It just sounds like them to me. Just does. POST A GUIDE AND TELL US WHO YOU 'REALLY' ARE! :p |
To everyone asking for a guide/real identity:
20something's first post states she is posting an ANONYMOUS thread. She never said that she would reveal the groups, on the board or in a PM, and to splash it all over the board at rush time (after revealing so many gory details) would be very unpanhellenic. Good details or names, kids. You can't have it both ways. :p |
I just want to say that this has easily become my favorite recruitment story.
|
I really hope that this year's PNMs are reading this thread. It has alot of very valuable advice and insight in it. Such as:
*Be mindful of your partying (especially if you're at a deferred recruitment school). *Don't be so quick to say where you "don't fit in" or "don't see yourself." The place you say you "don't see yourself" could end up being the place with the friends you will look back on and wonder how you ever got along without. *From year to year, things change at most schools. The "it" sorority one year, may not be the "it" sorority by your junior year. *It's not the end of the world if you and your friends don't all pledge the same chapter. |

Again, this was a great story and I thank you for posting it. |
I say don't tell us what your school is or who you are, but could you tell us just who Haley is?
|
Your style of writing makes me feel like I am just sitting in a cafe having a casual conversation with you! Great details, and easy to read. PLEASE, what chapter is Haley?!??!

There is no need to out the school or chapters. Through her brutal honesty, 20 has included many not-so-flattering details about all the chapters, including her own. Let this thread be what it was meant to be- an insight into the mind of an 18 year old learning to navigate the craziness of freshman year, a warning to all PNMs to monitor their behavior, and a wonderfully refreshing reminder that the house that we initially do not see ourselves in can be the best thing that ever happens to us. At the end of the day, what chapter Haley turned out to be is not the point of the thread. While many would love to celebrate with 20-something (and hope that perhaps she joined their org), leaving it ambiguous is a much more fitting ending. Thank you 20-something for writing what will no doubt be a well-read and oft-cited thread. (...and special thanks for accurate spelling and excellent grammar. Take note, kids.) |
Y'all, I ask you not to post the results of any sleuthing this year, either on this thread or any others. If you figure out a poster's school, especially if she's currently rushing, please let it go! You may not plan to harm her but there are people on GC who have actually interfered with posters' recruitments.

We can't have it both ways folks. If you want cookie-cutter, "I really liked ABC but wasn't feeling DEF" then fine. Sleuth your hearts out and don't complain when every story is in similar code. If you want real stories with real thoughts, emotions and details like this one--then enjoy it and leave the sleuthing off the boards. FYI to any PNM out there reading: I strongly recommend if you're posting on GC and considering recruitment then maintain your anonymity! You can post a recruitment story that is honest, detailed and respectful as long as you take care to remain anonymous. We'll respect you for doing so. |

I found this story interesting not just for 20S's recruitment experience but of the entire growing-up process that occurred while in college. Not many of us would be so blunt about changes in moral beliefs and behaviors. I think this thread is a good one for most rising freshman females even those attending nonGreek schools. College is different than high school. Suddenly you are responsible for your own actions.
20S is obviously a bright young woman and yet she made a couple of poor choices once in awhile, choices to which many of us can relate. Her self-analysis of her freshman year was very honest as well. However, as an adult, she may not want to identify herself as the freshman who did such-and-such. |
WOW... this was an amazing story. I definitely agree it is one for any college student, pnm or no, to read.
Snaps to you, 20something, for everything you accomplished through college - even though some of it came the hard way. :-) I'd love to know the guide but I agree that anonymity may be best in this case. Although I admit I'm dying to know who Haley is!! :-) |
This was a really great story!
Someone else start one now! |
