There's a local cruelty case going on now that draws some Vick comparisons all the time. It's pretty crazy:

http://www.ohio.com/news/break_news/52525812.html

The gist of it: a 20 year old pet store worker drowned 2 rabbits because they were injured and she felt that was "best for them." She then proceeded to take photos holding the 2 drenched, dead, animals, and post them on her MySpace account.

She was recently arraigned on animal cruelty charges, but I'm not sure how much time she'll serve (if any, I don't believe she has ever been in trouble with the law before this).

She should serve time for being a moronic idiot.

Animals are put to sleep through quick and relatively painless means. If she chose to take matters into her own hands, she shouldn't have celebrated her decision with photos and posting the photos on Myspace.

Dumb people really bother me.

I *heart* DrPhil.

ETA: To keep this thread on topic, I read that the Eagles fans gave Vick a warm welcome during Thursday night's preseason game. I'm somewhat surprised that there weren't any animal-rights demonstrations or anti-Vick posters; hopefully he's truly getting a second chance.

PETA are a bunch of loonies but they aren't the ones fighting this fight from what I see.

Since race was worked into this thread I do believe that, of the people who are holding this grievance against Vick, whites seem to be the ones who care about this. (I won't bother translating that to those of you who are thinking "well, I'm white and I don't care" or "not all whites care"---DUH). I have yet to see a nonwhite person who still gives a damn in person or in the media.

The nonwhites have more important issues to deal with like what Don Imus or Rush Limbaugh said yesterday.

When is Rush going to get a second chance on Monday Night Football?

Animal Abuse = Future Serial Killer

So, are you insinuating that whites only care about stupid shit while non-whites are "too smart" or "too busy" to give a damn about things that seem meaningless? In that case, maybe you should have read my earlier posts. You could consider me a non-white and I am still outraged about the whole situation.

Honestly, that story about the 17 year-old girl ruined my day / night and it made me sick to my stomach. The same people that think little of animal abuse are the same people that can't figure out why or how someone became a serial killer. Sure, maybe Vick won't become a serial killer (who knows?), but tha 17 year old girl is on her way! Today it is a small "helpless" animal...tomorrow it is a "helpless" toddler, elderly person, disabled person, homeless person, etc. I guess we shouldn't give a damn about people who abuse ANYONE or ANYTHING because it must always go back to race-right?

No. I am disgusted with ANYONE who finds it acceptable to torture and kill animals (regardless of race). The signs are there for people to see. Ted Bundy used to torture small animals. I wonder what happened to that guy...hmmm...OH WAIT! He became a SERIAL KILLER! That is just ONE example of a sick f*** starting out with small animals and working his way up to people.

You don't have to agree with PETA, but you should at least consider the message they are trying to convey. You may not like the delivery, but there is still something to be learned by them. I don't like the delivery of the messages Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson send, but I realize they warrant discussion regarding race relations. They use the media as their platform for important racial issues. Respect PETA in the same manner.

Whoa. Who said that?

Oh wait, no one.

Actually, he's being a dick by saying that non-whites are too busy protesting things like what Imus and others are talking about.

He's just another poster trying to get a rise out of people. I'm thinking another madmax incarnation.

Wait, I'm being a dick and you are confusing me with a guy or do you mean the guy who made that initial comment?

It upsets me that when you bring up feeling a certain way about certain issues, some people try and resort to saying it is an issue of race and that only certain races give a damn about specific issues. I don't care what race someone is-I care if he or is a complete idiot who doesn't know how to treat people/ animals.

Actually, some people insinuated (like that new guy) that it is only an issue for certain races while others think it is a waste of time. I don't care what color/ race someone is-you can still have an opinion about abuse. Just because I'm considered "non-white" does that mean that, like that new guy implied, I should not be concerned about this issue? You don't have to be black, white, yellow, magenta, whatever to have an issue with abuse (regardless of whether or not it was an animal).

That "new guy" of which you speak is a troll, more specifically, he's a sockpuppet for another troll who likes to race-bait (for lack of a better term).

As far as "respecting PETA," many people who support animal rights don't even do that. PETA has the reputation for being more concerned with publicity and shock tactics than animal rights (remember when they protested in front of the dog show dressed as Klansmen?); furthermore, their credibility is often shot to hell because of falsehoods that they have spread. They're not entirely against animal abuse either, since they want to have pit bulls and other "dangerous" dogs destroyed (they include Great Danes, which are among the most docile animals despite their size, in this hit list).

Most animal lovers respect the Humane Society and the ASPCA. Those are two organizations that have earned the respect and credbility. PETA? Ha!

DrPhil 09-01-2009 06:08 PM

eh...this thread is about Michael Vick. We began discussing how fans are reacting to him despite the fact that he has served his time.

So, again, I think people need to get over what he did; I think that of the people who are still holding this against Vick, it seems to be more whites, and that isn't just about animal cruelty; and PETA are a bunch of loonies.

That is not the same thing as saying that people shouldn't care about animal abuse. I care about animal abuse but am over Vick.

"buck2"

Creative.

Sounds like someone needs to get a job. Or at least take a creative writing course.

You should get a job so you can take care of your kids.

Which kids? I have a bunch all over the place, so it's hard to keep track.

Only criminals. It's because they're not white, ya know?
