I thought the "value" of recruitment stories was the informational value that they had for young women who were about to rush. I read some stories that were honest, interesting (except I admit for the three pages of Good Lucks) and informative. Then came what I term the "outing" (of the school, the sororities in question) and the "don't tell anything because you will be found out." The threads started to become more and more pc...and useless for a young woman trying to decode recruitment.
I think that the fantasy threads are a result of the two factions: future fiction writers and super sleuths who need to point out the error of their ways. And as someone who wrote, two or three years ago, a "brutally honest" story about rush in the time of anti semitism, feel free not to read it. But shall we mull over the possibilities of this whole section: Posting realtime truth (as the pnm sees it) the pnm is threatened with identity exposure and flamed. Post a thread right afterward and you are under scrutiny for the truthfulness if everything was perfect. (and rightly so) Post it years later, with a point (or without) and people are bored and/or suspicious. Has anyone noticed that in the old days at the end of the thread the writer would reveal the school and sometimes even the key to the code of names? And life as we knew it went on. |

I'm curious why her oft-banned friend (who probably told her that she was being discussed in this thread) still hasn't been banned in his latest incarnation after almost two months? |

Obviously when I go to bed early I miss the drama. And why hasn't Earp's little dingleberry been banned yet? |

I think some people are missing some valid points that were made here. The best point made was by Kevin. I think a serious NPC PNM already has her stuff together and would not even consider relying on some website for answers. The exact same is true for NPHC. Serious NPHC PNMs already know the school / chapter they want to join, have made the necessary contacts and understand the process without relying on a website. The serious NPC / NPHC PNMs don't need to be told what to do via GC or any other website. And really, what is wrong with 'If you don't like it, don't read it.' If you want to call people out, fine. But don't get so miffed if there are those of us who like to read a retro rush thread. |

Damn, why'd you all go and stick me in the basement, anyway? This thread was pretty funny, and I missed most of it!

In the end, it comes down to this:
There are some people on this site who are down right embarrassing when it comes to rush stories, and I have never cared two shits if that SMALL HANDFUL of embarrassing people get upset over me talking about them or not. But, that's not what the thread was about, it was merely mentioned at the end. The point was that these stories are becoming like GC fan fiction. It's not just current stories. It's no longer just a recounting of what happened. Now, it's, "I rushed 30 years ago and here's how I remember it." There's so much crap in them that it takes the fun of hearing someone's story away. And, the Barbie thread (genius parody, btw) reminded me of how full of shit most of these stories really are. GC is entertaining to me. And, when I get bored with the site, I feel free to voice my displeasure. (Just like anyone else on this site could do if they had the guts to put themselves out there... But, most just choose to sit back like cattle chewing their cud not wanting to upset the herd.) To those who dislike me-- I never have and never will care what your personal opinion of me is. So, if you think calling me names is helping you feel better about yourself and this site, by all means keep going. But, if we're really gonna go with taking the high road, perhaps using personal insults yourself might be a tad hypocritical. Honestly, it makes GC more fun for me when people get riled up over something I say. So, by all means, keep it coming. ;) Oh, and Blueangel, just so you know, the secret is out... You've been stalking people over at HRPL, too. Seems you JUST can't stop yourself. I heard that people were leaving there left and right because of it. I know it makes you feel better to try and rewrite what happened. So, if that brings some joy to your sad, little world, I'll just let you have it. |
