I actually don't know what this thread's about. I've been responding about everything but the original post. LOL.

I'm just curious - how does nationals KNOW the "colour of hair" of the members of our mythical GLO? Is that really put on the membership form? Or are they looking at composites?

Maybe they have somebody do chapter visits every now and then.

PANTHERTEKE 08-13-2008 12:44 AM

Maybe they just take a look at the names on the member roster.

Let's say this is an Asian fraternity, there's a difference between Michael Jones and Hun Lo.

True. But even then it can take a while. It took Psi U a couple of years to realize that one of our chapters was initiating females.

Absolutely unheard of. Who would think you would do something like that? Crazy upside down world.

Thanks for joining me in this endeavor.

Maybe other members in the chapter were disgruntled and brought it to the NO.

Don't get me wrong, I love my national fraternity (because of my chapter, perhaps?) I love the ritual that my organization has, but my loyalty remains, and will continue to remain with my chapter.

That is a good way of explaining it. I think there are a lot of us that chose the chapter and not the national/international organization, especially as college freshmen making this kind of decision. Learning through the new member process about the national organization is what made me appreciate mine.

With APO, in the years prior to going co-ed, they would masculinize the names (Janet Lee becomes James Lee) or just go with first initials. And this was a very fast change relatively speaking, I don't think any of the chapters pledged women illegally prior to 1967 when we stopped requiring scouting background and by 1974, allowing women to be affiliate members was probably the only thing that kept the fraternity from tearing itself apart (women were allowed as full members in 1976, chapter option; 30 years later it was no longer chapter option)

i wonder what happened with the OP....
