And personal responsibility takes a dive. |
My friend called me when he first heard about it, about 12:30 "Did you hear about the shooting??" The way he said it I thought it was in RI at first.
I'm in total shock. I got off the phone with him and mentioned it (I was at work, no TV, no computer besides for the bosses) and my main boss looked it u\p right away. Thoughts and prayers are with the victims, families of the victims, and those who still don't know if their family/friends/sisters & brothers, etc are safe. |

Goodness gracious.
I think each and everyone of us has anger about injustice. But most of us do not go around shooting random people who had absolutely nothing to do with the bad things that have happened to us. Alpha Phi Omega brothers have been accounted for. |
my prayers to the friends and family of those killed or hurt.

Again, it may not be mental illness at all, but I suppose nobody will know for quite sometime. This whole situation has me on the brink of tears and my heart broken. Nothing will ever excuse this, but the reason why may at least fill a void and provide an answer. |

Words of support from a non-GLO member
I would first like to offer my support to the VT community, especially to the friends and family of victims of the shootings. I would also like to suggest that if the shooter had been in a GLO - I've heard nothing to suggest he was - he would more than likely have received support and help through whatever difficult times he was going through, and - I'm just being truthful here - we may well have not seen the awful tragedy that unfolded today. That doesn't assuage grief, but it does give pause to know that the deep relationships that are made through families and social organizations can help us through our darkest moments. Thanks to all who have contributed so caringly here. That your hearts share in the grief of the VT community helps in the bearing of a sorrowful burden.

Clearly someone who does this has serious mental issues. But if video games are going to cause you to shoot someone, you've jumped off the sanity train long ago... |

On another note...I wonder what Jodi Picoult would have to say about this. Her latest book is about a school shooting and when she did the signing of her book at the local Border's she talked about school shootings a little. |

19 Minutes. It's on the New York Times Bestseller list. Number 1 I think. I read it. Good book. She really goes into detail and you honestly start to question everything. Your own thoughts and morals. You question why people are allowed to treat others this way. It's a good read but you really have to be in the right mindset to read it. With that being said, right now would probably not be the best time. In her story, the shooter survives and she goes into detail of the torment the person put up with. As a person it horrified me and as a teacher I was beyond appalled. And it was a book! But I highly recommend it. Awesome book.[/end mini-hijack] |

Mu Alpha chapter of Delta Sigma Theta is safe and unharmed.
Prayers to the campus and family of the Virginia Tech students, faculty, and staff. |
BTW, I can't remember if this was mentioned, but I looked it up for my sister. Tri Delta's members are all accounted for
