I agree with the above posters. I thought fraternity men, especially fraternity men from Erik's time period were taught to be gentlemen! Calling posters "losers" and "hoggers" does not a gentleman make.

Co-signing on what everyone else has to say and still not believing that no one seems to be disturbed by the whole "ax me" crap.

ETA: Found. Wow. Happy MLK Day to you, Erik. It never fails to amaze me to see someone talking about their education, then showing their ignorance 2 lines later. |

As I stated before, I don't think there is an overage of "angry women" on GC. Just ones that were raised not to take crap when men who can't write english insult their intelligence. |
Re: Re: Sig Ep, sorry
Its probably equally belittling to say that Erik should behave in a certain way based on your expectations of how someone with a certain chronological age should behave.
It would be like sying you couldn't believe single women over 35 that go out and party don't won't to settle down and have kids. I am not defending erik. I don't know who started it here or elsewhere, but there is enough hostility all around to make it hard to debate topics. Also, always remember: Just because you don't like someone doesn't mean they are not right. And vice versa. Quote:

Ah, James, once again you make common sense as usual!
Nice Post By The By!:) Wish I could have said it so well!:) Wish I could be more like you! "Ah, To Be Or Not To Be":D Dat Be Da Question or what ever!?! |
Enough is enough
Look, all the squabblers really need to take this garbage to another forum or PM each other. I am really enjoying the posts about Bob Jones University and I don't want the mods to close this thread on account of some silly s[no]t.
Essentially, if you have nothing to add to this thread regarding Bob Jones University, I (and other GCers) would appreciate it if you refrain from making any further personal attacks in this thread. Mods, can you delete the off-topic posts, but please don't lock the thread? |
Yeah, I was enjoying the discussion we were having until it turned 3rd grade (and please, no comments about "if so-and-so hadn't said what he/she said, I wouldn't have written what I wrote....")
I'll repeat my earlier question to try to get things back on track. Why does BJU put such an emphasis on women looking "feminine". How is that in keeping with fundamentalist Christian ideals (not saying it is or it isn't - I'm just curious for input). |
this thread should actually be moved to somewhere in chit chat, as it hasn't really been focused on discussing their version of greek life, more the culture of the campus and their rules.

thanks, Rain Man
thank you for your intervention and sage advice. I think we have
run the gamut here. Again, thanks. |

In the admission booklet, that naraht posted a link to, there is a section on how to join one of the societies. The booklet advises students to go to rush week and then write down the name of the society they wish to join on the last day. So, it looks to me like the societies don't get to choose their members - that is, they have to let in anyone who chooses them. With that in mind..... Quote:
.....Kelly :) |
I'm sure the rules allow them to join, but perhaps they get glares or nobody talks to them.

And as far as the question about femininity being fundamentalist. In the Bible (somewhere, I'm not sure where) it says that a woman should be submissive to a man. I think a skirt is the way to show that submissiveness, but I may be wrong. I do find it interesting that on the website there are pictures of girls in t-shirts and jeans, though. |
