I am constantly amazed how we make a decision at 18 based on a whole bunch of superficial crap that works out to be a lifetime of friendship, fun, philanthropy, etc. It's too bad selling my sorority as such a great group as an alum would fall on utterly deaf ears to this year's group of PNM's. I'm laughing here thinking of how recruitment would be different if all done by 20 year alums.

Am I the only one who thinks this post is contradicting itself?

I don't think so. I had to read it 3 times.

I think she's saying that when she was young she had some reasons for joining that were superficial and silly. She did not think about the lifetime commitments, bonds, and other things that really make a sorority. If alum were running recruitment it would fall on deaf ears because the things that she learned upon graduating aren't what many PNMs are looking for/responding to.

Sorry to be confusing. And yes, it is a contradiction. My lifetime membership in Alpha Xi Delta is priceless to me, but that didn't enter into it in the least when I was going through Rush. I was laughing to myself picturing a bunch of old ladies talking to a bunch of 18 year olds about what is REALLY important about sorority life. Somehow I don't think that would go over so well...

I am an active Alumna of my Local sorority. I pay dues to the Alumni Association. All I'm doing officially right now is serving on a committee planning our upcoming anniversary. I try to make it to the bid nights/ Alumni Weekends, the big events. I haven't been out of school long, so I'm still close with many of the actives, so I serve as an informal advisor sometimes. They come to me with issues; I try to help them out of refer them to someone who can help them. It has really eased the pain of missing college! While I am still able to help out and share in the enjoyment of sisterhood, I also often witness examples of why I'm glad to have graduated :) I want to be able to do more, maybe try to serve on the Alumni Board once my life is more settled.

I am an active alum! Thankfully, while at law school, I have seen another Sorority member (a member of Delta Gamma) wear her letters pretty much every day. She is a 3L and it makes me happy to see women do that! I have seen AGDs, KKGs, AXiDs, PiPhis, ChiOs, DZs, SKs, Tri-Delts, and some Phi Mus (yay) at my law school. When I see them rockin' letters-it is great cause I don't feel so bad wanting more.

I just got our sorority catalog and I am psyched about the Vera shirts! I plan on buying some and wearing them. I am currently VP of the Columbus Chapter. I worked as the Treasurer for the Syracuse Chapter. I also served as Secretary of the South Central Pennsylvania Chapter. I made it to last year's convention and plan on making it to this upcoming convention in July!

I love being an alum!!!

So many updates I have to just start over! :)

As an alumna in the past I have served as: Scholarship Advisor (EKU), Permanent Alumnae Secretary (Hanover), alumnae chapter corresponding secretary & college chapter liason (Lexington), Facility Corp. Board Secretary & President (EKU), Facility Corp. Board member (UK). I am formerly a member of Lexington Alumnae Chapter, and still have some associations with the Louisville Alumnae Chapter. I have donated items to our Fraternity archives.

Currently: I am a Life Loyal member, Recruitment/Membership/Panhellenic Advisor (EKU), and Alumnae Chapter President (Richmond, KY). I recently started an alumnae chapter in Richmond, the same city as EKU to directly support my chapter and to network with other alumnae as this is an area that my chapter has struggled with for quite a while. We were officially chartered with 27 members on April 1st, my birthday!! I am also a regular/yearly contributor to our foundation.

In the future (5-7 year plan) I HOPE to get an Alumnae Panhellenic group started in Lexington if one has not been formed by that time. We have atleast 18 NPC groups represented in this area if not more.

Good work! The Alum Panhell group is a good idea. 18 groups in the area gives you a lot of people to work with to get some things done. In Balto, we give out two scholarships every year for $1000 and $500. I wish they would make some changes so that we could increase those amounts, but it's a tradition that has lasted for over 50 years.

I was, then I wasn't and now I am. When I moved and knew very few people, the Alumnae Chapter was an obvious way to meet people. I'm now VP of the Alumnae Chapter, attend events with the local collegiate goup and am a Pearl Sister which is sort of an alumnae big-sis to a colony new member.

As an alum group, we raise money for the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation and scholarship prizes for the collegians. It must be working as over 1/2 of the local chapter had girls on the Dean's List for Fall Semester and the overall GPA was over 3.5.

Yep, still involved. Just started my 2nd term with the The Triangle. It's right up my alley as I interned at a university publication in undergrad and although I have since gone into the human services/mental health field, I still enjoy doing some publications-related things.

I am also involved in an alumnae club as the Yahoo groups coordinator and usually hostess one meeting each year in addition to participating in all the philanthropies and attending as many meetings as I can.

I pay alumnae dues to the International Fraternity and social dues to my alumnae club. I contribute to the Alpha Gamma Delta Foundation.

I wear the Arc of epsilon pi with diamond, an honor given to alumnae for years of consecutive, faithful and outstanding service.

Yep, I'm active.

I will update. We changed our volunteer structure. I'm still an Area Coordinator, but now it is for 10 collegiate chapters and 10 alumnae chapters/clubs.

I was also awarded the Arc of Epsilon Pi with Diamonds at our 2006 Convention.

The rest is all still the same, although I've been serving on numerous committees and task forces since this post, including Elections Committee and three task forces which are working on changes to various policies/handbooks, etc.
