p.s. i hate to be the one to tell you this, but toronto is a long way's off to the cup.

Alright, last night's game was fairly exciting, but this playoff season has been boring. I could barely hold my interest when the Leafs were in it, and I love the Leafs! If Ottawa doesn't win Game 7, I will certainly not be watching the finals. Honestly these playoffs have made me want a poke in the eye with a sharp stick, because that's more exciting.

P.S if people would read my post, they'd know that I know the Leafs are a long ways off from winning the Cup. But as a fan, I must dream and hope that they will win in my lifetime.

Canadian fans are dilusional. :p

Well...what a shitty way to lose. Everyone went insane after those back-to-back penalty kills and were sure of an overtime period. Geuss there's always next year.

steelepike 05-24-2003 08:24 AM

i agree, just to force a game 7 then make it so close. made it exciting though.

LeslieAGD 05-24-2003 04:07 PM

bcdphie, I could have told you that.

Well, NJ and Anaheim...hmm...I don't really know who'll take this series.

i think the dolphins have a good shot at it.

That may be, but the Ducks are captained by a Canadian, a Vancouverite no less!....Paul Kariya is from North Vancouver (a Carson Graham boy, actually!!)
So cheer for the Ducks, it's the next best thing.

True, but the city that actually gets to celebrate the victory will be in America :)

It's like when Boston tried to route for my Avalanche cause Ray Borque was on the team.

It's ok, you're still the second best hockey nation in the NHL :)

We are all cheering for Anaheim here because of Kariya - me especially since I happen to be a North Van native.

Side note: Paul went to highschool with my best friend's boyfriend.

Yes, the first being the Czech Republic, and/or perhaps Russia.

Here's an old story about Paul Kariya's sister...who is quite talented in hockey herself - she had to choose between grass hockey and ice hockey, and she picked grass hockey:

Now, she lives in Toronto, is a boxer and has a beauty shop!!

Since when did Kosovo and Moscow have NHL teams? lol jk

Honestly, I believe that game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals (when the two teams get that far) is basically one of the most exciting dramatic events in the sports world. When my Avs beat the Devils in Game 7 couple years back, it was completely tear jerking and enthralling. They felt safe with a 2-0 lead, then NJ scored late in the 2nd to set up a 3rd period for the ages.

BTW, I love it when Gay Thorne yells "SCORE!!!!!!!!!!!". That guy can make a meaningless regular season game sound important.

Kosovo is not in the Czech republic, it's not even a city, it's a nation/region thingy. Maybe you're thinking of Prague?

The Russians had their "Red Army" hockey team.

DeltaSigStan 06-09-2003 02:47 PM

But the Red Army isn't in the NHL.

Where do you think many Russian players who currently play in the NHL started out and got their experience?

DeltaSigStan 06-09-2003 03:40 PM

But I'm refering to countries that actually have NHL cities...........Canada is #2 in that area :)

If you are talking Nationalities though which I am, Canada is over and above the most represented, player-wise in the NHL.

My roommate has a theory that there should not be any hockey teams where there is not any naturally occurring ice...LOL

I believe that too ;) - then we would still have our Winterpeg Jets and not the Phoenix Coyotes...

woooo how about them devils, baby :)

CutiePie2000 06-09-2003 11:53 PM

Don't forget the Quebec Nordiques, Siobhan, who were reincarnated as the Colorado Avalanche.

While I am disappointed that the Ducks did not win the cup, I will be gracious and say "Congratulations to the NJ Devils".

At least they get snow in Colorado LOL.

Shame on you devils' fans for booing JS on winning the Conn Smythe - not cool at all.

Heck if the Nucks won the cup Gerry Bettman could win the Conn Smythe for all I care. :p

Anyways congrats Jersey - you better be out partying tonight and not at home rooting for the Nets

Jill1228 06-10-2003 12:38 AM

Amen to that!!!!!! JS SO deserved the Conn Smythe!

Take away my Soul Card, I am a black woman who loves hockey! :D

I was thinking the same thing. That was in very poor taste! At least the players were classy and clapped for him.

I feel bad for Mrs. Niedermayer. They kept showing her and she didn't look truly happy for Scott...I guess it's hard to be when your other son just lost. :(

Peaches-n-Cream 06-10-2003 02:07 PM

Yeah New Jersey Devils! :) :D

I remember when the Islanders won in the 90's. The team took the cup out to bars to celebrate and let people drink out of it. There were rumors that the cup was lost or stolen in a bar in Manhattan. I wouldn't be surprised. Maybe the Devils will take the cup out to celebrate this year. :D  :)

Yeah those rumors always crop up.... on a side note the Cup always ends up in Toronto during the summer (well at least the past 4 years) with one of the players. The players like to hang out with their buddies and go drinking with the Cup at places like the Beer Market or the Madison Ave Pub.... and Coors should never be put in the Cup, thats just offensive!

I can't believe Barret Jackman was chosen over Zetterberg for the Calder  Can't win them all, I guess

bcdphie 06-13-2003 03:06 PM

Yeah to Marcus Naslund for winning the Lester B. Pearson award - voted MVP by fellow hockey players

CC1GC 06-19-2003 06:20 PM

serves you right

Looks like teams have finally realized the folley of paying one player 8-9-10 mil. a yr.

http://www.canoe.ca/OttawaSports/os.os-06-19-0077.html

Fedorov recently rejected a five yr. $50 mil. contract...he might be sitting for awhile.
