My daughter had too many favorites to name, it wouldn't be fair. If this was gymnastics then most of the sororities would have been about .01-.05 points apart on the favorite scale. These sororities must have done an amazing job at presenting themselves throughout this process because this was a very close race. My advice to girls who rush would be to truly just be yourself, don't stress over gpa or activities or anything. Keep an open mind, don't pre-judge houses based on hearsay. An opinion is just that, an opinion which is colored by personal experience and bias.

AuburnMom, congratualtions to you, "Kate" and DG!
WarEagle07, congratulations to you, to your daughter and DZ! To both, can we at least know which other sororities were *almost* lucky enough to pledge them? (where they preffed) |

Congrats to all!
Okay I am back to my computer! While I received your notes on my phone-- which was great , Auburnmom you killed me yesterday with just the Ireland-- I was excited and couldn't wait to hear which was the lucky house! ( okay, yes secretly I was hoping she became a Gamma Phi Beta, AND I'm just glad she is excited to get her first choice and a house she liked from the beginning. I was so happy for "Kate" and it sounded like she had a good experience. Congratulations to you and to WarEaglemom and daughter! One question Auburn mom ( you can PM me privately if you want) I'd love to know who Austria was it was just curiosity on my part and it sounded as if she really enjoyed her experience there. It is nice to hear about her positive outlook.
Congratulations to all the houses on sharing the greek system with these women! While it will never be a perfect recruitment system it continues to improve and evolve. Thank you to all the women here, this was fun to have involvement by so many greek and non greek women. End note: my daughter is back at school ( College) -- last night she asked me if I had heard which house " Kate" had pledged and WarEagle'sdaughter. I thought you might all like to know " Kate" is now famous on the West coast! |
Colour me impressed, a girl from a town two over from me joined KKG. My jaw seriously dropped.

Just an update from this since I've now spoken to the girls and not just their sisters.. "Susie" got a bid from Delta Delta Delta "Jane" got a bid from Gamma Phi Beta "Beth" got a bid from Alpha Omicron Pi All three girls recieved bids from their first choices! Susie is incredibly excited and is already coming up with new color schemes for her bedding/decor to match her new home. haha! Jane said she cried like a baby when she opened up her bid card! Everyone thought she was upset, but really she was just happy. She'll cry at a darn commerial (seen her do it...) so we got a laugh out of it. Beth said she's gotten so many gifts from friends and family that her room looks like a shrine to AOPi! But she doesn't mind that one bit ;) ----- I ordered each of them something small, they should get it soon! |
sollioquy,
so glad to hear that your girls are over the moon with their new sisters. how nice that you included quotes from each girl. hooray for fall rush! |

Wahoo!:p:D |
I wanted to let everyone know that Wareagle07 Daughter is having a blast as a DZ! She has made a new best friend with a member of her pledge class, and has even done her first DZ philanthropy (6:45am on a Sat. morning!). I think that it is OK to share her prefs with you at this time since I don't believe that any harm can be done. In order of preference the list went: DZ, DG, DDD. Something about those D's seems to have caught her fancy!
I have noted some things that have changed since I rushed in the mid-eighties: 1. We didn't get a pledge retreat. 2. We didn't get awesome Vera Bradley bags filled with handbooks and goodies. We got t-shirts and hugs! 3. We weren't required to do philanthropy. 4. Girls these days are gorgeous! Crest Whitestrips, foiled highlights, french manicures, and acutane didn't exist back in the day! Anyways, classes have begun and she seems to like all of her classes, so with 16 credit hours I hope that she is able to balance everything. Thanks to everyone for the support and the kudos! Wareagle07 Daughter will make you proud! |
Soliliquy,
I'm glad to hear your friend Beth joined the AOII family. She'll love it! I'm sure her room looks great in all red! |
So... I arrived at the thread late and just now made my way through it all... 21 pages and counting.
Congrats to everyone and their new "homes"! I am so thankful that I didn't have this kind of recruitment... too much stress for me. But I would have loved the Vera bags at the end of the day. |
I would love to have an update on how ALL of the girls involved in this thread are doing at this point. How is life for Elainbenice's sister, and how did things turn out for Mom2 and what about SECmom and Auburn Mom? Any updates Carnation?
|
I know that some of the PNMs signed up for open rush but haven't heard anything. You guys let us know how you or your daughters are doing! :)
|
Kate: Welcome to DG!!!!

Hello
Well, I saw that Carnation was wanting an update, I had popped in here to send a private message to someone .. My Daughter is doing marvelously at Auburn! She LOVES it there! She has averages so far of All As and one High B...so we can say that Her classes are going very smoothly with the acception of History - her professor doesn't use a book and is teaching some BIZARRE stuff (in my opinion). That is the class she has the B in. Although it is a High B. Biology has been a challenge for her, more studying than she was used to in High School, however, she still loves it and has an A average there with all her lab work too. She is studying quite a bit, hopefully enough. She doesn't go out that much during the week and since she really doesn't "party" like some students do she is getting plenty of rest and enjoying life at AU. I think she has only been to one fraternity party so far. She loves the games and the rolling of toomer's corners. She has plans on joining one of the bands this spring (perhaps symphony or woodwind ensemble or something) and is considering marching next Fall. She works a part time job on campus and is finding that a pleasure as well. Her boss is a very nice lady (she says). She hasn't gained the Freshman 15 (yet) because she walks so much. She does have her car down there now but mainly uses it for trips to shop, eat out, Church type activities, or to visit a friend at some apartments. She is actively involved in one of the large Churchs there, goes to about 3 or 4 different things there (including Sunday mornings). She has joined several clubs or organizations; a math one, a science one, republicans, a "pre-med" type majors club, and a couple of the community service/missions type things ,and I think that is all. She got an invitation to join an honor society also. She is on the Aubie committee and is really getting a kick out of that and plans to join that again next Fall. She is on Mat Cats (wrestling Hostesses) and absolutely LOVES that! She has met some very nice girls in all these clubs (not to mention a few guys too I think although she doesn't talk that much to me about that!! LOL) She is having fun with Mat Cats learning all about wrestling (since they didn't have that at our local HS) this is also something that she wants to continue on with. She is growing and maturing in ways that I am proud of. I still miss her terribly and still have my minutes of difficulties "letting go". She has signed up for COB and hopefully she will get some invites from some of the sororities that she loved so much when she went through formal recruitment. She still has her "sorority money" (as we call it, enough for pledge fees, initiation, dues, etc) saved back just in case something should come up and she gets a bid from one of the ones that she wanted (there were mainly like 4 that she wanted the most, but about 5 others that she said she "could" see herself happy in as well). She is so well rounded, she just gets along with anyone. She has a lot of amazing character traits and abilities that make me very proud of her. I do still get tentatively afraid that she still spends too much time (in my opinion) on myspace, IM, email etc. with folks back home. There is so much dadgum immature "DRAMA" in High School and she still misses some of her underclassmen friends.. I will be thankful when she develops more friendships in college and forgets about some of the stuff back home! LOL I guess that will come along with time as she settles in more at Auburn and all. She has been working this week on her tentative schedule for next semester and just studying a lot as well as going to meetings and socials with the things she is involved in. We miss her, but we are going back down for Homecoming and the game and all. We have been to one game this fall (one of the "wrong" ones.. LOL) Well, I hope that everyone else's daughters are having great Freshman year experiences as well. Y'all take care , God Bless, and WAR EAGLE!!! |
So I take it that you are no longer having doubts about Auburn being a good fit for your daughter? If you had it to do over again, would you react differently to your daughter being cut from recruitment? Back in August, you caught a lot of criticism for your remarks regarding Auburn and your daughter and how you handled the whole situation. What advice would you give to parents of future PNM's?
|
mom, it sounds like your daughter in not only surviving at auburn, but thriving. great grades, life off of campus and getting involved with varied activities on campus. hopefully, when she comes back after christmas break, she will hear about some cob parties. if not, it sounds like she is doing everything right to set herself up for a competitive rush in the fall.
as to keeping in touch with her h.s. pals(and wishing that she was ready to move on) it will happen. my daughter(who is a sophomore in college) communicates less with her friends still in h.s. than she did last year. i think keeping in touch is a sort of safety valve until they feel established on their college campus. good luck to your daughter!! |
I agree with you FSUZeta. My daughter is a sophomore as well. She is home for Fall Break and is not even calling the few she still knows in HS. The separation happens.
|
HS friends
I , too, know what you mean. It's hard for the moms, because, their friends became like family. I miss them and really want them to get together, but they have moved on and so must I. I'm like Peter Pan ( I don't want to grow up).
Love, ZTA72:) |
Okay, perhaps I'm just still young and don't really get it or perhaps it's because I went to school with the same people from 1st grade through high school graduation, but why is it so wrong for someone in college to keep in touch with some of the friends they graduated high school with? I have plenty of friends in college and in my chapter, but I still keep in VERY close contact with 2 of my best friends I had in HS and in pretty close contact with another. Granted, there are many friends I had back then who I really don't talk to anymore. I guess I'm just not understanding why it's a bad thing to have a support system of friends at college and still have friends from your past as well.
|
i don't think that anyone said that it is wrong to stay in touch with high school friends. i have been graduated from hs for mucho years and still keep in touch with one dear friend weekly and a few others when the mood strikes.
i would venture to guess that "mom" is afraid that daughter is relying too heavily on her hs friends for social interaction and could get stuck in the high school mindset, not expanding her circle of friends and growing herself. i have seen classmates go off to the same college and not expand their circle of friends-they stay bunched up in the same group they ran around with in hs, doing the same things they did in hs. no personal growth there at all. |
bump for all of us waiting for AU Bid Day 2009!!!!
|
I'm still dying to hear what happened to Elaine's sister!!!!!:confused::confused::confused::eek:
|
Here's a good Auburn story to whet our appetites for recruitment! Auburn's is in just a little over a month! :)
