When I went through formal recruitment in Fall '02 (I was a freshmen) I had my mind set on Phi Sigma Sigma. I met one of the girls bc she was dating one of my bf's fraternity brothers. Well, she told me about Formal Recruitment and I decided to go through that. Well, first night was only 30 minute parties, I clicked very well with Phi Sig and the sisters of AST. It wasn't till the 2nd night of parties that I started to realize where my home was. Yeah, I still loved Phi Sig (still do, great group of girls!) but AST and I clicked. Pref came and I was only invited back to AST. After their pref I knew were my home was. I did not suicide, I put Phi Sig as my 2nd choice. So yeah, I got my first choice. :D

YES...I got my 1st Choice...

I just wrote my story plus a bit more on the "Crying on Bid Day thread", but yes, I got my first choice.

I really loved the AGDs from Day II on (tour day)...I was being rushed very hard by ABC and I kept getting the same girl. I didn't know how the behind the scenes stuff worked ;) . I really loved Alpha Gam tho and was so happy when I saw the 3 circles of the crest on my invitation to bid.

I (not being sappy here) have grown to love the greek system and have been so blessed for the foundation that AGD gave me and then the other tools that I got from being greek allowed me to really branch out on campus and have stayed with me after graduation...

If you are a PNM reading these threads, I encourage all of you to go through your rush experiences with an open mind and please give the chapter that you are invited to pledge a fair shake if you don't get your first choice.

I was very fortunate, and got my first choice....Pi Beta Phi. On preference night, I also went to Theta and Kappa, and I was a legacy to both houses. I would have been OK them also, but the very first day, I had my heart set on Pi Phi.

Yes, I did - Kappa Alpha Theta. And I would have been thrilled with my "second" choice - Pi Beta Phi. Either one was great, it was torture to pick. I loved recruitment from beginning to end.

YES I DID!!!

I know I got mine! I fell in love with the girls during open house. They were genuine and cared about getting to know each girl that walked through the doors. :)

Better 10 years late than never. LOL.

My first choice would have been the Phi Sigma Sigma chapter on my campus. Many of my freshman year friends were sisters, were also in another campus organization with me, and I spent tons of time in their suite (which was in the dorm I lived in). HOWEVER....before I could pledge in fall of my sophomore year, the chapter was recolonized. All those girls who were the reason I'd wanted to pledge were no longer active sisters, so I didn't know where I would go or if I would still rush in the fall.

Well GUESS WHAT. Over the summer I realized I wasn't ready for the intensity of the relationship I was in (I had met most of these girls through my boyfriend) - as in he thought there was no issue with the fact that I had never dated anyone else and I should be perfectly happy to be a long distance girlfriend/fiancee for 3 years. HAYLE TO THE NO. We broke up, and many of those girls stopped speaking to me or at the least were just barely cordial to me. To be fair, they were his friends first so I guess I give them points for loyalty. But I can't imagine what it would have been like if I'd been their sorority sister on top of it - that would have been a boiling hot mess.

So while all this was going on, I decided to just go through rush. I had ASA in mind from the beginning, but there were a lot of great girls in my dorm that were XYZs and really made me feel welcome there....plus I liked PQR much more than I had thought I would. I ended up listing ASA first, XYZ second and PQR third. I remember sitting in my dorm waiting to be picked up by whichever sorority I was in and thinking, "Oh, crap. Why did I do that? I don't want to be an XYZ!! I want to be an ASA!"

Well, a score and a quarter-score later...I know that NWIH would I have been happy in XYZ, and I'm friends with more PQRs than any sorority other than mine. :)

**Stars** in my eyes

When I went through, I was so impressed with one group, I hardly remembered the others.

Then, on the night before the last pref party, they had very fancy skits. As I was waiting to go into my **STAR** chapter, one of the sophomores in the group remarked that the chapter did a really good job of making each and every one of the PNM feel soooo welcome, it was almost criminal. Because less than half wouldn't make it to the next round. Many of the PNM would drop out of Rush altogether because of the rejection they were going to get. This was irritating the other chapters because it usually dropped quota by several girls.

I was stunned! WHAT IF I DIDN'T GET A BID FROM THEM!!

I thought over the other groups in my head, but because I thought I was such a perfect fit, I hadn't paid much attention to the other groups! Well, I made up for that! I carefully analysed all the groups, and felt that I probably did belong in a different one!

When I got my list of invitations the next day, guess what - - NOT on my **STAR** group's list. Yup, cut! Sooooo glad I had been a better attendee at the rest of my parties!

My final two parties were the best, I felt loved and appreciated by both chapters.

Good news is that the group I chose was the best for me!!

My roomie got a bid from the **STAR** group - but, she de-pledged after only 2 weeks. I found out that they would habitually lose girls before initiation because they lost steam in forming friendships and felt that if you got a bid, you should feel privileged.

I did! Theta was the other group I preffed and I truthfully would have been happy there too, but in my heart I knew I loved ADPi more:)
