Lawgal- while I would love for every woman to have been as lucky as me to be a Gamma Phi Beta. I also support our panhellenic sisters and want each woman to find her home, as I did mine!

It's a great day to be a Gamma Phi Beta! And it's a great day to be Greek! congratulations to all of the ladies! And thanks to AuburnDad for starting this thread:D

Quota?

I'm a little confused looking at the list - a poster in another thread said quota was 57, but the numbers seem to range from 54 to 70+, with multiple chapters under 57. Is quota actually lower, and these are all quota additions?

carnation 08-14-2010 02:00 PM

I just got a phone call from a sister who was at Auburn this week and she said that she was told by one person that quota was 53, by another that it was 58. Pi Phi got 60 angels!:)

Congratulations to all the new members, moms, and dads! GC Auburn parents, give yourselves pats on the back for making it through a really rough week. God bless you all!!!!

dixie girl 08-14-2010 02:11 PM

Congrats to all the girls! My daughter is now a proud new member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. I was hoping she would end up at my sorority, but she chose what was right for her!

Quotas were determined by the total number of members in the sorority. If a sorority has girls that have dropped out, left school, gotten married etc....then the chapter is allowed to "fill" those spots with new members. It helps keep the chapters even and gives more girls a chance to pledge.

33girl 08-14-2010 02:14 PM

no, not really.

Filling those spots is part of bidding up to chapter total. It has nothing to do with quota - once set, quota is the same for every group, regardless of how many members they have. If they have quota additions, that's a courtesy to the PNMs, not to the sororities.

IrishLake 08-14-2010 02:15 PM

Congrats to all the new Greek ladies!

Also, a warm welcome to Kappa Alpha Theta to "Emma," AuburnDad!!!!!

I hope AUmom2010 comes back to tell us some good news about her daughter...

Your sorority might have used "bed quotas" at the time you were a member. But that is very uncommon these days and not in place at Auburn now.

carnation 08-14-2010 02:24 PM

If her chapter had bed quotas, she wasn't at Auburn! Maybe Arkansas.....

Yeah I don't know history well enough or what area of the country she's from. I just know from the thread it's not present at this place at this time.

KKGCaroline 08-14-2010 02:51 PM

Congratulations to all the Girls @ Auburn, and massive well done for all the families that have helped them through this really tough time!!!!!

phimusam 08-14-2010 03:35 PM

I see 57 as the low number.

Miriverite 08-14-2010 03:52 PM

Congrats to all the new members!
Special shoutout to BSCAXOalum's PNM, who was able to join our lovely sisterhood of Alpha Chi Omega =)

I think about the only school left that actually uses bed quotas is Indiana University. My cousin's daughter (a Zeta legacy) is going there, but I don't know if she's rushing or not.

I wonder if there are any others. I'm sure there's a thread on that.

Thank you so much, IrishLake. I love the colors, since those were the colors of my high school alma mater. Just spoke to "Emma" and she is very happy as a Theta! A couple of girls from her Pi Chi group are Theta pledge class sisters, along with another girl from our hometown, and a girl she met at Camp War Eagle. There are 75 of them altogether!

TriDeltaSallie 08-14-2010 04:03 PM

Congratulations!

So happy for all the women who made it through the week and found their home. :)

And I'm happy for their parents who have lots of fun events to look forward to over the next three or four years. :)

Congratulations!

Curiouser and curiouser ... I just went to IU's website to see if they had Zeta (they don't) and they don't even have open houses until December and formal rush is in January. At first blush, it seems odd, but I can see some good points to this. As much as I would love for my older S, who starts his freshman year next week, to go Greek (his dad is a Pike), I'd really like for him to wait until next semester. His campus is about as non-competitive as they come, so it wouldn't make a difference one way or another.

TriDeltaSallie 08-14-2010 04:08 PM

Triplets?

Noticed this on the bid list. Wonder if they are triplets?

Caitlin Frenzer Chicago, IL Kappa Kappa Gamma
Beth Frenzer Chicago, IL Kappa Kappa Gamma
Meagan Frenzer Chicago, IL Sigma Kappa

This post has nothing to do with Fall 2010 Auburn Recruitment.

Since when have we let that stop us?

I counted 55 new SKs by my highly unofficial Ctrl+F method. Congrats to everyone involved.

That has to be an interesting dynamic, 2/3 going to one sorority. It makes you wonder what the "tent talk" was like. I'm sure that people were aware of triplets coming through from the beginning. (If they are identical, that is extremely rare!!) I wonder if they were legacies, or if not, if people thought that they were a "package deal" anyway. If they were in different rush groups, I'm sure girls were doing a double-take, trying to remember which one is which.

We had twins on campus, one went SK and the other SDT. People often seemed surprised that they went to different sororities, but as the (bio) sister of identical twins, I didn't see why they necessarily would.

AUmom2 08-14-2010 07:41 PM

One Last Post

I spoke to Stephanie before she left to be with her new sisters this afternoon. She was thrilled! She told me all about her temporary big sister, all the goodies she had given her (in great detail), how she's a baby turtle, and that she's changing her dorm colors (from black, white and pink) to black white, pink and green.

I'm sad to report that she kindly told me that now that recruitment was over, she thought we should start limiting our calls to once a day. :( I was sad for a moment...But, after pondering her words, I've decided to be happy that she's making friends and feels comfortable enough to cut me down to once a day.

On another note, my friend has twins going through sorority recruitment at different colleges. I believe one of them begins soon...she's going to Arkansas. I'm going to try to get her to begin posting updates. This was too much fun!

Thanks for all the encouragement and support. You are a sweet community!

Katmandu 08-14-2010 07:47 PM

^^^ Yes, I thought the triplet 2/3 split was interesting. Not surprising if they went all the same or all different, but the 2/3 is a different dynamic.

To all of the parents and rec writers of Auburn PNMs who posted on this thread..... Congrats to your girls, and congrats to you for your great attitudes!! It was such a pleasure to hear from interested, concerned, yet SANE parents. Your lovely daughters are in for a wonderful year!

Looks like my Auburn rec didn't get a bid . . .or dropped out. :(

IrishLake 08-14-2010 08:49 PM

Belle, I'm sorry to hear that :(

auburnmom09 08-14-2010 10:12 PM

Recruitment ended today but WELCOME WEEK just started today at 5:00 pm. Please encourage your girls to participate in the activities. The University really does a lot to make it a memorable event for incoming students and help them feel like part of the AUBURN Family. The WELCOME WEEK committee volunteers countless hours and stays in Auburn all summer to plan and organize this event. This year's event is going to be GREAT!

ADPiTigergurl 08-14-2010 10:17 PM

Ok sorry I'm still a tad confused on RFM... ok since quota was 57 (ish) and Theta (please note I only used this specific chapter as it has been mentioned as to the numbers of girls they took) took 75 members they had 18 quota additions. Correct? Ok question one when someone becomes a quota addition do they go to the group who had them highest on their bidlist, or do they immediately go to the chapter the pnm listed first. Also when one group takes that many quota additions or even just a few chapters taking one or two quota additions does this normally leave one or a few groups significantly under quota? Because to me it would seem if you took 100 pnms and divided them by 10 groups this would make quota 10. SO if one group took quota plus 7 would that leave one group (or several) under quota either by one or by 7? SO there is no way every group could be above quota, correct? OK sorry if this is a lot of questions or confusing in what I'm asking...I'm just trying to understand rfm a little better.

perfectinpurple 08-14-2010 10:28 PM

ADPiTigergurl: check out this thread http://www.greekchat.com/gcforums/sh...ad.php?t=22514

I feel like this is the 3rd or 4th time someone's asked about this during this week...

Oh well... hope this helps you out!
