I'm new but have some random-ness!
Starting new semester of grad school (CU Denver) with 3 classes. Am I insane? PLUS, I have a 3 year old, a husband of almost 10 years!, and 3 cats. And I have a job which I love. However, said job just got more insane. I'm a High School language arts teacher who just got thrown into the Special Ed coordinator position, since our previous SpEd teacher gave 4 days notice over break and just left. Nothing like taking your first SpEd class for your MA and getting told to learn on the job. |
I have been really quiet on GC lately and wanted to give my sisters an update!
I have finish school, now in externship ... I will be starting my business now and also I am restarting making my soaps and candles... 2009 will be a great year! |
Wow that does sound busy, Cricketbug!
Things are going well in Scotland. I had my viva (thesis defense) in January, and passed with minor corrections. :) It lasted less than an hour, and they told me straight off that I had it (which is apparently rare). So I suppose I did something right. ;) I'm tutoring and lecturing still, and looking for proper jobs for next year. I'm also dancing a lot (still) and have been cast in the lead female role in a new Irish dance show which will premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival this August. Exciting times! Hoping all is well with everyone else. Sigma Love and Mine, Laura |
Just finishing up year 2 of grad school. YAY.
|
It is SUPER quiet around here lately, but HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY LADIES!
Any plans? |
Postive: I continued my move today into the phenomenal city of Philadelphia. Negative: I am also continuing my job search...oh the joys of this economy!
|
Boo on the job search! I know many from last year that are still struggling to find jobs right now. It's seriously scary...but I'm happy you're all set with your move, Randi!
As for me, I just moved to Baton Rouge last week! I'll be starting as a GA for LSU Orientation next Monday and I'm really excited! |
Tomorrow the kids who were sophomores in HS when I was a senior will graduate, and I feel extremely old. On a funny note, the 7-10 year old girls at work told me I looked like I was 16, 12, or 20. How that works, I have no clue.

Hope you guys don't mind a crash from a KD, but here's a cute find for any collector of old books and/or sorority antiquities:
http://cgi.ebay.com/1938-Social-Precedents-Sorority-Ethics-Booklet_W0QQitemZ220427773311QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH _DefaultDomain_0?hash=item335284e57f&_trksid=p3286 .c0.m14&_trkparms=65%3A12|66%3A2|39%3A1|72%3A570|2 40%3A1318|301%3A0|293%3A3|294%3A50 It's a college etiquette guide from the 1930s. I'm tempted by it, but it would be even better for an ASA or Tri-Sigma. |
That's really cool, Shellfish!
My random: I finally scored an interview... it's part-time, but I can certainly use the structure and cash. Woohoo! |
ShyViolet's Graduation Photos!
So these have been awhile in coming - but here they are. Photos from my PhD graduation. :) I now have a piece of paper that says I'm clever and fancy academic regalia to show for my three year's work (plus a two volume thesis). Graduation was fun as there were four of us from the department getting our PhDs, but busy and a bit stressful trying to keep everyone happy and entertained, as well as trying to enjoy myself. :p
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1360.jpg This is me at the castle - chilling in the ruins. Graduates got in free if they were wearing gowns (students get in free in their undergrad or graduate gowns). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1369.jpg Much silliness ensued in the castle... Like this and... http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1372.jpg This! I think everyone has to have one of these obligatory, let's wear the "hood like an actual hood" photos. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1374.jpg Nice one for the family (I still haven't sent graduation announcements - now they're post-graduation updates... Oops). http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...K/101_1390.jpg Jumping over the PH cobbles. I stepped on them for the first time when I landed - it was weird! (Students daren't step on them for fear of being cursed by Patrick Hamilton, who was burnt at the stake as the first martyr of the Scottish Reformation on that very spot. Apparently, he'll make you fail your degree, so tradition has it that when you finish, you go jump on the letters). Enjoy! Hope everyone else is having a good summer and to those in grad school: there is light at the end of the tunnel. ;) Sigma Love and Mine, Laura |
Congratulations, Dr. ShyViolet!

so my random updates...
i found another job (i think) and am very excited about having structure in my life again. in preparation my mom and i went on a little shopping spree as my last job had me working from home. this does not leave you with a lot of clothes to wear to work when your daily uniform was pajama pants and t-shirts. update #2, my husband's music can now be found on itunes. i'm so proud of all the work he puts into this as he does have a "day job" as an engineer that keeps him busy. if you want to look it up search "stolen rhodes". update #3, i finally met a sigma i have been talking to for over a year via facebook. she is wonderful! i got to perform circle degree for her. this makes her the first woman i was able to do that for. hopefully there will be many more. xoxo <---can't wait for gossip girl to come back! violets oops...p.s...CONGRATULATIONS SHY VIOLET! That is a huge accomplishment. |
mmmm....lets see some random things for me...
