Of course, but I was just clarifying. What you said below made it sound like (to me, anyway) that if someone wants to be considered for DG colonization, they should not be participating in FR at all. Which is not the case.

I know what you meant, but I wanted to make sure others did as well.

Reread the sentence: should not be participating in formal recruitment while interviewingx with Delta Gamma...operative word being "while" - meaning simultaneously, at the same time. Before or after is OK....Not while.

Sorry for trying to be helpful. I just didn't want a confused PNM to think that they should withdraw NOW if they wanted any chance at DG (like it was an either/or scenario). The original question was about withdrawal, and my only clarification was "hey, go through the process and if you're not finding your home after that process, then interview with DG and give it a shot".

I should have stayed a lurker...

I didn't intend to come across as harsh...just that I did say "while" and I generally feel that people should be able to understand what that means. I say what I mean and mean what I say. (as a child, my father always got onto me for trying to back track on what I meant by telling me that he only knew what I said, not what I meant to say - so I do try to be crystal clear with what I say).

How does the snap bidding process work? Is this for girls who don't get matched with the houses they went to for pref?

Got it...even though most of the post above sounds like word vomit to me... :)

I just was trying to be really clear for those mamas and PNM's who are nervous/freaking out/unsure etc... They might see what you read and think "oh I need to drop out right now or I'll have no chance at DG." Since it's such a delicate process and tensions are high on BOTH sides, I want to make sure everyone's clear and calm. And I just hate being snarked at for trying to be nice and helpful.

Titchou 08-18-2011 06:23 PM

Not to be snarky myself but perhaps if the PNM doesn't understand what "while" means we might thereby discern why she is no longer participating in FR....

Yes...it happens Bid Day....if the chapters have room in quota. If they took quota but are below total, it is called Continuous Open Bidding (COB) or Continuous Open Recruitment (COR) and they can issue those bids at any time they wish.

cardinalnstraw 08-18-2011 06:54 PM

So it's only for girls who made it through the pref round? COB at my school was a designated time much later in the year and with these numbers going through I wasn't sure if there would be room left for those later.

No, its not just for PNMs that made it to pref. A chapter that doesn't make quota may offer a snap bid to any PNM who didn't receive a bid, either because she withdrew at anytime during recruitment or didn't match after preference. COB is for any chapter that is under total and happens after bids are issued and continues until the end of the school year and COB bids may be issued to any eligible woman.

Titchou 08-18-2011 07:14 PM

COB and snap bidding are two different things. Snap bidding is done on Bid Day only. COB/COR continues throughout the school year.

Thanks for clarifying!

I didn't think PNMs who withdrew were eligible for snaps?

Had ten invites for round 2. All of my top 5 were included.
Had six invites for today, I was cut by one I really wanted to get to know better, oh well I’m not a beauty queen. Another exhausting day.

Technically, anyone the chapter wants to give a bid to is eligible for snap bidding, whether she went thru formal recruitment or not. In actuality, that probably would never happen (secret MS info here) but it "could".

Quote from the NPC Manual of Information

If Preferential Bidding is used, women who indicate an Intentional
Single Preference and do not receive an invitation to membership are
eligible for Snap Bidding and Continuous Open Bidding, but are not
eligible for Quota Addition.
Resolved (1995), That a Potential New Member who withdraws from
the Fully Structured Recruitment process before the signing of her
membership acceptance shall be eligible for Snap Bidding and
Continuous Open Bidding.
