You don't wanna discuss the topic anymore? LOL. It isn't hard to figure out that such social issues are neverending debates. You know that before you even get started. :)

I am not sure if I am reading your post correctly, so sorry if I respond improperly. But, the way I read this:

First, I would never "LOL" about abortion. It is an incredibly sad and horrible issue that I do not find in the least bit funny.

Secondly, it is precisely the neverending debate that makes me avoid debating it most of the time. There is no middle ground, no compromise. If you are for it, you have to be really for it. If you are against it, you are really against it. So, why beat each other up about it? I have my own simple way of fighting for an end to abortion, and it doesn't include arguing about it with people who will never agree with me. The converations can be very interesting, but I don't enter into them thinking that I may actually change someone, and I would guess that my opponents think the same way.

Sorry to make assumptions in my post, Valkyrie. First of all, it is probably important to point out that there are many, many different pro-life positions, just as there are many pro-choice positions. I don't want to be interpreted to present the views of all pro-lifers.

I think it was you that posted that animals have souls and you are thus a vegetarian. I know you were kidding, at least to an extent. Well, I believe that human beings are human from the moment of conception. They have souls and are made in the image and likeness of God. I don't expect you to believe that, but hopefully you can see how someone who does believe that would never approve of abortion. Of course, I also would never approve of the position taken by amanda who posted earlier, as I would also object to morning after pills and so on.

But, all of you that are freaking out from this admission can just chalk it up to the fact that I live in a red state. I am not a Christian Coalition person, but a red-stater none the less, so there you go. Obviously my formative years in a blue state did not take hold. :)

I am LOLing at your response to that post. I find it funny and the reason is as follows.

You call it arguing and I call it discussing/debating. It is an exchange of ideas and light can always be shed on such issues without people completely changing their positions. Grown adults should know that before they embark on such discussions and end with "well, let's just agree to disagree" or "why express my viewpoint...you're going to disagree anyway." I hate consolation prizes.

Call me insensitive but I tend to mix objectivity with subjectivity and critique the discussion format as independent of the topic being discussed.

I understand and respect your beliefs and the fact that because you believe as you do, you oppose abortion. My question then is: do you feel that your beliefs should form the basis for prohibiting other women from having abortions?

Everyone in here should study Sylvia Brown. She seriously knows all. My friend knows so much about her and is really into her and told me about what Sylvia says about abortion but I can't remember what it was.

I'm just curious, if you object to the morning after pill, do you also object to birth control pills?

It's a shame that people in this country don't still want freedom for its citizens. In case you didn't know, a person isn't a citizen of this country until he/she is born. Otherwise their is no official document for that fetus recognizing that it is a life. Therefore it is not granted any rights whatsoever. The mother gets to determine what is better for her and the fetus.

I still want to know what all these people who oppose abortion/birth control want to do to support these babies that will be born into poverty. They don't want to pay taxes to support them. Most people I know who oppose abortion look down on people on welfare, but many of these large lower-class families could be smaller if there wasn't such a stigma about abortion/birth control. The cycle will never end if people still make others feel bad for making decisions about their own bodies. If you want to live in a country where the government can control your uterus, go somewhere else. Freedom is what makes America so great, and lately there seems to be a huge movement to take freedoms away. Freedom of religion, etc. We may have been founded by Christians, but they were trying to get away from a country that was controlling them.

Like I said before, if someone gets an abortion, it doesn't affect you at all. Most of the time you wouldn't even know it had happened. Most people don't make the decisions lightly, either. I personally don't agree with it as a form of birth control, but there are definitely accidents and other extenuating circumstances. I honestly don't think anyone would know 100% what their decision would be about abortion until they are in a situation themselves. One of my neighbors (who is extremely pro-life) thought she might be pregnant at the age of 57. She had grandkids already. She confided in my mother that if she was indeed pregnant, she wouldn't have it. It would be unfair to herself, her family, and the child. She wasn't pregnant, but she now believes in freedom of choice.

I realize that this is the law in this country. I never said it wasn't.

Not all aborted babies would be born into poverty. Additionally, why not kill all people living in poverty if poverty is so bad?

They don't want to pay taxes to support them. Most people I know who oppose abortion look down on people on welfare, but many of these large lower-class families could be smaller if there wasn't such a stigma about abortion/birth control.

A lot of generalizations.

The cycle will never end if people still make others feel bad for making decisions about their own bodies.

Why do you care if someone makes you feel bad? When it comes down to it, you can have your abortion. You win.

If you want to live in a country where the government can control your uterus, go somewhere else.

I am opposed to most government control, but there is a place for some government control, and I think this is one case, just as others may support gun control or drug control, or crime & punishment. I didn't realize that having an opposing view meant I had to move somewhere else. Am I not free to believe as I wish?

Freedom is what makes America so great, and lately there seems to be a huge movement to take freedoms away.

That happens when you tell people to move away who disagree with you.

Like I said before, if someone gets an abortion, it doesn't affect you at all.

When people are stabbed or robbed it doesn't affect me either. Most pro-life positions have nothing to do with the effect on one person.

Most of the time you wouldn't even know it had happened. Most people don't make the decisions lightly, either. Congratulations - another one for your cause.
