I'm not a big Kris fan - he's good, but not my fave. I really like Danny, and Allison, though I didn't like her performance (or outfit) tonight. And Anoop...my friend...you may be going home after that performance. Just not good.

ASTalumna06 04-01-2009 01:15 AM

Please send Megan home. What the hell was she doing with her hands? And I agree with an earlier poster.. she sounds smug. And when she was talking afterward, her voice sounded whiney. I just don't like her.

And Kara... I'm glad you actually counted your words correctly tonight. But I think you meant to say Studio 54.. not Studio 57.

gee_ess 04-01-2009 08:49 AM

Paula is the one I wish would go home! She is getting more and more crazy each week. I don't know how the other members of the panel keep a straight face when she talks. Last night it felt like someone had written her critiques for her and she was trying to recite them for each contestant. Yikes!

I am rooting for Matt. He seems to have taken the position of underdog lately - just hasn't done well with song choice. But I really like him and think he is very talented.

Did anyone else think it was funny when an audience member yelled out, "Broken record" to Kara when she started second guessing song choices...again. She does seem to always second guess these people who are under much pressure to pick the best song. To come along and rattle off 4 or 5 alternatives (kind of comes across smug imo) while they stand there dying must get hard every week. But, she does give good criticisms for the most part.

WVU alpha phi 04-01-2009 09:58 AM

I voted for Anoop, Alyson, and Kris last night (Kris got the most votes from me). I just thought his performance was great and he seems like a genuinely nice guy, and is not getting a big head like I think some of the other contestants are (ahem MEGAN). I thought Danny's performance was good too.

I have to agree with nittanyalum that Adam was definitely not my favorite contestant, but he's growing on me every week (post Johnny Cash butchering). I think he has a lot of talent and I'm really glad he's toned down the eye makeup and bad hair.

Megan is just awful. That song was so boring, her voice is so reedy (the only word I can think of to describe it), and she's definitely getting by on her looks. I agree with previous posters about her smug comments "well I think my fans will like it." KICK HER OFF!!

srmom 04-01-2009 05:22 PM

Allison looked like an Oompa Loompa in that ugly purple triangle dress! If you changed her hair from that hideous shocking red to green, she could have been in the movie

Adam - Mick Jagger, Steven Tyler - Uhhh no. But, I do like him and think he might have a future.

Megan is hilariously bad, and she's starting to get the "Chicken Little" attitude with the judges - "Honey, the VFTW votes will only take you so far, and your "fans" (?) are only voting for you because you are the designated WORST (hate to tell you, that is not a compliment ;))"

Scott, thank you for getting a hair cut, but I still don't like your singing...

Anoop - WHAT HAPPENED? Not Good, and sassy to the judges - don't go that route!!

Matt - totally wrong choice of song, I'm afraid for him tonight!!

amanda6035 04-01-2009 09:51 PM

Didnt Lady GaGa play on the SYTYCD finale last year? If so - she didnt impress me then, and she didnt impress me now. Who the heck is she and what the hell was that? Have I been hiding under a rock because I dont understand what the rave is about her?

LeslieAGD 04-01-2009 09:54 PM

Amanda, I don't remember if she was on the SYTYCD finale, but she's been writing songs for a lot of top artists for the last few years (including Christina Aguilera and NKOTB and a bunch of others). I really like her song "Just Dance" but I don't get her bizarre style.

AHHHH, Just Dance. Okay, yeah, that's a cool song....I didnt know who sang it.

ComradesTrue 04-01-2009 09:58 PM

That performance was painful to watch last night, and is even more painful to watch now. That girl has no rhythm. None.

WinniBug 04-01-2009 10:20 PM

My lovely reliable DVR didn't record last night's AI.
Does anyone know where I can watch the full episode online??

Last year I was able to watch each performance (without the judges comments) on youtube, but I don't know about a place to watch the whole episode.

srmom 04-02-2009 09:57 AM

Yes she was on the SYTYCD finale last year, and I thought her performance last night was MUCH better than the other (but, just not my taste in music)

Yay!! Megan's gone!! So, who goes next week??

Okay, this is what I was looking for....I am out of town so I didn't get a chance to watch it last night....What was the theme this week?

nittanyalum 04-02-2009 10:35 AM

Had to watch it really late on my DVR last night ---- WOOHOO, thank god America got it right this week!!! And I agree, Blondie, that girl couldn't keep the beat if it was glued to her body.

I think next week, Allison or Anoop's tickets might get punched, even though Scott still sits high atop my "later!" list.

Next week is songs from the year they were born.

ASTalumna06 04-02-2009 12:52 PM

YAY! Megan's gone. So happy. Especially because she didn't really seem to care about the whole thing at all.

Top 40 hits - so it was really OPEN and begs the question of what the heck were some of them thinking in terms of song choice???

Woops - you meant next week!! Interesting to see what they'll pick from the 80's! I was a totall "new wave" chick in the early 80's so that would be fun (in a trainwreck kind of way) to see someone try a Blondie or B52's song!! haha - Love Shack??

We'll probably get a Pat Benatar which could be good. Don't know about the guys.

Not sure about the ages of all the contestants, but Allison will be picking something from the 90s :)

srmom 04-02-2009 05:27 PM

Wow! I forgot that many of them are babies!! That makes me feel so old :(

Thetagirl218 04-07-2009 09:51 PM

Scott and Lil need to go....I thought Lil was a cheap imitation of Tina Turner.... Don't even try walking like Tina....

I love tivo....and the fact that I can watch yummy Matt again and again!!! ;)

He was my favorite tonight!!! I also love "Part Time Lovers" by Stevie Wonder!!

Allison was amazing!

Danny was okay as was Adam....

One last thought....what was up with the time problem? They ended the show at 9:07? WTF!?!!!? Why they messing with my DVR!!!

WVU alpha phi 04-08-2009 12:02 PM

My DVR didn't record Adam's performance, so I missed out. I wonder how much that will affect his votes. It doesn't take a genuis to figure out what number contestant he is and still vote even if you missed his performance, but some people aren't too bright. :p

I thought Allison was great and Anoop redeemed himself. I'm a Kris Allen fan but his song choice was awful in my opinion (All She Wants to do is Dance).

I think the bottom three tonight will be Matt, Kris, and Scott.

srmom 04-08-2009 12:21 PM

WVU - you can see the performance on youtube. It is pretty amazing. I missed it last night too, guess I'll have to set the DVR to tape Fringe so it doesn't cut out again!

I checked on Dial Idol and Adam was still the #1 vote getter, so it doesn't seem like it's affecting him, BUT, if it had been Kris or Allison and they had been cut off before performing, I would call major FOUL if they were the lowest vote getter.

With more and more people DVRing shows, the networks need to be mindful of timing.

Also, could Paula just SHUT UP! Her rambling incoherent commentaries are really bugging me.

gee_ess 04-08-2009 12:36 PM

I just don't understand why the producers/directors of this show cannot figure out how to signal to these judges that they are going on too long with critiques. Adding the 4th judge has thrown a curveball in the show, and it's as if the show can't figure out what to do!

Several times in the last few weeks the last two contestants have had their critiques(read: facetime, fan time) cut short because someone, somewhere cannot get this show under control. It usually can be blamed on the Paula/Simon dynamic but no so much last night.

It is really frustrating as a fan - especially those who are tivo-ing the show, etc.

getting off my soapbox now...

PeppyGPhiB 04-08-2009 12:47 PM

The networks don't want people DVRing - DVRers don't watch commercials, which is what pays for the shows. I believe they're setting shows to go over intentionally.

sceniczip 04-08-2009 01:39 PM

Someone on the radio said they're also trying to cut into a rival show on another network. Not sure how accurate that is but I thought it was kind of amusing :D

I happen to think the same here.

gee_ess 04-08-2009 02:19 PM

I am not sure I believe the DVR conspiracy theory. IMO, dvr allows people to tune into more than one show - isn't viewership what they are after? And, chances are, I might end up watching a commercial or two (though, highly doubt it!). Besides, with the blatant product placements, we are not being deprived from influence. (off topic, but did anyone see the blatant State Farm promo in last week's Jon and Kate episode? It was so obvious, I laughed).

I thought about this, and that's why I've been intentionally setting my DVR to record at least 5 minutes extra. BF who used to work in master controls says that shows usually cannot go more than 5 minutes over because it effs up paid commercial space.

Definitely. And I'm sure I know who wanted him to stay.

The fact is, it was his time to go. Voting is starting to get more difficult, and I still like pretty much everyone that's left. I think that if a contestant has a bad performance one week, they can pretty much bet that they're going home (or at least they'll come very close).

The progressive (sarcasm) folks at Nielson have not yet figured out how to figure in DVR viewers. DVR views are not counted. The networks want you to watch the show live, because it's the only way they can sell advertisers on viewers. People DVR for two reasons: because they're not home/busy and so can't watch, or they prefer to watch another show at the same time. The latter is not a good way to win over advertisers either, and so the networks don't really have an incentive to know/care how many people are DVRing their shows. One of the major benefits of DVR is that you don't have to watch commercials; I have a DVR and I always FF through the ads. The networks started beginning and ending shows late so they could basically punish people for "cheating" and con them into tuning in live. Notice that this is an issue with a number of shows now...not just shows like AI. My evening news is scheduled to go until 11:35 every night.

Take AI for example. If the network wanted it to end on time, it's easily accomplished through editing. They didn't edit it to fit the allotted time, fourth judge or not. They end it at different times to keep you guessing...so you can't set your DVR for the same time every week.

WinniBug 04-09-2009 08:16 AM

I think it was time for Scott to go. He's not exactly up to par with the other singers.
I listened to his performance last night with my eyes closed, and he sounded really good until he tried to hit this one power note, then he kinda went all screechy.

I am disappointed in what some people think of as "jokes"
One guy in a MySpace group I'm in said "Ha, Scott sure didn't see that one coming"
Which I thought was ignorant and not at all humorous

summer_gphib 04-09-2009 08:22 AM

I was actually shocked that it wasn't Lil who went home (although I think the judges would have used their "save.") I'm not a fan of hers, I haven't seen anything remotely original about what she's been doing-- and her enunciation needs a lot of work.

WVU alpha phi 04-09-2009 09:54 AM

Very glad it was Scott who went home and not Anoop. I was really surprised only 30,000 votes separated the two. I just didn't see how Scott could fit into the American Idol persona. He could probably put out a Billy Joel-like album, but that's it. I don't see people lining up to get tickets to his concerts or him appealing to a mass audience.

I was going to be really disappointed if Lil Rounds was cut and the judges saved her. She was good in earlier rounds but has been continuously disappointing each week.

Agreed. He's pretty good, but not as good as the others who are left, IMO. It was his time. Though I will be interested to see the show from here on out - I agree with a PP because there is some real talent this season and if a great singer has an off week, it could very well be quits.

Did anyone else think Kellie Pickler's performance was awful? She kept doing a deer in headlights look with her eyes, and she just sounded terrible.

You're kidding, right? I didnt realize how much I liked that song until she sang it last night. I thought she was great.

No I was being dead serious lol. I love country and like Kellie Pickler, but my boyfriend and I both thought she sounded terrible. That also isn't my favorite song of hers though.
