And the quote about not knowing buffalos had wings... JESSICA SIMPSON in a nutshell |
BW3s has gotta be ranch dressing and CELERY, not carrots. :D
|
Hooters makes the best wings ever... i'm craving them now!

I love funnel cakes though. And I am forgetting one thing. I was in Hawaii one year and i had papaya salad dressing. It was AWESOME and I can't find it anywhere here... unless it's mixed with something else and the last ingredient on the list. |
Funnel Cakes are soooooooooooooo good!!!!

Other native CA things everyone has to love: In & Out (I know it's already been mentioned but it deserves a third) Jamba Juice (I know you are starting to get it elsewhere but the originals were here and were called Juice Club) Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf (the Original Ice Blended) California wine Tito's Tacos (if you haven't been there you need to go) Apple Pan (for the diehard 90201 fans, the Peach Pit was modeled after the Apple Pan) Tommy's Original (can you say chili cheese burger?) |
for home...
Tastykakes cheese steaks (I find it really funny when places up at school have "Philly Cheese steak" on the menu... what they serve is nothing close!!) water ice (some people call it Italian ice) -- it's kind of like a slushy, only thicker, and you eat it with a spoon... hard to explain, and not the stuff you get in the little cups from the supermarket (www.ritasice.com) for school... yeah, poutine. I'm afraid of it... but most people here eat it like it's their job. I've also never seen Greek Chips anywhere other than Lennoxville... |
I knew this one...
The Original Mel's Diner/Drive In was started in San Francisco. It's where American Graffitti was filmed. They have them here in Sacramento and down in SoCal. But then again, a 50s style diner isn't completely out of the ordinary. There is actually an un-related chain of Mel's Diners in Florida. But none the less... great burgers and shakes. |
Our love affair with food is unbelievable!!!
I didn't make it through the whole thread, so if no one has said- Crawfish anything! I've tasted a lot of delectable, gastronomical pleasures in my life, but La. has a "flavor" that once you've tried, will spoil you for any other regional epicurean delights! Honestly, come to La. and see how good food can be! |

There are only two locations of this place but it puts olive garden to shame. Called Spagetti Eddies. YUM! So is the Apple Pan also in Bev hills? or in the LA area? |
Roll-n-Roaster
How did I forget this? I grew near this fast food chain of 1 store. Great roast beef sandwiches, and I mean great. French fries with melted cheese.:)
Here is a site with a map of where they are: http://www.citimaps.com/brooklynpages/rollnroaster.html If you look at Manhattan Beach, across Sheepshead Bay, look for Coleridge Street. I grew up on the ocean block. I just remembered Roll-n-Roaster because my sister and her boyfriend ate at their (after 33 years!) second location that just opened in manhattan at 3rd Ave. & 11th St. I'll have to make a run there soon. Here is another site: http://www.nymetro.com/nymetro/food/openings/n_10267/ This is their site (under development) http://RollnRoaster.com |
Definite Philly food list:
Cheesesteaks Hoagies (both on an Amoroso roll- gotta have that distinctive bread) Tastykakes Frank's Soda, especially Black Cherry Any Black Cherry Soda flavor, I cant find it here in State College so I'm thinking its a Philly only food Soft Pretzels! The best ones are the ones you get from the vendor off the side of the Schuykill Expressway. Ritas Water Ice- you have to taste it to know it. Notes on Cheesesteaks: They DO NOT COME WITH SAUCE!!! Its just cheese (usually provolone, american or whiz), steak, fried onions and an Amoroso roll with maybe pickles, mustard, mayonaise, ketchup as extras. Asking for lettuce and tomato means that you want a cheesesteak hoagie. |
