Shallow diversion, but I see the pref pictures online, and they are lovely. Everyone's hair and makeup looks gorgeous despite the crazy heat and humidity. How are they doing this? I'm a wavy/curly girl myself, and I can only imagine what a frizz-ball I would be in that weather...never mind the nervous sweat that would certainly be on my brow. This wavy rushee needs to sell her secrets, because she'd make a fortune. I'd be first in line:

Still nothing from my young lady. I am holding on to hope that it is not bad news. Hopefully I will have an email when I wake up.

Is it bad that, when it comes to recruitment, not hearing anything makes me assume the worst?

insight

Been getting bits and pieces from sophomore active who also has gone through late nights, early mornings, lost voice, lectures, debates, and tears. The process is tough for both sides and no decision has been easy. Let's keep all the girls in our thoughts and prayers as they start classes tomorrow as well as Bid Day.

WTF are the girls in the T-shirt round photos doing wearing black silky satiny shorts/skirts?!

ETA: seriously a black poofy ruffly skirt with a tshirt is like asking for girls to think you cannot dress yourself.

I can stop holding my breath. The PNM who I was helping prepare for UGA recruitment called and told me she was going to three pref parties. One was one of her top choices for the entire process but she would be very happy with either of the other two. There are so many broken hearts from UGA rush but at least it didn't happen to her.

I can't believe they have their first day of classes and bid day all rolled into one.

Granted, my first quarter (when we were on quarters, you know, back in the dark ages) wasn't exactly rocket science, but by that point, I'd already had bid day, plus one extra day to recover from Rush/Bid Day.

And I had needed it!

But I definitely rolled out of bed in time for my very first college class which started at 7:50 AM and was alive, alert, awake and enthusiastic. French 201. Taught by the ever-dreamy TA, Ben. Sigh...Ben.

What had been really nice though is that the sister who ended up becoming my Big took me all over campus the day before classes to show me exactly where I'd need to go, and which bus lines would get me there.

Happy memories.

There were 194 upperclassmen participating this year, so I'm sure that quota was a little more tight than in the past 2 years. I do, and then I don't, want to know the quota numbers. It is just so DAMN frustrating! If needed, I can post her info and picture and you can see for yourself that she isn't a cyclops or boring person. Just a great all around girl. I've heard from the moms of 3 of her friends (in 3 different houses...this was there first year on the "other side") and they were sorry that it didn't turn out for her....just a typical rush year at an SEC school. You start to wonder when 1492 girls sign up for rush that the discussion about the economy, etc. is just a bunch of hog wash and the fact that the HOPE scholarship reduced the amount of reimbursement and eliminated covering fees and books hasn't affected anyone's pocketbook. I'm more than inclined than ever to encourage her to participated in the LEAD South Africa trip for next year! Thanks again everyone for the well wishes!

Beachmom - I am sorry about the way things turned out but just wanted you to know that last spring three of the chapters at UGA did an informal spring rush and 3 of our local girls who are so smart and cute - one's even on one the UGA spirit teams! - went thru and all 3 got bids are are now happy sorority girls.

A little sad -- a family friend chose to drop out of UGA recruitment today. I had written her a rec. Such a terrific girl but perhaps someone whose quirky fabulousness has to grow on you. Recruitment has its limitations, unfortunately.

Is anyone heading down to Milledge by chance? Should be crazy later today as it always is. I've never been there on bid day, but from what my two older cousins have told me and from videos on youtube it's quite a scene!

Best of luck to everyone still alive in the UGA recruitment process! I will post later if/when I hear news about my cousin. But for now, I'm gonna hit the sack.

Did she not like her Pref Party invites or did she at least go to the parties?

good luck to all the PNMs for today. and hugs to those who are out. and prayers to all that they have found their home and their heart. It is difficult. I have learned so much about recruitment this week...throw everything you thought you knew out the window.

I know- every scenario in my head involves a poor outcome. Still nothing in my in box. Heading to work but will be checking throughout the day. What time do bids go out?

DDDMomma 08-15-2011 06:33 AM

Bids go out at 6pm. The girls hear before if they are not getting a bid...that happens in the morning, but I don't know when. A lot of nervous pnms going to their first day of classes!

wingsnhalos 08-15-2011 07:42 AM

They should move rush back where they get their bids a couple days before school starts. Everyone involved is exhausted and starting school. They did not do this when I went through recruitment.
