Shouldn't you feel like your man IS a wonder though? I mean, if you don't think that, then why are you with him?

nikki1920 09-21-2007 09:56 AM

EXACTLY!!!

She just always struck me as phony.

lovelyivy84 09-21-2007 10:28 AM

I would start getting the phony vibe when she started calling herself 'prophetess'. That would have been the flashing neon sign for me.

Also, that she is preaching on tv. I think all those dudes are crooks, sorry.

And on teh whole paying for prayer tip- at the West Indian parade this year there was a group giving it out for free- standing around yellin FREE PRAYER! We will pray for 30 seconds for you FOR FREE!

Maybe it's because I'm pretty much a heathen, but I am STILL laughing at that. Like Wow! What a bargain!

nikki1920 09-21-2007 11:29 AM

Stop it!! lol

I'm wary of people who give themselves titles. Anyone who claims that they are being told to collect $30K for a sanctuary is a quack, IMO.

I only watch Joel Osteen on TV, my money goes to my church (when I have it).

LMAO @ free prayer! It's a shame that prayer is being marketed though. It's not cleanser, it's prayer.

I remember as a kid, there was a phone number to call and talk to Santa. If I ever see a phone number to call and talk to God, I will not be amused.:(

And the thing is- I can TOTALLY see that happening. As a matter of fact I bet that it's on some televangelist station right now.

Little32 09-21-2007 12:10 PM

Just 99 cents per minute; compared to some of these other prices, that's a steal.

nikki1920 09-21-2007 12:18 PM

you know that people will pay whatever the price is to talk to God, via a 900 number.

How many people gave to Swaggart, Bakker, etc? :(

why would I pay $1000 for someone else to pray for me??
It's funny to read about a pastor selling her prayers today when I was just reading an article about the Protestant reformation. It was all about how Martin Luther got the whole Protestant ball rolling because he was so disgusted by the Catholic church selling absolution of sins, Masses to get you out of Purgatory after you die, etc. Just goes to show that there's nothing new under the sun.

That's a really good point- purchasing pardons (indulgences I think they were called?) was a huge moneymaker for the church just a few centuries ago.

this was a great read, thanks for sharing, jitterbug13. this section:

Others, such as Tim Morgan, an editor at Christianity Today, see it as a more organizational problem — the absence of the kind of internal oversight common in mainline Protestantism and more recently in non-Pentecostal Evangelicalism. "Quite a few of these independent churches feel they are beholden to God alone,"

...speaks to why i'm not in enamored w/the non-denom. push in this country. a lack of checks and balances is a recipe for trouble, IMO....

Catch the Juanita B. special on BET when it airs again. Its an interesting take on everything that has gone on with her including the point where Weeks attacked her.

No problem. :D And I agree with you on this one. Some wonder why I'm hesitant to go to a non-denom. church and this is one of the reasons.

Just a question: Do you feel Non-denomination is a denomination?

To me, Non-Denom is not Baptist, COGIC, Methodist, etc. but it is a denomination.

Just curious to know y'alls views on the matter.
