I'm still loving this thread - Hope everything goes well for you with SDT!!

Maybe I missed this, but why does SDT only do informal? Because they're newer, or just because they want to? Is that going to change in the future? It sounds like these women would be great during recruitment based on the way you are connecting with them :)

As I understand it...

They're a really small house, so Panhellenic offered them that option, and they took it, since, in the words of one of the sisters, "hair flipping isn't really [their] thing." who knows what will happen in the future, but I'm happy right now! :)

SDT at USC is a pretty new sorority (only a couple of years old) and they are significantly smaller than the rest due to that fact. It's my understanding that they don't do formal recruitment for two reasons. The first is that they simply don't have the numbers to handle the parties. The second is that they have a slightly more alternative vibe that shines in informal but does not work as well in formal. Even when they participated in formal they got most of their members through informal, so I could see why they would say "screw it". It would be expensive if the results weren't worth it.

The SDT house is gorgeous!

SDT also seems to nationally have an attitude that is less numbers focused than other orgs, mine included. Where most focus on staying "competitive" on formal recruitment they're more willing to arrange an alternative like this one.

Obviously the internal perception could be different, but that's how I see it. And I think it's a healthier attitude myself though I understand both sides.

OK, I freaking want to quit my sorority and join these girls. ;)

SDT does the same thing at other large campi, Purdue and Alabama are the ones that come to my mind. IMO this is the REAL "wave of the future."

^^^Agreed. I think they've been able to thrive at several big schools because of it (Bama, UGA, etc).

LOL at the hair flipping comment.

FWIW, SDT does formal here and they just won Diamond Chapter at their convention.

AAAAAAAH!!!!

This story does have a happy ending after all. :)

I was offered a bid tonight! :) (It's a secret, though) Bid night is Thursday, I believe.

Tonight we had dinner at a local restaurant, which was again, a lot of fun. Then we went back to the house for dessert. And then more Apples to Apples. :) And then just chatting. And then the president pulled me aside and offered me a bid! :) Ahhh kind of on top of the world right now. :) Beach day tomorrow!

Haha sorry this post was excessively smily-ed.
