(except seriously Pepsi is no comparison)

(forreal though)

Cosign. Pepsi tastes like poison.

Also Coke is the nectar of the gods.

Some people definitely think it is unimportant. That's their opinion and that is absolutely fine.

We would not know that. That is why the OP, not GCers, is the one who decides whether to take the next steps.

I have yet to respond here, but I've made my way through the entire thread and have finally formed an opinion based on everything I've read...

Looking for someone to blame? The OP should cover her butt?

This isn't the scandal of the century. And the OP has already discussed this with others, including the Dean herself. If this is against some rule, and word gets out, the Dean will ultimately pay the price.

The OP will not be the focus of the issue.

When she brought up her concern and it was not taken any further, then the OP carried out her moral duty. The OP did all she could, and should, do.

.....

Also, as much as we honor and respect our greek membership, and as much as it is important to us, as far as a College / University is concerned, other than RM issues, Greek Life is not high on the priority list. A College/University can completely eliminate Greek Life and the school will still operate.

This! Even the other people on this panel who helped to hire this person brushed it off like it was nothing.

Those who aren't Greek probably don't care too much. They most likely didn't even know what the OP was talking about when she expressed her concerns. There are many immoral things a person can do, and joining two different Greek organizations probably comes in at # 235,392 on the Most Horrific list.

If in the future, this in some way negatively affects the Dean's ability to perform her job, then yes, the OP should escalate the issue. However, for now, I think she should keep quiet.

More on topic, I am the queen of CallingPeopleOutOnTheirShitBecauseICan'tStandItWhe nPeopleGetAwayWithLying/BreakingRules/BeingRude-ica so my first impulse would be to be all "take her down!" but the little bit of rational in my head says "stfu this would be literally none of your business and you'd end up as That Guy". If I was friends with any people in her NPHC sorority who had nothing to do with the school (like physically distant high school friends) I might bring it up casually with them? With vagueness/details depending on how close I was with her.

So ... your first reaction would be to train-wreck the situation, but only if it couldn't be traced back directly to you?

That ... sucks.

What? No, I meant that my first reaction would be to do something drastic about it but the smart part of my brain would rule that out. I meant "queen of CallingPeopleOutOnTheirShitBecauseICan'tStandItWhe nPeopleGetAwayWithLying/BreakingRules/BeingRude-ica" as a negative trait that gets me in trouble on a semi-regular basis, not like something I'm proud of.

If I still felt like I couldn't just sit there and do absolutely nothing, I might mention it to a friend in that group, if I had a friend in that group. A few girls from my high school "circle" joined NPHC groups and we keep in touch. With one of the girls I'm close to I might just come out and say "our Greek life director is a whatever, but she joined an NPC before she joined y'all. It's kind of freaking me out, since NPC is so adamant on no cross-initiation. Am I just being weird about this?" and she'd probably either go a.) "Oh, I can't talk about that," b.) "Uh, wtf? That's not okay," or c.) "Yeah you are, that's fine by us" and I'd move on. If it was a group with a friend that I was less close/open with, I might start a conversation just generally on the topic since for us it's pretty common to discuss the differences conferences/groups. Maybe that's unusual, but most of the girls I know who went Greek all keep in touch still. This would still be snooping around and would probably still get me on people's shit lists, but hey, it's a trait I'm working on.

^^so KSig is right: youre recommending the OP be a shit starter. The more I read the more I say she should stay out of it. It just sucks bc she feels strongly about the situation and will never get any resolve.

I'm betting there are other cases like this and the world still turned.

tld221 08-16-2012 01:43 AM

As for your posting style, just go with it.

Whoa, what? I literally said "but the smart part of my brain would rule that out". I never recommended anything, just offered my thoughts as the OP asked for "advice, suggestions, or perspective" as it seems like the OP struggles with just letting things possibly be wrong, as I do. If I did compress my post into one recommendation, it would be more along the lines of "don't be that guy, but if you just can't stand not doing anything, quietly mention it to someone you trust who would actually know if this a problem or not".

She's saying what she would do if she were in the OP's shoes in a sharing-her-thought-process way, not in an advice giving sort of way. I can see how one could easily think she meant the latter, though.

Hey, hey, slow your roll. I, in fact, hold the record for "nastiest thing out there" and don't you ever forget it.

Sincerely,
Dr. Pepper

As to the OP, let this go. You've got (hopefully) far more inportant things to be concentrating on.

As your Diet counterpart, I stole your title years ago, buddy!

Quit stealing my thunder.

LOL. I hate both TonyB06 and AOII Angel.

Dear Sodas,

You are all my bitches. People only drink you when they can't access me. Bow down, bitches.
