Thank you for the empathy, KSigkid!

I realize JoePa's an easy target, but yes, it does bring out the mama lion in me when people attack him.

Still very sad about the loss... :( :( :(

It said on tv that this is the first time in 18 years Iowa has beat a top 10 team. This is the equivalent of Michigan State or Michigan (I forget which school it was) getting beat by Appalachian. :o

The last time Iowa beat a top 10 team was 2004. Iowa was rated in the top 5 as recently as 2003. Jesus Christ - you seriously don't know much about football . . . Like Appy State? I mean, according to computer projections, Iowa is either a top-25 team or just outside - it's not an embarrassing loss for the Lions, on the road in tough weather conditions in a pretty tough place to play.

The only way in which it could be considered a "bad" loss was that Iowa tried to give them the game multiple times, and PSU just didn't close it out in the second half. That happens, and that's why it's so hard to go undefeated in modern college football in the 88-scholarship era.

Haha-No, you're right. I don't know much about football. In fact, that's why my boyfriend hates watching it with me because I ask too many questions. The only reason I said that is because that is what was on ESPN (when I watched with him the other night). It said that Iowa has not beat a top 10 team since 1990. Maybe I misunderstood what they were talking about but, I was pretty sure that was what was said. I don't claim to be some football fanatic who knows all the answers-so, please don't get too upset if my understanding regarding rules, regulations or specific times and dates isn't exactly top of the top.

They probably said "top 5" instead of "top 10" since clearly, the top 10 thing happened in 2004.

The important thing, though, has nothing to do with the specific stat you quoted - to infer that somehow losing to Iowa is the same as Michigan losing to Appalachian State is just crazy talk (remember the PSU Big Ten title from 2005? Iowa tied for the title in 2004. And 2002.). PSU was probably a little overrated at #3, and Iowa a little underrated at just outside the top 25, so it's really just a tough loss on a cold day. Nothing for PSU fans to be embarrassed about.

I'm thinking Texas Tech loses to OU and misses out on the BCS games because the BCS can only have two teams from the same conference. OU goes to the BCS title game by being the #2 team and the Fiesta Bowl gets a replacement pick and takes Texas over Tech because the Horns have a bigger fan base and are will draw better rankings.
I hope you're right because it would be such a shame for Texas to lose in the last second to Texas Tech, giving them their one loss - and still be shut out of a BCS bowl game! (same though for Tech and only having one loss to OU, but I've got to go for my horns!!)

Too bad the big 12 can only send 2 teams to a BCS bowl, because IMO, the 3 remaining are 3 of the best playing now...

I won't be upset to watch either an OU/Florida or a TT/UF game as the national championship (I just won't physically be there - oldest will though- for dang sure!!). I think either would be exciting - high scoring offenses, fast defenses, heisman caliber QB's, amazing receivers and backs. It could be a game for the ages, like the USC-Texas game.

I'm a connoissier of good football, so any matchup of one of the 3 remaining big 12 - Florida (or Alabama, but I don't think that's going to happen) will be great!

AGDLynn 11-15-2008 05:12 PM

GOOOO DAWGS!!!

Will both teams please lose the FL-SC game?:p

KSigkid 11-16-2008 09:58 PM

One of the cable providers was not showing the UConn-Syracuse game in CT yesterday. Now, I know Syracuse is terrible; but there's quite a rivalry there (stemming from basketball), and it's inexcusable for the game not to be shown in some parts of the state, no matter how big the mismatch.

KiwisRugby 11-16-2008 11:51 PM

I wonder why the Florida Gators weren't in that poll? I live in Tennessee and my family bleeds orange (except for me), but they at least have the sense to agree that it will most likely be Florida vs Tech in the championship game.

You mean the one at the top of the page? That was started well before the football season actually began. I think we all agree that it is nearly irrelevant now...

CrackerBarrel 11-22-2008 02:45 PM

Big game tonight. In all likelihood this is essentially the first of the national semifinals with the winner of the OU - TTech game probably playing the winner of Florida - Bama.

Benzgirl 11-22-2008 08:01 PM

Ole Miss over LSU????
I'm shocked.

 The Sooners whip Texas Tech????

I did not pick well this week. I can't get over the point spread in the TT-OU game. It's like the old OU teams from the 'Boz' era are back!

I was pretty sure this was going to come down to defense, since both offenses were well matched. It seems like they just couldn't get started.

This is better than I expected, but I did expect to win.

That was ages ago. The Rebs took the Bayou Bengals to the shed today. Looking with Florida like Ole Miss probably beat the national champs though.

WarEagle07 11-23-2008 09:07 AM

Ole Miss should be ranked after today. Even though they were inconsistent earlier in the season they have turned a corner and are now playing extremely well. I love to root for the underdogs so next week I am rooting for FSU over Florida, and Auburn (naturally) over 'Bama, and Arkansas over Oregon State.

BTW -

i started watching it. then i saw us fall apart. so i watched the jungle book instead.

i had HOPE that we could pull it off, but when i had hope, i thought they would be playing... well... better, like the usual tech.
I hope we can stay in the Top 10.

Lubbock is a sad sad town right now.

Kevin 11-23-2008 01:16 PM

Tech played a pathetic schedule with the exception of Texas and OSU.

Actually, Tech playing a pathetic schedule, winning some games they shouldn't win and then going down in flames is pretty "usual Tech" as far as I'm concerned :)

if we hadn't lost [miserably] last night i would have to disagree.
but yes. i agree, what i've been fearing all season to happen came to pass, and we got overly cocky leading to our demise. since we did get a lot of publicity, i hope the future recruiting classes can prove better adapted to bright lights [better than Harrell, who is a really good QB under normal circumstances]

but then again i'm from 'dallas'... where we've had the Cowboys and the Mavs choke under pressure... maybe thats why i'm not too phased.

srmom 11-24-2008 11:27 AM

I guess home field advantage really helps ;)

Tech losing their cool so badly in Norman was extremely telling! Playing at Tech, with their scary fans (especially that guy that rings the bell - looks like a psycho!!) was a huge advantage to them. And, OU's record in Norman of 59-2 pretty much tells the tale.

Texas beating OU by 10 points on neutral territory should count for something, right?

Other factors to consider if I were voting in the polls (I am biased though ;))

Both TTU and OU had 2 weeks to prepare for each other, whereas Texas had 1 week to prepare for TT after coming off 3 weeks in a row (murderer's row) of tough games- Missouri, Oklahoma and OU.

Besides the week off, both Tech and OU had cream puff games leading into this game - thus having time to rest and recuperate injured players (dislocated elbows!).

Texas beating OU on a neutral field would have much more relevance if it happened a week ago! Of course, if that poor guy had caught the intereception, this would all be moot. :(

Oh well, sour grapes on my part, I was hoping to go to Miami and cheer for either one of my kid's schools!! I'll just be watching on TV now, but both boys are heading to their respective BCS bowl games - one the nat'l championship (provided UF beats bama), one an at large...

If you're going to continue to put Texas ahead of OU because they beat OU, then you're going to have to continue to put TTU ahead of UT.

I agree. I think it might just come down to the weak-az OOC schedule UT played as compared to OU, who trounced probable Big-East Champion Cincinnati (when they had their best QB) and TCU.

If UT doesn't make it into the Big XII CCG, then I think they still end up with an at-large selection in a BCS Bowl. They bring a HUGE TV audience. Maybe UT makes it to the Fiesta where they will depants Utah?

The only counter I can come up with to that are my reasons stated above - plus, UT lost to TTU in the final second, after staging a come from behind drive from inside the 10 yard line - AT TTU, which has incredible fans and home field advantage - I noticed they called holding on TT's offensive line a bit more in Norman than in Lubbock. ;)

Also, in terms of how the game was won and lost - TTU beat UT by one last second score, whereas OU basically beat TTU in the 1st quarter. They could have been playing their waterboys by the 4th quarter! LOL!!

But Tex-ass only beat OU by 10 points (neutral field my ass, it is in Texas, that ain't neutral.) (And some of the calls in that game were questionable also, if you're going to say that the refs in the OU-Tech game were bad, the ones at OU-Tex-ass were worse.)

Tech only beat Texas by 6 points.

OU TROUNCED TECH by 44 points. There is absolutely no reason that Texas should be ranked above OU.

The last paragraph of your post is exactly the reasoning that I see. Tex-ass and Tech are even teams, the game was decided at the end. OU is vastly superior, since we won the game in the first half (unanswered at that point.) Ergo, Tex-ass ranking should be down there with Tech.

srmom 11-24-2008 03:43 PM

Klassy, kstar...

Why the intense UT hate? By saying Tex-@** repeatedly, it only shows that you are posting in an @** like fashion.

You're probably one of those people who does the upside down horns at every game y'all play.

I never get that - when OU is playing OSU next week, you'll see people from both sides doing the upside down horn thing, even though the Texas game is long gone for both of them.

It happens all over the big 12 - could it be intense ENVY? I know that Green Eyed Monster makes people do some KRAAAZY things!

All that being said - I think OU should go to the national championship. At this time, they look to be the best of the Big 12. Just as Florida has been playing lights out football since their loss to Ole Miss, OU has been playing amazingly well since their loss to UT.

I will just be rooting intensely for the Gators!! And, fans like you, who show no Klass, make me want the score to be as lopsided as the TTU - OU one, only in the Gators favor.

Yes, I call tu Tex-ass, always have, always will, because the Longhorn fans are some of the most disgusting in the Big XII, save Colorado. (And that is because they are drunk, what is your excuse?) Every year, I find that OU students and fans have had their cars vandalized while at OU-Tex-ass, yet, I never hear of mass vandalization on the cars of the other side.

Btw, classy and crazy are spelt with a c, not a k. Your spelling gives you away as an obvious Tex-ass grad.

Also, no, I don't have upside down horns at every game, just two all year. OU-Tex-ass and the Aggie game

Added: I find it infinitely more uncouth to root for an SEC team than the Big XII team, I always root for the Big XII teams, save when they are playing OU.

Honestly, what's your deal? If the people on this site bother you so greatly, then why post? You come into every thread and lob insults at anyone who dares disagree with you.

Also, I'm not sure you should be insulting the education of Texas grads. Unless I've missed it, I didn't see where you mentioned your Ivy League degree anywhere...

Haha, no need. We all know that the rantings of one person don't represent the feelings of a whole school, let alone a whole state. I've met some extremely nice people from Oklahoma.

Kevin 11-24-2008 04:55 PM

Amen to that.

At any rate, srmom, if Texas doesn't make the Big XII CCG, and I really hope they don't :), I'd love to see a Fiesta with Texas beating USC. I think that'd be the sort of statement game the Big XII needs. The Texas secondary is coming along quite nicely (missed intereceptions and whiffs on Crabtree excepted) -- and that spells trouble for Sanchez who seemingly can't hit the broad side of a barn.

As long as Oklahoma takes care of business against UF/Bama, it'll be clear to the nation as to which conference plays the best foodball (at least this year).

srmom 11-24-2008 05:19 PM

Wow, I just read that other thread!

After this post, I'm bowing out of any reparte' with kstar due to the fact that some of those posts - such as the one that disparagingly changed the name of a poster to a nasty one - literally made me blush.

Kstar,

You mention disgusting fans - you exhibit every characteristic of a disgusting fan, down to the cursing and name calling. UGGH - NO CLASS!

I certainly know how to spell; do you know what alliteration is? I was playfully using it in my last post. (quick, go look it up)

I did not go to Texas, my son does. My other son goes to Florida, hence my reason for rooting for the Gators. GO GATORS!!

You purport yourself to be a "O.U. sorority girl" in other posts on this board. I have to say I am shocked. I know some lovely young women who are in sororities at OU, and it alarms me to think you are representative of others that are up there.

MY WORD! The depths that some will go to put down others based on football rivalries. It certainly brings out the absolute worst in some.

Class is class, and those who don't exhibit it do not deserve continued conversation.

srmom 11-24-2008 05:24 PM

Kevin, no need to apologize!

I would love to see a rematch of UT and USC also. If Texas convincingly won the game, it might get some of the rabid USC fans to settle down!

I also believe that this year was somewhat of a rebuilding year, with the young defense and new defensive coordinator, who I think has done wonders with what he had to work with.

There's always next year!!

Actually, alliteration has to do with sounding alike, not being spelled with the same beginning consonant. For instance, freaky phone is alliteration, however, krazy kstar is just bad spelling.

You call me a disgusting fan, I say tu fans are the disgusting ones. Sure, in heated moments, such as 4 years ago, I've called names. No denying that, and no denying that it was rude. However, unlike most tu fans, I've never thrown things at opposing teams/fans, nor have I maliciously destroyed their property. Cursing and name calling might be crass, but in cooler moments, amended. Cursing and name calling doesn't make someone a disgusting fan; a heavily emotionally invested one, perhaps, but not a bad fan.

So I called someone a name 4 years ago, then apologized for it. Big whoop. I'm sure you've done worse.
