This is not a rant directed at you, MaryPoppins, just in general... but I can't hold my tongue any longer: I'd like to know how NPC thinks that PNMs are going to be able to find the tweetchat when they consistently typo the @TheSororityLife handle, on both the @NPCWomen account and @TheSororityLife account itself.

I realize this is quite possibly a function of someone having pre-scheduled several tweets through a dashboard, so the wrong spelling got copy/pasted. But still, stuff like this (I'm talking 5 or 6 major misspellings every week on these accounts) is an embarrassment to all 26 organizations.

LOL!! I didn't go to a big football school (well, there was a football team, and everyone enjoyed the games, but we played smaller schools), but I've been to a Penn State game and it was fun! I made sure to wear my white down jacket so I could at least wear one of the school colors, but random winter coat color was also well represented!

No no! You didn't do anything wrong at all -- this was just a fuss about how often there are typos from whoever is managing the NPC twitter accounts.

Well, throwing a new wrinkle in the little black dress option. Last year, older girls told my daughter that many houses wear all black (and maybe all white) on pref night. I know my daughter had to buy one for this year's pref night. So wearing a black dress may make the PNM blend in with the actives. Realistically if the chapter has her to pref, surely they will not overlook her because of that, but we were told to be aware of that. Many of my daughter's friends (and my daughter) wore neutral dresses. My daughter chose to wore a taupe dress she had worn to homecoming a year or so earlier.

HottyToddy1 07-30-2014 07:39 PM

Thanks for all the advise she has decided to stick with her original dress but we did buy a really cute LBD today that she can wear to something else. Moving in in less than a month. We are all so excited!

OldOleMiss 07-31-2014 07:14 AM

It's always good to have choices :-) and you can NEVER go wrong with having an LBD hanging in your closet-- it will get lots of wear…. so excited for you guys--

MU2Driver 08-01-2014 08:34 AM

At midnight last night, my Gamma Chi DD deactivated her Facebook page, and we spent yesterday taking her letters off her car and sorting out the 90% of her t-shirts that she won't be wearing for the next couple of months. Recruitment 2014 is officially getting real!

Low D Flat 08-01-2014 09:17 AM

A chapter has put up their own what-to-wear page...I wasn't expecting the jumpsuit, but what do we old people know?

You know all that talk about "the 1%"? It has nothing to do with economic status. It is the population who can wear jumpsuits past the age of 8.

That white dress on skit day is making me hella nervous.

ADPiEE 08-01-2014 09:33 AM

I've noticed jumpsuits and rompers making a comeback too. Seems kind of retro and I'd be hesitant for pref but I'm sure some fashion savvy girls could pull it off with the right accessories. I still think I'd recommend a dress.

Yesterday my cousin posted a #tbt pic on FB from 1986, where she had on a jumpsuit, which she said are now "in" again, and that was the first I was hearing of it. So, yeah, apparently, it's true.

33girl 08-01-2014 09:43 AM

Oh, I dig jumpsuits hardcore, don't get me wrong. It's just that I ceased to have a body that looks good in one a loooooong time ago.

My six year old is currently rocking the romper look. SO CUTE. I would look like the Michelin man.

TXGreekMom 08-01-2014 10:44 AM

My PNM loves the rompers, but she can pull them off. She's too short for the jumpsuits.

33girl, I'm with you on the white dress.

OldOleMiss 08-01-2014 11:09 AM

oooh I LOOOOVE! the Jumpsuit-- so retro chic :-) I bought one several years ago in Paris because the sales girl talked me into it-- it sat in my closet for 2 years because I was scared to "start the trend" in the US--- I was brave enough to "bust it out" this spring for a cocktail party… I have since bought 2 more-- soooo comfortable and effortless!

OldOleMiss 08-01-2014 11:14 AM

and no- the irony is not lost on me that I wore a Laura Ashley "bubble romper" to ice water round 25 years ago :-)

PNM's are so lucky they are given T-shirts these days….

HQWest 08-01-2014 12:38 PM

I wore a sugar pink jumpsuit to go Greek back in the day. My grandmother bought it for me in California. It definately made a statement - not sure what that statement wad
LOL

Exactly!

Sciencewoman 08-01-2014 08:03 PM

Or a shower wrap with sleeves. My husband says I'm being mean, but that dress really isn't a good choice for recruitment. Too much potential for a wardrobe malfunction.

Hearttoheart 08-01-2014 10:24 PM

WHITE AFTER LABOR DAY???? My oh my, what is the world coming to? A white jumpsuit is best left if the closet after Labor Day! The white dress should also be carefully stored until next summer.

My grandmother would be rolling in her grave throughout rush and would probably haunt me for the rest of my life if I allowed my daughter to wear that!

Other schools get away with white because their recruitment is before Labor Day. But with ole miss having deferred recruitment, somebody needs to give these girls a lesson in fashion.

AGDee 08-01-2014 10:37 PM

It seems like the white before Labor Day thing makes sense up here in the north, because you don't want to get lost in the snow, but down south it seems like as long as it is over 80 degrees, white should be ok.

The White Shirt looks scary. Very scary.

I was rocking a jumpsuit the night I met my second husband. It was baggy too- like Hammertime pants- with a high low hem- higher on the outsides. It was my favorite outfit at the time and apparently it looked good on me since he ended up proposing. Now though? No way.

Jumpsuits never stay in style long because it is so incredibly inconvenient to use the rest room when dressed in a jump suit.

Right. Labor Day is the old standby, but what it really comes down to is "don't wear white in the snow". They don't have snow. Who cares?

Titchou 08-02-2014 07:23 AM

And not till after Easter - even if Easter isn't until mid April - NO WHITE outside of these times...clutching my pearls at the very thought of it!

33girl 08-02-2014 09:24 AM

I think that since rush is deferred, the white rules are too. And I'm a stickler for that stuff.

MaryPoppins 08-02-2014 10:03 AM

Nope, I'm not making my grandmother turn up dirt in Tallahatchie County. No White after August 31 this year. Even my seven year old now understands.

Sweetie - stay out of the deep South. You know not whereof you speak. NO WHITE until Easter nor after Labor Day....

From the Mrasek post:

Potential new members and the sororities use values-based criteria to make membership decisions.
Seems like this could be rephrased so that it is clearly expressing an ideal rather than making a purported statement of fact about what's going on in the minds of 100,000 18-year-old PNMs.

What about white shorts? I thought those were the cutest of the sample first round options. The cut-offs? No.

All of the skit round options are quite summery, including the colors. However, even if the white dress was in a different color, it still wouldn't be a good choice. The member is darling, but that dress just isn't a flattering style.

Oh yes. The ladies at my chapter up here wear white dresses for second rounds, which is ON Labor Day. I then tell them to put those white dresses away and not to bring them out until Memorial Day. They might not listen to me, but I do try. Even this Northerner follows her White Rules!

(Sorry to continue white clothing tangent)

AGDee 08-02-2014 01:00 PM

I follow the white rules also (and it is Memorial day here), except for Initiation whites, of course. It just seems like the South would have a longer "white" period than we do.

I am thinking maybe of looking at rush as a separate country/time period of sorts, floating against the regular calendar, and if the sillypantses didn't make it deferred it would be a moot point. :) Trust me, if those girls step outside the campus limits, my pearls will be clutched as well.

My sources do not know. In fact they said it had not been mentioned and they wondered if it would be coming out at all. OleMissGlitter, have you heard anything?
