I dunno what the hell is up with my Dawgs. the UAB game should not have been close at all, especially not a 3 point game. We better wake up and get our shit together if we are gonna beat Florida next week!

The UT/Bama game killed me....5 OTs? Damn.

AU/LSU...I was really hoping Auburn would win......or that it would at least be a fun game to watch ! damn!

I hate to admit it, but I though OU is going to have a rough game on Saturday. Their linebackers are pretty banged up. I think they're looking 3-4 deep at the MLB position. This isn't good when you're facing Tatum Bell et al.

Colorado knew it this Saturday. Most of their yards came from short passes right over the middle (MLB-land). I'm pretty sure OSU will pay attention to that.

Okie State is probably the best balanced attack offense that OU will face all year.

I know, this is the coming game is the one that I'm most worried about this season... OSU and Texas Tech. have been making me worried lately.

We just have to hope.

Yah it has been a mix of cockyness and having some of the top starters like Gibson and Pollack hurt. I am sure they will be more cautious and hopefully the star starters are healty enough to play.

It always seems that LSU has one game a year when they blow the other team away......too bad it was my Tigers this year :( Like I've said on here before, Auburn only does well when people boo hoo them and think they aren't worth anything.

I turned off the Tenn Alabama game at half time because it was boring. 5 OT's? holy crap, it was like they figured out in the 4th quarter that they were playing a football game.

I wouldn't be too worried about Tech....We have the worst defense in the nation right now and even though it kills me to say this, OU will stomp us like they did to UT. Granted it is a home game for us and we tend to play better at home, i have a feeling it will be a blow out. :(

wreckingcrew 10-26-2003 07:14 PM

please, please God, can we beat Texas?

that's all i want, is to beat the whorns. Maybe to find some defense and some conisistency on offense.

but really all i want is to end the season upsetting the whorns.

we did it to OU last year, is that too much to ask for this year?

Ain't no one cocky here. I'm confident OU will pull it out, but I'm not predicting 65-13 over here.

I think OU will win by 14 at least. White is going to have a field day against that secondary and OU's front 4 are going to put the hurt on Josh Fields (who folds like a bad hand when pressured [see Nebraska]).

I just hope no one on either team ends up on the injured list in this game. I know it's going to be VERY physical.

AlphaSigOU 10-27-2003 12:30 AM

At least we have home field advantage... but that's no guarantee.

Wasn't 2 years ago..

I think the difference this year will be Jason White. Hybl was a good QB but honestly wasn't nearly as good a passer as White. You could also blame Mangino's dumb-a$$ playcalling in '01. Remember the fans actually booing the play calling?

Okie State never really has been a problem for OU in the past (the record is like 65-15 or something like that). I think normalcy will be attained again very soon.

Also, I heard an interesting stat the other day. OU is coming up on ND's record of weeks ranked #1 in the AP. ND is at 95, OU is now at 85 or so.

Future unknown for SDSU-USD rivalry
South Dakota football series second oldest in all of Division II
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

SIOUX FALLS - A college football rivalry more than a century old could end today when South Dakota State University meets the University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

SDSU's move to NCAA Division I status next year could end a football series that began in 1889 with a 6-6 tie and is the second-longest series among Division II opponents. The longest rivalry is North Dakota and North Dakota State, who played their 110th game last weekend. That series also is in doubt, since the Bison are moving up to Division I-AA next season and UND officials have yet to agree on a contract for further games.

''No one should assume this is the end,'' said Fred Oien, SDSU's athletic director. ''We've had our discussions and are trying to schedule for next year and the following years for contests, and there may be some middle ground somewhere. But as of now, we do not have a contract.''

Despite a proposal and counteroffer between the schools, they are not scheduled to meet again in football after today's game. No discussions are pending, and time is running out for them to schedule a meeting in 2004.

''I would sure like there to be a resolution to it,'' said Greg Redlin, USD's interim athletic director. ''The loss of a rivalry means we're losing something that means so much to so many South Dakotans. But by the same token, we're not going to unilaterally surrender to the terms offered up.''

When SDSU moves to Division I next year, it will be required to play 50 percent of its football games against Division I-A or I-AA opponents.

The Jackrabbits have not yet found a Division I conference. Oien said a spot or two a year on the football schedule would be reserved for Division II schools, adding that SDSU would prefer to keep its intrastate meetings with USD and Augustana.

Oien said SDSU has six or seven games verbally agreed upon for next season's schedule, including ''favorable discussions with Augustana.'' Redlin said there is only one spot left for the Coyotes in 2004 - the first game of the year.

SDSU's initial offer for future games involved football and men's and women's basketball.

Oien wanted the two universities to play each other for two years, with games to be held in Brookings and Sioux Falls. He said games in Vermillion would not be beneficial to SDSU because of the number of Division I road games that would be necessary to meet the NCAA requirements. It would make sense to play any games against lesser-division opponents in Brookings or at a neutral site.

USD refused to give up home games because of the home-field advantage and on-campus revenue from ticket sales. Redlin countered with a deal that would keep things the same as now, with games continuing to be played at both campuses.

John Stiegelmeier, SDSU's coach and a graduate of the school, said he thinks this is the last meeting in football.

''I think with the personality of the situation, the emotions of the situation, it's going to be tough to get together again, really,'' he said. ''I think the rivalry will always be there; it will always be heated. It's been like that for how many years? We've played football for over 100 years. It's almost awkward to think in those terms.''

USD coach John Austin, like Stiegelmeier, is an alumnus of the school where he coaches. Like Stiegelmeier, he grew up with the importance of the ''State-U'' rivalry.

''It's going to be a lot different without this game,'' said Austin, a Watertown native. ''It's a game I grew up with. It gets a lot of hype during the season with the kids and with the coaches, as well as the fans. Every year it's been a game with a lot of people sitting on both sides of the fence.''
SDSU won the final game 22-11. USD is my mom's alma mater and i start taking my teaching classes through them next spring.

Sad to see such a big rivalry in this state end.

You think OU will cover the spread? 17 points? The more I think about it, the more likely this is. The injured linebackers (Jackson and Armstrong) will both be back for this contest.

Okie State will be punished severely. I'm predicting the blowout this year in favor of Oklahoma.

Not only did we cover the spread more than twice... I accurately predicted the passing yardage...

More than making up for not covering the spread at CU... and the stupid world series...

Please God, let OU be gentle with us. Please? I mean, i know i asked for a win over Texas and that's still what i want, but please God, let Almighty Bob call the dogs off after 50.

I mean, you know as well as i that OU could put up more points on Saturday than their basketball team did against us, but please be merciful. We're good people. I know they might be upset because we ruined their chance at a MNC last year, but them spanking a lowly A&M team by 85 this year won't solve that.

So please God, let OU go easy on us and let us beat Texas.

That's all i want for Christmas......oh yeah, and a PS 2 also.

I hope Stoops answers your prayers.

I'll be there for this one.

It damned well may be a revenge situation though.

I'm taking my girlfriend to this one so she'll see what a real football game looks like!

She just got home today after going to an away game for Central OK in which we (#5 in division II) lost to an unranked team BIG.

I hope that OU hangs 50-80 points on the Ags this week.

I hope the ags bounce back and hang 50-80 on the whorns later in the season.

Red teams= good
orange teams = bad.

Yep, Lou HATES to play in the Rock!! Too bad, so sad.....it's gonna be a big party.

I do feel bad for the players though...having to recover by Thursday...but then again they shouldn't have let it go into OT. They had it won until like the 4th quarter I think.

As an Oklahoma (see, DA, I did it) fan, I would welcome a shot at the Trojans. They look like the only team out there that could even give OU a run for their money. I'm not saying that I think the Men of Troy would stand a chance...

I'm just saying it probably wouldn't be a 50 point margin of victory for the Sooners :D
