Some advice: See it before 10 PM because it is LONG and you will get tired! :p
I thought it was good and stuck to the book fairly well. I understand everything that was going on because I had read the series, but I think I might not have appreciated it as much or fully got as much, if I hadn't read it. The characters were ok. Good, not great, a bit bland. Lenny Kravitz and Stanley Tucci were pretty phenomenal though, I thought. Definitely see it if you like the books! I can't wait for the next one. |
^^ Agree, I read all three books whilst sick with flu a couple of weeks back, and finally got to the cinema last week, I loved it.
A guy I work with saw it yesterday, (he hasn't read the book), and he thought it was a little "Meh", his words "A Kiddie Version Of Battle Royale" |
There seems to be an over-the-top amount of hype surrounding this title. I might just have to read it. Hopefully it's not a disappointment.

Movie Sequel info
For those of you who saw the first movie:
http://insidemovies.ew.com/2012/04/1...catching-fire/ =/ Catching Fire was my favorite of the trilogy. |
I was afraid that might happen, considering the tight timeline Ross had to deal with. Honestly, I'm surprised Lionsgate isn't pushing back the release date to accommodate the schedule. Especially since it will be even more difficult for a new director to step into the franchise, pick up where THG left off, and do Catching Fire justice in the same time frame that Ross couldn't accept. I was really hoping they could work it out.

But look at the Twilight movies and the Harry Potter movies. They had consistent new directors. It didn't make the movies any less successful or appealing to audience members. My hope is truly that the script does the book justice and that the director does the script (and book) justice. I'm sure with the success of the movie that directors will be a bit more easy to pick from. On another note, I went onto Itunes and bought the original score yesterday. Very good. Rue's Farewell is still quite depressing. I can picture the scene in my mind. |
I agree. Catching Fire was my favorite also so I just hope it's done well. I left this movie feeling a little "eh." Honestly, I do feel like they stuck to the book pretty well given time constraints bc holy heck that was a long movie to sit through anyways. And I loved the fire costumes and also the casting I thought was good except for Peeta really, but I didn't like the President Snow stuff being continually thrown in when there could have been other things. But, I guess they need to add tie ins for people who don't read the books.

I didn't mind Peeta. In interviews Gary Ross had to get down on Jennifer and Josh because they developed more of a brother-sister relationship and he was like "dude, you're supposed to be attracted to each other". LOL. I left the movie actually thinking "okay ready for number 2" |
I just finished reading them.
Loved Catching Fire. Didn't like the last 1/3 of Mockingjay. It started out great, but toward the end too many things happened all at once. And, I like that it ends on a more positive note, but not when it only happens on the very last page. Like it was an afterthought. |

In other news, Francis Lawrence has been confirmed as the director for Catching Fire. Previous credits include 'I Am Legend' and 'Like Water for Elephants'. I'm excited to see what he does with it. |

I might need to reread the books before the movies come out. I read the whole trilogy last summer. |
But she was adamant against it because of the games and that wasn't an issue any longer.
