Did you go to your prom?

Yep.

What did you wear? Colors?

I had a one strapped gown and the color was a pastel yellow. I still have it too!

Were you prom king/queen?

Since our prom was shared with another school, we did not have Prom King and Queen.

Did you go with someone special or friend?

I went with my then boyfriend. It was fun but I was soo sleepy when it was over.

What was your prom theme?

I can barely remember the day of the week let alone a theme from 5 years ago!

How much did your prom cost?

Lets see... prom dress was made for $60, shoes, $30, hair and nails $70. After party... Priceless!:p

Did you go to your prom?
Yes I went. It was May 2002.

What did you wear?
I wore this long gold dress with a major split up the front, my entire back was out. But what was keeping me in the dress where the straps that looked like golden ropes and they crisscrossed across my back and my front. The sides of my stomach were out too. The design of the dress almost reminded you of a coke bottle shape, or maybe that was just me. :)

Colors?
Our prom colors were lavender and silver.

Were you prom king/queen?
I ran for court but did not make it. But two of my bestfriends were on court which was wonderful.

Did you go with someone special or friend?
I went with a friend. The guy I was dating at the time, it was too short of notice for me to ask him. Plus the guy that was my friend had two jobs so he could pay for a lot more stuff. The only downfall to my plan was that I didn't want to dance with my friend and he was getting on my nerves. And that night I could tell he was sexually attracted to me. But I let him know from jump, HELL NO we weren't having sex.

What was your prom theme?
Drifting on a Memory. It was really pretty.

How much did your prom cost? Some proms now have ish prices?

I really don't remember how much the actual ticket costs because I didn't buy them. I remember my hair was like $50, my toes and fingers were like $52, and for MAc to do my makeup it was $25.

Did you go to your prom?
yup, but jr. prom was the GOOD one ;)

What did you wear? Colors?
a white dress with sheer lace overlay and colored crystal flowers at the first one, (i had to be demure) and a SCANDALOUS red Ungaro-ish numba at my Sr.

Were you prom king/queen?
no, prom king & queen wasn't really a big deal at my school.

Did you go with someone special or friend?
BOTH! My best friend hooked me up with her boyfriend's best friend, who was a cutie, and my "play cousin" and I went to each other's proms... so I had two dates. :)

What was your prom theme?
Whispers of the Orient

How much did your prom cost?
I think the tickets were like 60 per couple, but the hookup-date paid for my dinner and ticket and I paid for my cousin's.

my jr. prom was fuuuuuun! I didn't even have a date for my sr. prom, but I guess that's what I get for being greedy. But that time around I got to wear the sessy dress and just chill with my friends and be adventurous. So I had a good time all around :)

Yeah, it started years ago when some Kappa Alpha Psi members when to Galveston to celebrate their crossing. Then every year more and more people came out for the "Kappa Beach Party". It became really popular for the college age and hip hop crowd. Because of the type of (cough) activities that were going on down there I heard The Kappas wanted their name removed from the event. Now it is just called "Beach Party Weekend".

I had to stop reading the posts in here because they were bringing back too many BAD memories... My Sr. prom sucked because my date (my boyfriend at the time) IS an idiot... Jr. prom was fine because I went stag but the whole prom thing period is so overrated to me... Pardon me for being bitter... I'll hush now...

You are not alone..I didn't go to Jr. Prom but senior year was bad..my "boyfriend" was a bum and out of school but didn't have the $40 for the ticket..I was supposed to meet up with him after but he was no where to be found. And I left early and everything. What a bum!

It ain't really him I am trippin' on but the other dude. See, at first I thought this was a guy who went to prom in a feminine get up (could be wrong, or...) I began thinking of like the whole Prince situation back in the day with the whole cape and boots and femininity BUT really boiling over with a gang of freakiness, right? What closed the deal for me though was the friggin corsage and the poses. The real deal breaker however was the boyfriend next to the prissy one. They are hella bold. That I do know.

sigmadiva 05-26-2005 12:49 PM

I know this was mentioned on another thread, but the young lady who wore the Confederate flag-styled prom dress was just on the Larry Elder Show with her lawyer. Larry said she might win her case based on the violation of the first amendment. But, Larry tried to express to her that not everyone views the Confederate flag the same way, some see it as a symbol of repression, the young lady sees it as a symbol of her heritage. The young lady countered by saying that even Blacks fought along with Confederate soldiers in the Civil War.

Just a little background. A young White student in Tennessee designed her prom dress to look like the Confederate flag. She attends a predominately White hs (~90 % White). She felt that the dress was a way to show pride in her heritage.

Our prom tix alone were $100 but we were trying to do something different and had it at the Bellevue. Trust that was a lot of $$ for 1989! May have spent $500 all together i think.

*To McCoy Red
the Hotel is now the Park Hyatt @ the Bellevue. We had a blast in there and it was nice

Steeltrap 06-02-2005 05:20 PM

We are in the Last Days, it seems.

This stuff is rid-durn-diculous. I agree with Eclipse -- that money could be used for those babypeople's college funds. But it seems that their purruntz  aren't acting like purruntz.

preciousjeni 06-02-2005 06:00 PM

Please tell me that's an elementary school graduation and these kids are just a little spoiled. (Actually, the dresses are precious - and that plaid suit is cute as well.)

CrimsonTide4 06-02-2005 06:14 PM

Steeltrap, I said this was a sign of it being the last days as well.

I found out from another listserve that this is a daycare center in Baltimore.

These same kids grow up with no books in the house and the only reason the computer is there is to download music and movies.

I'm still SMH. And I feel you about the priorities. I grew up prior to computers, but there were tons of books, including the encyclopedia, in my home. And I had my library card, too.

Besides all the other's posts of the ridiculousness of it all
I am laughing that anyone who has spent time in B-more instantly recognized where they were from the houses in the background...no one needed to tell us where they were located..
that is too funny..

I was shocked when I saw the MD license plate. Having the location clarified, it all makes sense now and I'm not surprised.

The city of Baltimore is interesting to say the least. You should visit just for the experience. :D Outside of the city gets better reviews from me.

luminarysoul 06-08-2005 12:26 AM

:p

preciousjeni 06-08-2005 12:58 AM

Oh me too!

I had really weird experiences that I very hazily remember...

Junior Prom:

I remember wearing a maroon dress that showed a lot of cleavage. But, I was supposed to be going with an old friend of mine. The night of the dance, I was waiting for him to arrive and he never did. When I called his house, his parents were horrified because they looked on the calendar and realized that they had put down the wrong weekend! LOL! So, I never got to my junior prom.

However, to make up for it, a week later (the weekend that he THOUGHT was prom weekend), he took me out and spent upwards of $200 on me. And, this was just an old friend! I didn't even really talk to him after that because we went our separate ways.

D.O.M. (Debutantes of Monroe):

This was an invitation-only social event not associated with school. To be honest, I was SHOCKED that I got an invitation because it was one of those things that all the girls in the city would hope for, so people cried when they weren't invited each year. I wore this killer purple ballgown - again, made by my mom.

Senior Prom:

Did you go to your prom?

Yes

What did you wear? Colors?

Sparkly silver dress that my mom made

Were you prom king/queen?

No

Did you go with someone special or friend?

I feel like I had a date but I CAN'T REMEMBER! Oh my gracious! I get all the dances confused.

What was your prom theme?

I have no idea.

How much did your prom cost?

I believe we just had to be current with our senior dues and it was included. The dues covered a number of senior events but it was only like $50 each semester or something like that.

They should have spent less on ice and more on a bra with a lot more support because some of them youguns were sagging a bit much.
