Actor Blair Underwood is joining the cast of the hit HBO Show ‘Sex and the City’. Blair will be romancing one of the ladies. I think it’s between Samantha and Miranda. He will appear in four episodes. Congratulations to Singer Deborah Cox she’s a mommy. Deborah gave birth to a baby boy earlier this month his name is Isiah. The fight is on for Barry White’s fortune. The Maestro of Love died on July 4th after a long illness and now the battle is on to see who is going to get paid. The women and kids in Barry’s life are going to have to go to court to get everything settled. In one corner there’s Barry’s second wife Glodean. Barry never divorced her despite having a couple of relationships during their marriage. Barry had four kids by his first wife Betty. He had one with Glodean and he adopted two of her kids. Barry also has a pre teen daughter by a woman he was seeing during his second marriage and he has a new infant a 7 week old baby girl Barrianna by his latest companion Katherine Denton. Glodean wants Katherine to take a DNA test to prove the baby is Barry’s. Glodean says how did she get pregnant if Barry was sick. Katherine proably got pregnant right before he had his stroke. Katherine has been left with no money and it looks like she will have to leave the house she shared with Barry because her name is not on the house. Sources say Glodean is waiting for court permission to kick her out. When Barry was living his kids got five thousand dollars a month to live on but when he died the money stopped. Now a court is going to have to sort out his finances. Simon Cowell of American Idol fame has just signed a new three year deal that will bring him back as one of the judges on American Idol. Simon AKA Mr. Mean is not known for biting his tongue and in a recent interview he says he would like to see better looking people audition this time. Simon says he is tired of ugly contestants he doesn’t want the show to become American Ugly Idol. :eek: R Kelly has a greatest hits Lp coming out on Sept. 9th it’s called The R in R&B Volume One. R Kelly is also going to be producing the next album from Tyreese. Mary Mary is coming out with a new LP next year. Mary Mary is sisters Erica and Tina Campbell. Erica is expecting her first child later this year. Samuel L Jackson graces the cover of the August edition of Ebony Magazine. Samuel talks about his enduring marriage to Actress Latanya Richardson, not winning an Oscar and why he works so hard. On August 8th check him out in the new S.W.A.T Movie. It’s based on the 70’s TV Show and it also stars LL Cool J and Colin Ferrell. Vicki Winans is also featured in the August issue. Vicki is a new woman with her weight loss. Who doesn’t have a George Foreman Grill in their home? George now wants to be known for sporting fabulous fashion. George is going to be the new spokesman for Casual Male. George is 6’4 , 250 pounds and he wants to represent the big guys. Georges clothing line is due out next year. He is getting a million dollars for the deal but that’s small change considering he made 137 million from the George foreman Grills. The publishers of Essence Magazine are coming out with a new Magazine geared towards young women. The magazine debuts next year and it will feature fashion and beauty with a fun edge. A memorial is being planned at an outdoor facility or park for the late Singer David Ruffin of The Temptations. The memorial will happen in his hometown Meridian, Mississippi. David died in Philadelphia after a drug overdose in 1991. David’s brother Quincy says he wants to honor him by starting a foundation that will steer young kids away from drugs. Congratulations to Boxer Evander Holyfield. Evander recently wed Singer Candy Smith. She is on his Real Deal Record Label. Evanders second marriage which was arranged by Religious Leader Benny Hinn was a disaster. Evander started fooling around and his wife and girlfriend were pregnant at the same time. Evander has a boxing bout on November 1st in Atlantic City. Let’s hope he doesn’t cheat on wife number three. The war of words continue between Jennifer Lopez and her Former Manager Benny Medina. Benny was fired as Jennifer’s manager last month. He is the man who is credited with making her a star. When J-Lo fired Benny she had no idea he would still get 20 percent of her income. Benny did all of her contracts so he made sure he would get his money from her films,clothing and perfume line. J-Lo was furious and she later sued him claiming he stole money from her. Benny says this is not true. J-lo continued to sling mud last week when she publicy blamed Benny for not getting the chance to appear on the cover of Vogue Magazine. In 1999 J-Lo did a 3 day photo shoot for the magazine but Vogue Editor Anna Wintour hated the pictures she thought she looked too trashy, too low class. Jennifer was crushed because she always wanted to be on the cover of Vogue Magazine. Jennifer feels she was blackballed by the magazine because top editors there hated Benny Medina. J-Lo’s Fiance Ben Affleck is reportedly urging her to settle her differences with Benny and buy out his contract. He is tired of the mudslinging. But is J-Lo willing to part with 25 million dollars to make him go away? |

Cuban Salsa Queen Celia Cruz Dies at 77
Jul 16, 6:54 PM EST Associated Press Celia Cruz, who went from singing in Havana nightclubs to become the "Queen of Salsa," died Wednesday, her publicist said. Cruz, who was 77, died of a brain tumor. She had surgery for the ailment in December but her health faltered. She died at her home in Fort Lee, N.J., according to her publicist, Blanca Lasalle. Ruben Blades, a frequent collaborator and friend, called Cruz a classy icon whose dynamic performances became her trademark. "Celia Cruz could take any song and make it unforgettable. She transcended the material," Blades told The Associated Press in a phone interview Wednesday night. "With Celia, even the most simple of songs became injected with her personality and her vigor." "I don't think you could hear anything she ever did and be indifferent," he said. Cruz studied to be a teacher in her native Havana, but was lured into show business when a relative entered her in a radio talent contest, which she won. She later studied music at the Havana Conservatory and performed at the world-famous Tropicana nightclub. In the 1950s, Cruz became famous with the legendary Afro-Cuban group La Sonora Matancera. She left Cuba after its 1959 revolution for the United States in 1960, and never returned. With her powerful voice and flamboyant stage shows, Cruz helped bring salsa music to a broad audience. "She became a symbol of quality and strength, and she became a symbol of Afro-Cuban music," Blades said. "You couldn't be a fan of Celia and not be a fan of Afro-Cuban music, because she was Afro-Cuban music." Cruz dazzled not only with her voice but also her personality. Always flashing a wide smile, the entertainer gave a highly energetic stage show, punctuated often by her trademark shout, "Azucar!" in the middle of a song. The word, which means sugar in Spanish, became her catch phrase after a waiter apparently asked her, to her surprise, if she wanted sugar in her coffee. Her alliance with fellow salsa star and "Mambo King" Tito Puente resulted in some of the biggest success in her career. The two recorded albums and regularly performed together, and they were considered legends of the genre. She was also a member of the Fania All-Stars, the Afro-Cuban music collective that recorded for the Fania record label in the 1970s, along with Blades and Willie Colon. She dazzled listeners with fiery songs such as "Quimbara." She recorded more than 70 albums and had more than a dozen Grammy nominations. She won best salsa album for "La Negra Tiene Tumbao" at last year's Latin Grammy Awards, and won the same award at this year's Grammy Awards. Among her other best-known recordings are "Yerberito Moreno" and "Que le Den Candela." Called the "Queen of Salsa" and the "diva of Latin song," Cruz remained energetic late into her career, popular with young audiences as well as old. At last year's Latin Grammys, she showed up wearing a frothy blue-and-white headpiece and a tight red dress and gave a hip-shaking performance. In 1987, she was honored with a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame, and several years later, the city of Miami gave Calle Ocho, the main street of its Cuban community, the honorary name of Celia Cruz Way. Cruz also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Smithsonian Institution and in 1994, President Clinton honored her with an award from the National Endowment for the Arts. The Recording Academy and Latin Recording Academy issued a statement Wednesday that read in part: "One of Latin music's most respected and most revered vocalists, Celia Cruz was an icon of salsa, tropical and Latin jazz music. ... Thank you, Celia, for teaching all of us that life should be lived with much 'Azucar!'" Pop and salsa singer Marc Anthony, a friend who recently paid tribute to Cruz at a gala concert, said in a statement: "We are witnessing the end of an era. She is simply irreplaceable and its just an honor to know that she was a part of my life." Blades said Cruz's music and the legacy she left behind would live on. "The real death begins when you forget," he said. "No one is going to forget Celia." |

By THERESA AGOVINO, AP Business Writer NEW YORK - The National Football League announced Wednesday that two companies behind an experimental impotence drug :eek: will become league sponsors. The deal is expected to be the beginning of a ferocious marketing war in territory that Viagra currently has to itself. Bayer Pharmaceuticals Corp. and GlaxoSmithKline, which expect their drug Levitra to be approved by the Food and Drug Administration (news - web sites) later this year, wouldn't say how much they are spending on the three-year sponsorship. They also declined to disclose details of the agreement. Published reports said the companies are spending $18 million. A source close to the deal who spoke on condition of anonymity said that figure was close to the actual amount of the deal. Each week, 120 million people watch the NFL. "This is a strategic opportunity for us. We will educate men on health issues," said Bayer spokeswoman Nancy Bryan. "Sexual health is a key issue." Eli Lilly & Co. and Icos Corp., are also expecting approval later this year for their impotence drug, Cialis. Currently, the impotence drug market is owned by Pfizer's Viagra. In 2001, Pfizer spent $101 million marketing Viagra, making it the fourth most heavily promoted drug in the country that year — and that was when it had the market all to itself. "We expect Pfizer will continue to market its product," said Glaxo spokesman Michael Fleming. "But we have a robust and exciting campaign." Prior to heading behind bars, the rapper shared his sentiments with New York's Daily News, saying, "Who wants to go to jail? Jail sucks, you get treated like an animal. I'll catch up on my reading, get in better physical shape, get some rest." Styles released his certified-gold solo debut, A Gangster And A Gentleman, in 2002. Is it any wonder then that MTV has settled on steamy Southern California for the 14th installment of its reality roommate series The Real World, going into production next month in San Diego. Casting is underway for seven strangers to shack up in the laidback coastal city, where they'll no doubt learn to surf, cruise the local bars, spend hours in the hot tub and clash over their closely monitored living situation. And with the newest MTV crib so close to the border can a tequila-fueled road trip be far behind? Viewers will have to wait until January 2004 for the salacious details when the Real World San Diego bows on the music network. It's the third time producers have picked California as a backdrop to the roomies drama; previous Cali spots include Los Angeles and San Francisco. Other installments have taken place in New York (both the first and 10th seasons), London, Miami, Boston, Seattle, Chicago, Hawaii, New Orleans, Las Vegas and most recently Paris. "San Diego, with its great beaches and easy-going lifestyle, has long been a hot destination for young people all over America," said Real World cocreator and executive producer Jon Murray in a statement Friday. "It only seemed natural that the Real World would make it home for a season." Here's hoping San Diego isn't too damn laidback for MTV's camera-friendly 18-25 year-olds. During a recent radio interview in New York Erykah was the talk of the town as she discussed her private life. Erykah is dating rapper Common and she says he is not the only guy she sleeps with. Erykah says she has three boyfriends and she also sleeps with her baby’s daddy, rapper Andre, from the group Outcast. Erykah says she has a lot of mind sex and she says she can reach orgasm during a conversation. Is she smoking too much weed or what? Brandy says her marriage to producer Robert Smith was a mistake and that’s why it didn’t last. (Afochic's sidenote: No isht Sherlock :rolleyes: ) Brandy says she was too young and she didn’t have what it takes. Brandy eloped with the producer almost two years and they have a one-year-old daughter, Sy’rae. Brandy says she is happy to be a mom but now she wants to find herself. Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown recently moved into their new home in Atlanta. The 5 bedroom, 5 bathroom home cost $1.3 million and it is set up with prison like security for their privacy. Whitney turns 40 next month. Congratulations to director John Singleton. John is getting a star next month on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. John is best known for the movies 2Fast2Furious, Boyz in the Hood, Poetic Justice and Rosewood. Orlando Jones is riding high with his late night talk show on FX. Orlando is the host of the Orlando Jones Show on FX at 11pm. Orlando is also known as the spokesperson for 7-Up and the movie Drumline. Orlando is currently dating actress Jennifer Love Hewitt. :eek: Tammi Terrell’s sister, Ludie Montgomery, is working on her autobiography with author Vicki Wright. Tammi Terrell was a Motown star that had numerous hits with Marvin Gaye (“Your Precious Love”, “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, “You’re All I Need To Get By”). Tammi died at the age of 24 following a brain disorder. Tammi also dated the late David Ruffin and the “Godfather of Soul” James Brown. Her life story should be fascinating. Since she died at such a young age, I wonder what would have happened to her if she lived? Friends say Marvin Gaye never recovered from her death. In a recent interview with TV Guide, Cedric The Entertainer talked about the cancellation of his show Cedric The Entertainer Presents. Cedric said he had the No.1 show in black households and that it was a slap in the face when Fox pulled the plug. Cedric said Fox wanted the show more diversified. The Fox network said they felt the show wasn’t the best showcase for his talents. The last remaining episodes of the show will air this fall. Next year look for Cedric at the movies with The Johnson Family Vacation. Curtis Mayfield’s widow, Atheida Mayfield, is suing her late husband’s longtime manager. Atheida is suing Marv Heiman who is in charge of Curtis’s estate. Atheida wants him removed from his posts because she says he is stealing millions of dollars from her and her family. Atheida says she is having tax problems and she cannot get any money from her late husbands estate. Curtis was the hit maker back in the day with the hits “Superfly”, the soundtrack for the movies Sparkle, Claudine and Let’s Do It Again. Curtis was also a member of the Impressions and they had numerous hits including: “We’re A Winner” and “I’m So Proud.” Curtis died in 1999, at the age of 57, nine years after he became a paraplegic. Curtis was involved in a tragic accident at an outdoor venue in Brooklyn when a light tower fell on him. Curtis left behind his widow and ten children from various relationships. What did Barry White leave in his will? “The Maestro” of love died earlier this month and his family was left high and dry. At the time of his death, Barry was still married to his estranged wife Glodean and his longtime companion Katherine Denton had just given birth to a baby girl, Barrianna. Glodean took care of the funeral arrangements and she had him cremated, per his request, and his ashes scattered out to sea. Michael and Jermaine Jackson and The Whispers were among those who were aboard the ship for the ceremony. Barry’s companion and infant daughter were not at the ceremony. Glodean wants Katherine to take a DNA test to prove that the child is Barry’s, but Katherine has refused. Did Barry leave her anything? Will Glodean get the lion’s share because he never divorced her? What will the 8 remaining children get? They were getting five thousand dollars a month when he was living. The reading of the will is supposed to happen this week. Actress Nia Long is set to join the cast the NBC show Third Watch. Nia is best known for her movies The Best Man and Love Jones. Nia is featured in the latest issue of Honey Magazine and she talks about her new life as the mother of a young toddler. Nia also talks about resuming her career and she talks about Oscar Winning Actress Halle Berry. Nia says Halle should use her position to open the door for other African American Actresses. Gerald Levert the movie star! The singing sensation will be joining Monique for the movie Beauty Shop that opens in theatres later this year. Gerald’s love life is also heating up. Gerald is currently dating singer/songwriter Kandi Burress of the group Escape. Kandi is known for writing about her personal life in her songs. She used to date one of the guys in the group Jagged Edge and the relationship did not end well. Well, Kandi went on to write “Bills, Bills, Bills” and “Bugaboo” for Destiny’s Child and “No Scrubs” for TLC. The Matrix Reloaded is coming out on DVD and VHS October 14th. The movie starring Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne and Jada Pinkett Smith will come out three weeks before the final trilogy of the Matrix hits the big screen The Matrix Revolution. |

The hip-hop mogul, who owns restaurants, designs clothing and acts, is interested in becoming a co-owner of his favorite basketball team, the New York Knicks. "I think I could do a good job," Combs told Howard Stern on his syndicated radio show Tuesday morning (July 22). "I think [they need] some new blood up in there. ... I'm not saying let's get rid of the owners, I'm saying put me down. Put me in the game ... because it's not going down right now. I wanna make sure we [are] gonna win." P. Diddy's spokesperson confirmed the rapper is "looking to petition for a stake" in the team, which is not for sale, but said it is not something he is pursuing aggressively. Either way, the Knicks, who finished with a disappointing 37-45 record last season, don't seem to be taking the rapper seriously. "It's not even worth commenting on," a spokesperson for the team said Tuesday. "I'm publicly puttin' it out there, because they're not taking my calls," Combs told Stern before critiquing the team's current ownership and management. "We're making rush decisions. I think we need a team that also reflects the spirit of the city. We need an aggressive, fast team that knows how to run." The Knicks, owned by Cablevision, are worth about $392 million, the second most valuable team in the NBA behind the Los Angeles Lakers, according to a Boston Herald story published last year. Forbes estimates P. Diddy to be worth about $250 million, although last week's release of the "Bad Boys II" soundtrack on his Bad Boy Records should up his earnings a bit. It's expected to debut at #1 with more than 300,000 copies sold, according to industry magazine Hits. |
I don't believe that story about Erykah. That sounds like nonsense. I would have to hear the radio show myself. I will do a search and get back on this one...
