Agree about Ray and Yolanda, but the frat boys have done fine with navigation until this episode. In the first instance, they were using a hand written map, which I guess Eric read incorrectly. Their problem stemmed from leaving the ferry dock in the wrong direction.

As for their "shortcut" (a bad idea), I wonder if the map they had was misleading or easily misread. That has seemed to happen to some other teams in other episodes -- maps with limited English or with fewer sideroads, landmarks, etc. All maps are not created equal.

Err as much as I love Ray to be a Greek, he should know better than fly the bird to Yolanda, especially after the tattoo crest showing last episode. Talking about respecting ladies, geez ....
And on national TV.

I play neutral on the hippies, yes they're ugly and too frantic sometimes, but definetely add flavor to TAR. They always try to respect the locals by learning the local language, which very rare for Americans.
I don't really like them, but I have to agree with you. And they are good racers overall.

MoJo is very bland, nothing happen (yet) except Monica's break down carrying a fish. Whoop de doo, fish juice all over you.
What I like about them is Joseph's reactions to her breakdowns. "What!!" "You're not gonna cry, are you?!"

Monica bugs me. To say that Athens is where people began to "think" is moronic!!

I love that quote! In context, it's clear that when she says Greece "is where thinking began" she means Western Philosophy. But the editors aren't letting go of it, and I laugh every time they play it.

Am I the only one who wants to slap Monica and rip her head off?

Who's left?!

RIGGED! I'm now not enjoying Amazing Race as much as before, because I truly believe the producers decide who will be eliminated. If they see the hippies are last, all of a sudden.. presto, "You have NOT been eliminated!"

The producers must think that they are entertaining and make for good TV. I find them crass and annoying. I literally screamed at the TV when they weren't eliminated.

And I was screaming at the TV that they better not be eliminated! ;)

Question: Isn't part of the rules that they are not to speed (or maybe that was just part of one season or one season's episode)? If it is a rule, shouldn't teams be penalized for speeding (because I remember that happening in season's past).

I'm still rooting for the Hippies (yes, I've liked them from pretty much the beginning :D) and Ray and Yolanda - I'm over the Frat boys, although I will agree that they're basically good Racers, and Monica and Joseph just tick me off (see earlier post) :)

RedAngel 05-06-2006 07:59 AM

Maybe that was their second non-elimination.

Supposedly, the non-elimination legs are determined before the race starts. But how to prove/disprove that, I don't know.

I'm with you, but at least until this last leg, I could at least give them credit for being smart racers. But they made some dumb mistakes this time.

First, they made their Yield decision based on emotion and payback rather than on good strategy. They knew that -- thanks to 2 equalizers in a row, all of the teams were pretty much together. If they had been thinking strategically, they would have yielded the frat boys, who have been their biggest competition by far. Instead, they yielded MoJo as payback.

If they had yielded Eric and Jeremy, then it would be the frat boys who would have been handing over all of their money and belongings. Of course, at the time of the Yield, no one knew what was coming later, but it became rather obvious that "Dry" was the faster detour than "Wet" -- after all, R&Y came in first, MoJo made up for the Yield and caught up with the hippies and frats.

If E&J had been yielded, they still would have chosen "Wet" because they always choose the physical challenges, knowing that in all likelihood they can complete them easily. If this had happened, E&J would have stayed about 30-40 minutes behind the hippies and would have been the last to arrive. But because they didn't think strategically, the hippies came in last and E&J came in second.

And then, BJ ran to the pit stop without pants or shoes. I know he's a hippie and all, but when you can see that 3 teams are bunched together, and you don't know where the 4th team is, and you know that if you're last, your only hope is that it is a non-elimination leg, which means you'll lose everything except what you're wearing, it's pretty dumb not to have pants and, especially, shoes on. (Also means you can't run as fast, especially if you're going to try and take a shortcut over rocks.)

Edited to correct earlier statement: There's only a penalty if the clue states a maximum speed limit.

CBS is moving Amazing Race next season to SUNDAYS @ 8!!!!

MysticCat 05-17-2006 04:24 PM

^^^^^^^

Huh. Still feels like it belongs on Tuesday.

I've got to say, though, I like Sunday at 8 better than Wednesday at 8.

jitterbug13 05-17-2006 05:10 PM

I think it will do better at Sundays at 8, given the sucess of their shows that have been at that time slot.

It also means that Cold Case will be up against DH.:(

Me too. I'm looking forward to it on Sundays. It looks like the Hippies won.

blueangel 05-17-2006 10:43 PM

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooooooooooooooooo!

I turned off the TV, and didn't even watch the end after I saw they finished the flag challenge first. They are obnoxious, and didn't deserve to win.

I'm telling you, this show was rigged. The hippies came in last twice, and twice were not eliminated.

xo_kathy 05-18-2006 10:42 AM

And I'm so happy the hippies won! :D

I don't think it was rigged - I think they got lucky. And I think they did try to connect with people in different places and that's why they were so good with getting money and stuff they needed when they were in the non-elimination rounds.
