot wait to hear what happens. :)

Advice for daughter

I have been lurking this thread all week because my daughter is going through rush at the same school as Texasdaughter. I appreciate so much the insight and help this thread has provided.

Tonight is Pref night. My daughter got cut today from one of her top 2 sororities. She really likes the remaining sorority, but is fearful that she will not receive a bid from it tomorrow.

To complicate matters, my daughter is a sophmore and got cut today from a sorority where she has many close friends.

I would appreciate any advice you might have to:
1. advise me on how to help my daughter to not feel badly aand to take it personally that she did not receive an invitation to go back on Pref night to a sorority that the majority of her close friends are in
2. and advise me on how to help her if indeed she does not receive a bid from her remaining sorority. She really, really loves the remaining sorority and is very fearful that she will be cut from that too. She is feeling pretty low and scared tonight over tomorrow.

Thanks so much for starting this thread.

Be sure to let your daughter know that if she is not offered a bid, there is still always later on in the year, or next year, for her to be offered a bid from that chapter. Sometimes it is difficult for the sisters to get to know all of the ladies going through recruitment. Also, let her know that the reasons for her being "cut" from the other sorority was most likely not anything personal, and that she should not be hurt. No matter how many sisters a pnm might know, there might always be a few sisters that she doesn't know, and that can make ALL the difference. Good luck to your daughter!!! I'm sure she will join the right house!!!:)

Really!

Often groups are essentually prohibited by chapter advisors from accepting sophomores or more than one or two sophomores.

It's probably a lot less personal than your daughter feels it is right now.

Often times, the girls who know her may not have as much influence with the chapter as your daughter imagines.

I hope today is a great day for both you Texas moms and your daughters. This is such an emotional process. Your girls are blessed having such caring and supportive moms. Thanks for sharing your stories.

Good luck!!!

So if I'm following this right, last night was pref and today is bid day maybe?

I hope everything is going well for TX-Daughter!

Peachypie, several of us have been there one or more times. About all you can do is focus on the invitations she does have and really cheer on the choices she has...rush as a junior is even harder at competitive schools. I hope with all my heart that she gets the other choice she loves!

I have been following this thread with much interest and I'm dying to know how it turns out. I know that there are others out there dying to know also! Best of luck.

Does this look okay, Daddy? Or should I wear the blue and white dress on Wednesday? How about these shoes?

I can only hope I gave the right answers....

This has to be the cutest post I've seen on here! I loved all the pre-rush shopping!

As for this thread as a whole, though, the waiting is unbearable! Even if she is an aggie (and you know the Bears aren't going to let 'em win in Waco this year!), this thread has been a wonderful read. The KD house at A&M opened its house and its arms to our pledge retreat my freshman year, and they have a great Greek Row. I'm wishing the best for Texasdaughter!

THE WAITING IS OVER!

Today was Bid Day. I've deliberately stayed off the forum the last day and a a half because I've been SO antsy. Just can't focus. I did get on this afternoon and was heartened to read all the nice posts. I do feel like TexasDaughter and I have had some special help in our corner.

Last night TexasDaughter attended Pref Night. And today, I'm proud to report TexasDaughter received her official bid from (can you stand it?))

...... ALPHA DELTA PI!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She called about 5 minutes ago and sounds SO, SO HAPPY. She said, "Mom I can't talk now. I'm going to meet all my pledge sisters, but I'll call you later."

So it's my pleasure to thank all you nice ladies and gentlemen who have commented and given so much invaluable advice during the past week. You all have touched me deeply and I thank you from the bottom of my heart.

I do have to sign off, now, 'cause after this week I think TexasDaughter deserves some FLOWERS!!!

By the way ADPi was the "Chris" group, for those keeping score. I'll post details later of all the other groups. Gotta go call that florist.

Love, TEXASMOM
