I have very dry skin, so I have to be sure I am exfoliated and moisturized beforehand or it will look cake-y. But I work in retail and don't really have time to reapply or worry about how I'm looking, so I love that it stays put all day, and my skin is definitely healthier-looking. I'm thinking of buying the Beyond The Basics Kit and adding to my collection. It's a little pricey but lasts forever!!

Yay!! another BM Lovah! hehehe

I'd recommend the Prime Time Foundation primer (after you moisturize, and before your BM foundation). It makes your makeup look especially great for a longer amount of time!

I'd also recommend the Well Rested. I looooooooove me some Well Rested!

I've been using BM since... I think Septemberish... and I am still on my same jar of foundation! I haven't even cracked open my second jar of mineral veil, so I'm still using the smaller jar.

Bare Escentuals back on QVC 1/7!!!

catiebug 12-30-2007 12:25 PM

Okay, I thought of all y'all as I walked into Sephora (one of my boyfriends, who has since passed away, referred to Sephora as "man-hell") at the Danbury Fair Mall yesterday.

Lately I've been using a mix of Stilla, Lorac and Prescriptives. Every 18 months or so, I totally change my make-up line, but still try to keep the "classic" look I've been using for years.

Anyway, I asked one of the ladies at Sephora about Bare Minerals. She tols me about it and offered to use them on me; she did my face and eyes. WOW!!! I fell in love with the stuff. I walked out with the basic set, the eye set and the "beyond the basics" set. About $170 (with tax) total.

But wait! There's more!!!

As I was perusing the mall, I found a Bare Escentuals boutique. I felt myself being pulled in. If I had known this was here, I would have made my purchases here instead of Sephora. I guess I'm hooked; I walked out with a blusher and a lip color.

I can't wait to get more. Someone save me!!!

Did you get the Bare Minerals frequent shopper card? (I can't remember their actual name for it, but basically they stamp it for every $10 in purchase you made and after they are all filled up you get a discount)

Organizing your BMs

How do you ladies organize all your jars? So far, I have them stacked in the top drawer of my bathroom/vanity... but I'm not sure that is the most effective/effecient way to do it... esp. as my collection grows...

catiebug 12-30-2007 01:29 PM

I did!

The girl was so nice - I spent $38, but she stamped it five times for me.
:D

I keep all of my make up in a very 1990's caboodles carrying case. I keep all eye make up separate from face powders, bronzers, etc. My lip gloss has it's own section, my brushes have their own section, and all the eye and lip pencils have their own section.

My eye collection is quite extensive though. Eventhough they have their own section in my caddy, I still have to stack them up in rows :) To save time I try to keep them organized by color/kit family.

I love BE! I'm a recent convert, having just got my starter kit, Fair foundation (which doesn't come in a kit - unfortunately), Clear Radiance, Bisque and Well-Rested at Sephora in the San Francisco airport before I flew back to the UK after the holidays. In retrospect, I should've bought more as the exchange rate was good. I've only been using it for a week and a half, but love the way it feels and the fact that I look like I've got great skin, instead of looking like I'm wearing make-up.

I have ridiculously pale skin (living in Scotland doesn't exactly help) and if they were to come out with an even lighter shade of foundation, I'd be happy. :) For now the Fair is ok, and it looks like the Fairly Light will be my colour for summer (woohoo for fake-tan that doesn't turn me yellow or orange).

I'm contemplating getting some of the eyeshadows next, and was thinking about Black Pearl and perhaps the Meet the Plums kit. Does anyone have experience with either of those? I've been addicted to Chanel's Quatre Ombres for years now but could be persuaded to branch out.

The one other problem I have with BE is that they don't stock it at ANY major shops in the UK (Debenhams, House of Fraser, Selfridges, Harrods, Harvey Nichols, etc.). They've got it in Italy and France, but neither of them will ship outside of their country - not even within Europe; which means I either have to pay nearly double for it on smaller UK websites or order it from the US and have a friend forward it to me. :( Le sigh.

I've read where some people add up to a full pot Chenille eyeshadow to fair for a "porcelain" foundation shade. I've also heard rumor that there may be some new foundation shades this year, including at least one lighter-than-fair color.

Stay far, far away from Meet the Plums. Heck, stay away from anything called "Meet the" unless it's Stones. I've been very happy with that one, but the others are lousy. I love the Guilty Pleasures 9 eyeshadow kit and the Get Started Eyes kit; and Vanilla Sugar (my favorite BE item!), Heart and Bare Skin for individual pots.

I just looked, and qvc.uk does sell BE. Maybe that might be a more affordable way for you to get your BE?

Looks like I'm the only one that has tried it and didn't like it.

Hey yall!!!

I was looking into trying BM because I've heard some good things about it here. I'm a makeup addict and I wear Clinique, NARS, Stila, TwoFaced, Benefit, Philosophy, MAC, and some Maybelline and Physician's Formula stuff.

However, I have no idea what color to get since I don't know anybody around here that uses it. Also, being that I live in the deep south, I was looking for a makeup that I could wear year round, especially during our great humid heat filled summers that makes you feel like you're in a sauna 24/7. :) Really the only makeup I wear during the summer is eyeliner, mascara, and lipgloss.

I'm uber fair.. let's just put it this way when i burn i go back to being fair i don't tan
I have dark brown hair that lightens during the summer to a brownish red since I'm outside so much.
I also have hazel eyes that are more green since I wear green contacts :)

Thank you ladies soo much for your help!!!

I would suggest going to a Sephora/ULTA or a Bare Minerals boutique to try the actual shades on your skin to find your shade. If you are super light, you may try AOIIAlum's suggestion of adding to the foundation to get a new shade.

I'm in between the Medium Beige and the lighter Tan, so I mix some of the lighter tan in with the Medium Beige foundation pot and the result is perfect for my skin tone.

I haven't used BM in the hot Texas summers yet (just started using it in September), but I have worked out in my makeup before since I work out during lunch on the weekdays and it doesn't look like it was melting off my face like a lot of liquid foundations can.

It's also really light so I have no doubt I'll make it though the summer and not feel like I'm wearing a mask!

thank you tx princess!!!!!

next time i go to atl i will def check out the sephora or ulta store!!

Thanks for the info AOIIAlum! :) I'll try the Chenille in the Fair foundation trick, and have a look at the Get Started Eyes kit. The Vanilla Sugar and Heart colours are so pretty! I'm sitting at my desk looking at the little catalogue that came with my starter kit.

Unfortunately the prices QVC UK are charging are ridiculous, it's about twice as much as they'd cost in the US, so if I order a lot there and have my friend forward it to me in one parcel, it'll still be less (including both cost and shipping) then if I was to buy it here. :( But thanks for having a look.

So now, my revised plan is to go for several eye colours (Chenille, Vanilla Sugar, Heart, Black Pearl), the Get Started Eyes kit, another of the Radiances (I have Clear radiance at the moment and love it), and the Rose Gossamer. So fun! :D

I really like the Get Started Eyes kit, it comes with basic colors that are good for everyday wear. I really like Bare Radiance. I'm a little darker than you, but it looks really pretty as a light bronzer. I bought a small one first in a kit and then got the huge one from QVC.
