EE-BO 09-20-2008 08:15 PM

50 laps in the pool today- mostly IM and kick drills. The masters swim coach leaves up routines daily for people who could not make practice to follow if they want. This one was far more demanding than it first appeared.

whiteandblack 09-20-2008 08:23 PM

tonight 100 sit-ups (including some pilates moves) and currently working on doing more than 10 military-style push-ups. tomorrow morn, I will walk for about an hour while adding lunges and those sumo crawls(?). this is a motivating thread.

aephi alum 09-20-2008 08:55 PM

There was a street fair in my city today, and one of the activities being offered was an architecture tour. Between the tour, walking around the street fair, and walking back and forth to our car (parked several blocks away), my husband and I did about two hours of light walking. Not really exercise, but it did get us up and off our butts.

However, the tour did end up at a local pub, where we had a couple of beers, thus undoing all the health benefits of our walk. :p

justabeachbrat 09-21-2008 01:26 AM

Started to walk the wood walkway around Big Bear Lake (Lake Big bear?).
About a half hour of that made me hungry, so it was off to dinner.

Benzgirl 09-21-2008 05:17 PM

Juvenile Diabetes Walk for the Cure. Followed by lifting weights.

EE-BO 09-21-2008 06:00 PM

1.33 mile run followed by 20 laps in the pool. Should have eaten more this morning- I wore out too soon.

ree-Xi 09-21-2008 06:21 PM

An hour on the treadmill, 20 minutes of pilates, and 20 minutes on the upper body machines. It felt awesome!

EE-BO 09-22-2008 10:01 PM

45 minutes of racquetball followed by a 45 minute full body workout. As a joke I challenged my trainer to do the whole workout just using one bench and make it tough. He sure did that. The last of many insane things I had to do was hold 20 pound barbells in my hands and standing on one leg on the bench step down to the ground with the other foot slowly on a 6 second count. I had to do this 80 times. But I am sore and happy- so life is good.

kchaptergphib 09-26-2008 01:37 AM

2 x 20 minute, steady-state pieces on the Erg (rowing machine).

For regular rowers, this isn't too much of a workout, but for someone like me, who never was a fan of the rowing machines, and hasn't been working out on one regularly in years, this was a tough workout. And now I am sore. I just keep telling myself that the more sore I am now, the less sore I will be after races this fall.:o

guitarak 09-26-2008 06:13 AM

leapt out of the way of the 10:27 tram

TPASIGEP 09-26-2008 01:59 PM

40 minutes on the elliptical, shoulders and abs - going to beat myself up tomorrow w/ RPM (spinning) and Body Pump.

Scandia 09-26-2008 08:16 PM

Walked from my workplace to the parking department several blocks and streets away- and back. Plus the shelving and stair climbing. Needless to say, when I got home I was starved and ate too many pita chips and hummus. And this kind of hummus was not even as good as the other types I have tried.

TPASIGEP 09-27-2008 05:24 PM

Couldn't bring myself to do the two classes...instead, did a back and triceps workout and a half hour on the bike.

On a side note...has anyone ever tried the P90X series?

christiangirl 09-27-2008 06:06 PM

Two hours of ballroom dancing today. :D My cha-cha is coming along nicely, though I get lost on which foot to be on easily. It all depends on how well the guy is leading...really separates the men from the boys.

jojapeach 09-27-2008 07:26 PM

1 hour of water aerobics this morning. I did community service at the Atlanta Food Bank later, and I'm counting that as exercise because I felt the burn while inspecting heavy food items and passing them to the packers.

aephi alum 09-27-2008 10:56 PM

20 minutes on the bike today. I strained my shoulder the other day, and my doc has advised me to take it easy with upper-body exercise, but I wanted to do something.

I took a ballroom dancing class for credit toward my P.E. requirement in college. I was kind of amused that such a fun activity counted as P.E. (Then again, sex burns calories too. ;) ) My husband (then-boyfriend) and I took the ballroom dancing class together, and at my sorority semi-formal that winter, we asked the DJ to play a waltz - and we were the only couple on the dance floor. We really showed off... haha :)

aggieAXO 09-27-2008 11:27 PM

17 times around the track at the high school down the street. Darn ACL festival has made Townlake too crowded and no parking so couldn't run down there today.

EE-BO 09-27-2008 11:30 PM

Been a very busy few days- but I have kept up with the exercise. Full body workout and racquetball on Thursday, plus 50 laps a day in the pool, on average, the other days of the week. Right now, exercise is my sole refuge from the insanity of work.

I hear ya. I needed to run a couple of errands today on 5th street in downtown and I decided to put them off to Monday figuring ACL- and the UT game- would be making a mess of things.

Awww, that sounds so fun!

Pardon my rant about today's workout...

So today was supposed to be a rowing "technique" day at practice, and I feel like we accomplished very little.
In rowing, the person that sits at the back of the boat, steers and commands the crew is called the coxswain or cox, and although they tend to be small, short, annoying little people, it is important to have one who knows what they're doing. They are steering a ~60 ft boat, and telling us what drills and workouts we're supposed to be doing. Also, these boats (new) are upwards of $25K, so you are absolutely not supposed to hit anything. No bumper boats on the water.
So, when you are hoping to have a day where you are focusing on form and technique, you NEED A COXSWAIN WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!
It wasn't really this coxswain's fault, as it was a novice rower who got thrown in the boat to cox this practice. But, I mean, she didn't even know what toggles to use to steer, or that she should be keeping the boat at a point (pointing direction) and always adjust accordingly.
Practice today was like, row 20 strokes, stop, re-adjust the boat so it's not pointing into the wall, get ready to row, go 15 more strokes, stop, etc.
I'd say the coaches, on a technique day like today, should have pulled her out of the boat, and put someone else in for cox. I would have volunteered. I fell like I accomplished very little today in the boat, anyway.

Okay, I think I'm done ranting. Yea rowing!

ThetaPrincess24 10-03-2008 01:34 PM

I was on the elliptical for 30 minutes and the treadmill for 30 minutes both at 12% grade/incline. I walked on the track for another 30 minutes and did 250 crunches...so I burned about 600 calories today at the gym!

Jill1228 10-04-2008 03:44 AM

Thursday night-yoga class
Friday-FIRM yoga DVD

Benzgirl 10-04-2008 12:41 PM

60 minutes on the recumbent bike, set on 8. Eight is pretty high for me. The monitor said it burned 414 calories, which means it was probably half that.

EE-BO 10-04-2008 12:58 PM

Been away from GC for a while since it has been super-busy, but working out has been my sanctuary. I have started doing a half-swim (20-25 laps) before racquetball and full body workouts, and on swim day I am aiming for 60 laps instead of 50. Last night did 2000 meters non-stop. Another 3 pounds lost since last post in this thread- so life is good.

ThetaPrincess24 10-04-2008 01:53 PM

i did 30 minutes on the elliptical at 12% incline and added resistance today of 2. 100 crunches. Full weight circuit rotation with three sets at each station. 100 crunches. Then I walked on the treadmill at 13% incline for 30 minutes, and then did 200 crunches. i'm ready for a nap.

starang21 10-04-2008 06:38 PM

ran 3.4 miles

cheerfulgreek 10-05-2008 11:33 PM

I did a lot of walking the past few days.

EE-BO 10-07-2008 09:50 PM

Rest day today. Yesterday was a triple whammy- 1000 meter swim, 45 minutes of racquetball and then a 45 minute full body burnout workout. Burnout workouts rock, but they sure hurt the next day.

christiangirl 10-08-2008 12:03 AM

Half hour of ice skating and 20 minutes on the elliptical. :)

LucyKKG 10-09-2008 12:33 AM

Arghhhh I want to run! I finally went to the health center to get my knee checked out, and I'm not supposed to run until further noticed. Maybe I'll just do some sit-ups or something...grumble grumble...

EE-BO 10-09-2008 01:13 AM

40 laps in the pool.

ThetaPrincess24 10-09-2008 12:27 PM

today i walked on the track for 30 minutes, was ont eh treadmill at incline for 30 minutes, the elliptical trainer with incline and resistance for 30 minutes....an hours worth of total body moderate weigth lifting, and three sets of 150 crunches. later i'll be chasing around my neighbors son at my youngest son's football game and then after the kids go to bed I may do an hour of yoga and/or more ab work. I'm not sure yet though.

aggieAXO 10-10-2008 12:02 AM

Yesterday and today I ran 3.4 miles in Schuylkill Park and ran up the Philadelphia Art Museum steps (aka the Rocky steps). I had a blast. I really liked Philly:D

aephi alum 10-14-2008 12:06 AM

Spent some time on the stationary bike, and did a short upper-body weight workout (as the bike does squat for your upper body).

christiangirl 10-14-2008 12:59 AM

I walked to campus today. I'm going to attempt to save gas by not driving, it's about a ten minute walk...and another ten going back because the paper I was turning in, I (of course) left in my apartment. I drove the second trip.

Kevlar281 11-28-2008 11:00 AM

An hour of Total Body Conditioning at the gym. It was fantastic.

Couldn't go yesterday to the gym because I was out of town.
